The Alpha's Omega Mate-Chapter 50: A replay of the past.
~Dahlia’s POV~
"Beta..."
"Dahlia, think about it." Beta Orion said quickly, interrupting me as he plucked my hands into his. "Marry me and become Luna. Like this, you’ll rule alongside me and no one... not even Jennifer will trample on you anymore."
But wasn’t that the same thing he must’ve promised Ms Jennifer?
I frowned. "But Ms Jennifer... She’s meant to be Luna, Alpha Zarek deemed it so. If you’re to be Alpha, then she’s supposed to be your Luna."
At the mention of Ms Jennifer’s name, Beta Orion waved his hands dismissively in my face. He quickly let go of my hands as he took a few steps backward. But his eyes never left my face as he began prancing around the room.
"Between Jennifer and I, there’s only friendship. No love."
’There’s no love between you and I too,’ I wanted to say to him but I held my tongue, deciding instead to let him do all the talking while I listened, even though that meant giving him the permission to sign away my freedom like it was his to take.
"She cannot be with me. She knows that. I have always known that."
"But she doesn’t know that. And she in fact, sounds like she’s willing to be with you and not Alpha Zarek."
He paused, his eyes calculating and then he stopped prancing about to come sit beside me. Again, he held my hands in his and stared so deep into my eyes, I was sure he could see into my soul. The way he did it made me somewhat uncomfortable and I looked away as a faint blush colored my cheeks.
"Do not worry about her, I’ll take care of her... but first, agree that you’ll marry me. That’s all that matters now."
"What about the Elders? What if she—"
"Will you, Dahlia?" He snapped impatiently, interrupting me for what seemed like the nth time. I flinched in shock, both at the tone of his voice and how his hands tightened significantly around mine, but just as I opened my mouth— ready to tell him no— a rasp knock on the door snapped us both from our reverie.
I jumped in surprise just as Beta Orion pulled away from me and swiftly rose to his feet, whilst gathering his emerald cloak around his large frame like a shield. He snarled at the intruder; "COME IN!"
Just then, a young boy clearly not above nineteen draped in a worn gray tunic and shorts rushed into the room. He stole a glance at me then at Beta Orion before dropping his head quickly.
He muttered; "There are some women by the gates. They say they need to see you right now and that it is very urgent."
My gaze snapped up at the sound of his voice just in time to see Beta Orion frowning. He asked; "What do they want?"
"Justice." The young boy answered quickly. "Or not, I do not know."
My breath caught in my throat and my hands soon became clammy with sweat as I watched the exchange, not missing the way the boy fidgeted uncontrollably. Something was definitely up.
"Nadine, a young girl of about sixteen was raped by Patrick, the blacksmith."
"Then take Patrick to the dungeons first! The council of elders and I would decide what to do with him after he’s been tried!" Beta Orion snapped, the veins by the sides of his neck popping as he glared at the young boy.
The boy flinched, his eyes still downcast. "That’s the problem Beta, the man cannot be taken into custody because he is dead. He was found in his vegetable garden early this morning, shortly after he raped Nadine, but his body had turned to stone. His eyes were bloodshot and there was blood..."
"...leaking out from his eyes, nose, ears and mouth." I completed, my blood running cold.
The boy nodded frantically.
"Nyx’Zariel." This time, it was Beta Orion who spoke and at the sound of his voice, a shudder ran up my spine. "She seems to have awoken this time with nothing but vengeance in mind." He added but no one responded.
Not me that couldn’t shake away the feeling of dread from my bones. And certainly not the young boy who looked like he was about to faint.
Beta Orion turned to me. "We’ll continue our conversation later, Dahlia. This is important!" He said, and with that, he rushed out of the room with the boy following closely behind him.
Call me crazy but I was glad that this distraction happened— even though it meant someone’s death.
I let out a sigh of relief as I quickly rushed to my feet, groaning when a sharp pain hit my midriff with so much force, I nearly doubled over. My vision blurred and cleared just in time for me to catch a whiff of my scent.
My eyes widened.
Heat.
That motherfucking bastard was on its way.
Hades!
—
I gritted my teeth as I made my way through the busy streets to the palace, and thank goodness that everyone was too bothered about Nyx’Zariel’s newest kill to worry about the strange smell emanating from me.
On my way back, I spotted a traditional shop, and hoping that they would have some heat suppressants, I dropped by. Thankfully they did have it and I didn’t even bother to get home before popping some into my mouth.
I gagged. The dark liquid tasted vile. Bitter. It tasted like something that had been plucked right out of Poseidon’s butt crack and I frowned as it went down my throat in anything but flourish.
Afterwards, I literally ran all the way back to the house, whilst hoping that Madame Berlin wouldn’t be so cross by the time I arrived; but I was wrong.
She was enraged.
If there was a word beyond enraged then that was exactly what she was. Her usually creamy face was now red with rage and her hands were balled into tight fists by the sides of her skirts as she glared down at me from the top of the stairs.
She bellowed; "Where have you been?!"
I dropped my head as I whispered. "I went to the market to get some heat suppressants. My heat just started and I cannot afford to go around the house smelling—"
"No one cares!" She yelled, causing me to bite back the rest of my words. "None of the men would be drawn to ’you’ Dahlia Sinclair even if you smell like the moon goddess’ bosom! Now get to work!"
I flinched as traitorous tears slipped into my eyes. "But I do not have any chores remaining for the day. I’ve done all of them!" I cried back, my voice shaking for absolutely no reason.
Madame Berlin flashed me a dark smile. Her electric blue eyes ran up my body in disgust before she snapped; "The Alpha is awake and cranky! No one’s willing to serve his lunch... Go and do that!"
I froze.
"No!"
"If you don’t do it, I’ll tell everyone you refused to serve the Alpha," she snapped. "Let’s see what they’ll say about you when that happens!"
As the words tumbled out of her mouth, my rage grew. It bloomed until all I could see... until all I could breathe in and out was a steaming red rage.
And for some reason, all of this felt familiar. This scenario felt like what I’ve lived in before... what I’ve walked in before. A time that I hated with a fiery passion.
And I shuddered when it struck me. It was almost the same event as the night I lost my virginity. The night Amara was conceived.
I facepalmed myself and rolled my eyes before mumbling a half-meant; "Yes ma’am!" to Madame Berlin who smiled mischievously.
She was definitely up to something!
