She stuck out her tongue playfully.

Huang Xiaojue burst into laughter, took her hand, and pushed open the door, leading her inside.

Huang Xiaojue’s mother came forward to welcome them. Seeing the large pile of gifts, she said, "Xixi, just coming to visit is enough. You don’t need to buy such expensive things in the future." Despite her words, she looked particularly pleased with the set of skincare products. "I’ve heard people say this brand is excellent. An old lady in my mahjong group has been using it, and she looks so much younger. I’ve always wanted to try it, but when I thought about my age, I couldn’t bring myself to buy it."

"Auntie, in that case, I’ll keep buying them for you from now on."

"Silly child, let me just try it. Don’t buy any more. At my age, no matter how good the products are, I can’t exactly bloom like a flower again."

Huang Xiaojue grinned. "Mom, don’t be so polite with Xixi. From now on, Xixi will take care of all your skincare products."

Yan Xixi readily agreed. "Then it’s settled! From now on, Auntie, I’ll cover all your skincare products."

The table was laden with an abundant spread of dishes. Huang Xiaojue’s parents’ attitude was impeccable. Perhaps because the day had started well, Yan Xixi felt much more at ease than the last time. During the meal, Huang Xiaojue told a few jokes, further enlivening the atmosphere.

After dinner, the family sat around drinking tea and eating fruit. Huang Xiaojue then brought out a large pile of gifts. "Dad, Mom, these are for you. Xixi, this is for you."

The three gifts were of equal value, showing no favoritism. Even Huang Xiaojue’s father silently praised his son for becoming more thoughtful and understanding the art of balance. As expected, both his mother and Yan Xixi were very pleased.

His mother chided playfully, "Son, why do you always buy gifts? You’re so busy. You don’t even have time to rest properly."

"It’s no trouble at all. Besides, isn’t it only natural that I buy gifts for you?"

His mother looked at her son, then at Yan Xixi, before finally saying, "We invited you both home for dinner tonight because there’s something we need to discuss with you. Your father and I feel that you and Xixi are no longer young, and it’s time to consider the important matter of marriage. I wouldn’t have rushed you like this in the past. However, recently, I’ve noticed that more and more people are struggling with infertility after turning thirty. It’s especially difficult for women to have children. Therefore, we hope you two will get married soon. This major life event has to be completed sooner or later, and it’s better to do it sooner rather than later."

Huang Xiaojue looked at Yan Xixi with a smile in his eyes, while Yan Xixi was unsure what to say.

"Xiaojue has already bought a house, and after the New Year, he’ll be busy with renovations. You don’t need to worry about that part; your father and I will naturally oversee it for you. We’ve already contacted the renovation company. All you two need to do is discuss and decide on a wedding date."

His father also nodded. "You can leave the renovation and banquet arrangements to us." 𝙛𝒓𝓮𝒆𝔀𝒆𝙗𝓷𝒐𝙫𝒆𝙡.𝒄𝓸𝓶

Huang Xiaojue looked at Yan Xixi. "Xixi, what are your thoughts?"

Since they had put it that way, Yan Xixi truly had no reason to object. She simply replied softly, "Xiaojue, you can decide."

Hearing this, his father realized there were no issues. He smiled and said, "Xixi, now that we’re practically family, I’ll speak frankly."

"Uncle, please go ahead. Don’t be formal."

"It’s like this: according to local customs, the bride’s parents are usually given a betrothal gift. However, since your parents are no longer with us, we’ll skip the formalities of the betrothal gifts."

Yan Xixi nodded lightly.

"Xiaojue has done well for himself; he bought the marital home on his own. Following convention, he added your name to the deed, and as his parents, we have no objections to that."
