Chapter 519: How Did You Persuade Him?

Meanwhile...

"So, they already chose who’s going on the mission, huh?" one of the guards in the family wing said, breaking the silence with his dragging voice. He leaned back, hands shoved into his pockets, mind drifting somewhere else.

"They really just chose those in the Inner Circle," he muttered, unsure how to feel about it.

The men around him glanced his way until one finally asked, "Did you submit your form?"

"Yeah," he replied with a sigh. "I did."

But of course, he wasn’t chosen. Even though the weakest team in the Order was already too numb to be bothered by the label — too numb from all the mockery from other groups and even their own circle — being rejected still left an unpleasant sting.

"Just think, not all of them will come back alive," one of them joked, though the attempt at comfort failed miserably.

Missions were always risky and dangerous. But that didn’t stop them. They had pride and egos that needed proving too.

"From what I heard, Haji is joining this mission," another remarked. "I saw him earlier with Sir Allen. Good for him. At least he finally has something better to do than beat the training dummy every day."

The others nodded. Strange as Haji was, they were genuinely glad he could finally contribute. If he wasn’t lying about being bored, then surely, going to Ravah Territory would be good for him.

"Did you guys send your forms?" one asked curiously. "It’s better to know I’m not the only one who wasn’t chosen."

A few raised their hands and replied together, "I did."

"That makes me feel better," the first speaker laughed, earning grunts and eye-rolls from the others.

Their attention soon drifted to the corner where Izu stood, watching the twins and their cats.

"Hey," one guard leaned in, whispering while still staring at their captain, "do you think the captain requested to join the mission?"

They all paused. Silence stretched until one of them shook his head.

"I doubt it," he said. "Even though the captain trains the hardest, I feel like he’s stopped signing up for missions unless the Master orders him directly."

They all let out a collective sigh, worried for Izu.

Age didn’t matter in the Order — rank and ability did. So even if some of them were older, they respected Izu as their newly appointed captain. That respect wasn’t just because of his title, but because he earned it through sheer resilience — even before his promotion back in Novera thanks to Lola.

"I’m getting a little worried about him," someone sighed. "He used to be so motivated. So ambitious."

"Man... after doing everything to rise in the Inner Circle and still falling short, I’d be demotivated too."

They shook their heads and changed the subject. This was somehow more depressing than not being chosen for the mission.

At the same time, Izu stood beside the children like a stiff scarecrow. His eyes were on the twins and the "house pets," but his mind drifted far off. Last night, he had thought about submitting his form.

But in the end, he crumpled the paper and tossed it into the bin.

Considering Allen only chose from the Inner Circle, he knew he wasn’t qualified. Better to save himself the humiliation.

Even so... a small part of him still ached with regret.

"Uncle Izu?"

Chacha’s voice snapped him back to reality. He blinked, turning his head toward the little girl and Second, both staring curiously at him.

"What are you doing here?" She asked, head tilting adorably, eyes shining with innocent curiosity.

Izu pressed his lips into a thin line. "I was told to look after the Young Miss and Young Master by Sir Slater."

"Oh..." Chacha formed her lips into an "o" shape, still observing him like a puzzle. Second also stared intensely.

Feeling the pressure of their stares, Izu assumed they wanted space.

"It’s almost time for your snacks," he said with a bow. "I’ll be back."

He promptly walked away with the excuse of retrieving food. In truth, he simply wanted to step away, but he intended to remain close. These two were magnets for trouble, after all.

The twins watched him leave, worry forming between their brows.

"Uncle Izu is going to get scolded," Second muttered with concern. "He should be working with Mommy, not getting our snacks."

Chacha pouted and absentmindedly tried to shove a treat into Renny’s mouth, but the cat refused.

"Maybe we should sign Uncle Izu up for an ultramarathon next," she suggested.

Anyone else would question how her mind connected those thoughts. But Second simply nodded in solemn contemplation.

He looked at his sister. "Chacha, adults are complicated. When we become adults, let’s not be complicated."

"Mhm!" she hummed, smiling brightly. "I want to be as simple as Mommy."

"Mommy is a simpleton," Second agreed with a firm nod. "I want to be like her too."

And as they aspired to be just as "simple" as their mother... the latter suddenly sneezed in the distance and suspected someone was talking badly about her.

Poor Silo was the first on her interrogation list — unaware it was actually her own children.

"Achoo!" Lola covered her mouth with the back of her hand, shaking her head as she sneezed a second time.

Atlas handed her a handkerchief, which she quickly snatched without hesitation. "That damn Silo is probably talking bad about me," she grumbled as she wiped her mouth.

The meeting had just ended, and everyone was leaving the room. As Lola finished wiping her hand, she noticed Allen approaching.

"Sir?" Allen called, leaning close to Atlas to quietly relay something.

Atlas nodded, then turned his eyes back to his wife. But before he could speak, Lola beat him to it.

"Something important?" she asked with a smirk. "It’s alright. Don’t mind me. I have to meet Haji, anyway."

"I’ll go to you later," Atlas replied.

"Mhm."

With that, Atlas stepped out of the room, Allen trailing behind him. Before leaving completely, Allen glanced back and gave Lola a respectful bow before disappearing through the doors.

As soon as Allen was out of sight, Haji strolled in. 𝗳𝐫𝚎𝗲𝚠𝚎𝗯𝕟𝐨𝘃𝚎𝗹.𝗰𝗼𝗺

"Say," Haji started bluntly, "how did you convince your husband to let you join this mission?"

He didn’t beat around the bush because he needed answers. This was nothing short of a miracle, after all.

Lola raised a brow and let the silence linger for a moment, tongue pressing against her cheek before the corners of her mouth curled into a sly smirk.

"The ultimate move," she murmured, earning a confused "Huh?" from him.

With eyes narrowing, she giggled. "I persuaded him, Haji. And I just discovered there’s a very, very effective way to persuade my husband."
