Chapter 176: Rage, jealousy... and a hint of danger.

~Unknown POV~

Jennifer pressed herself against the cold wooden door, fuming because no matter how hard she banged on it, Zarek wouldn’t open up. He didn’t even speak to her nor complain about the nuisance she was causing, and that irked her.

Her eyes squeezed shut in a blinding rage that bubbled up her chest. She cursed loudly whilst pounding her fists hard on the door, without having a care in the world if anyone saw her like this.

She spat; "Damn you Zarek! Dahlia’s been gone for weeks! She’s probably even dead now and you still won’t touch me? Huh? For how long do you intend to mourn the wench?!"

"You know what? I’m glad she’s gone! I’m glad she finally mustered the decency to leave knowing fully well that no one likes her here! But do you want to know what I wish for the most? That she’s dead! That wherever she is, she’s dead and gone!"

Right now, it was more of her rage and less of her common sense talking, but that didn’t mean she didn’t mean the words she said.

Hell, she meant them more than the prayers she usually said to the moon goddess every morning.

She meant it when she said she was happy... beyond happy that Dahlia was finally out of her hair and this pack, and she prayed to the oracle that she would be out of this world as well.

As if on impulse, she lifted her hand to bang on the door one more time but as soon as she moved, the door was shoved open and a shirtless Zarek stepped out, his eyes wild and unreadable, a forlorn frown tugging at the corners of his lips.

He growled; "What did you say?"

At first, Jennifer was stunned. She blinked up at Zarek in surprise, but no words could slip out of her mouth due to how breathtakingly handsome he looked.

He stood tall, crowding the doorway with his naked chest and silk pants that hung so low she could see the V line of his waist. And even though she’s seen it all before, she cannot help but marvel at it... especially since she could see the faint outline of his manhood straining against his pants.

Hell, he wasn’t hard right now— he never was around her but he was still huge, and that made her gulp in anticipation, heat flaring to her face.

Gosh he was handsome. So so handsome. Even the dim light coming from behind him made him appear ethereal, and good gracious, she could smell the masculinity oozing off of him in waves.

Fuck, he made her panties wet without even trying. Hell, even his frown did more things to her than any male escort ever could.

And yeah... tons of male escorts have trieeeeeed.

When she still wouldn’t speak, Zarek moved closer to her, but that small action sent his deep peculiar masculine cologne floating into her nostrils.

She took in a deep breath, moaning helplessly as she leaned closer to him but he quickly moved away as if repelled by her.

"What did you say? What did you say about Dahlia?"

Of course it had to be about Dahlia!

The wantonness sizzling through Jennifer’s blood died down instantly, and in the place where desire once ran rampant, anger flared now. She bit back; "I don’t know exactly what I said to catch your attention but I remember calling her a wench which she is!"

"Shut up!"

"And I said I am glad that she’s finally out of here! I hope she’s out of the world too! Her and her stupid leech of a daughter!" She growled, and that was it.

That was the highest Zarek could take.

In blind rage, he wrapped his fingers around her throat, slowly lifting her up until her feet began to dangle in the air. A choked gasp escaped her lips before panic began to set in.

"I told you to shut. The. Fuck. Up!"

She scratched and scratched at his hands, kicking frantically at him to make him budge, but he didn’t. If anything, his grip became tighter. All the blood drained from her face.

"Z-Zarek please-e!" She cried, her voice hoarse; her throat felt sore. "L-let me g-go!"

"Take that shit you said about Dahlia back!" He growled in her face and she flinched momentarily before turning to face him.

So all this was because of Dahlia... he could even go to these lengths just to protect her.

The thought hurt her more than she cared to admit, but despite the rage burning through her and the anger stretching her insides taut, she managed to wear on the most pitiful look she could come up with, and with her voice breaking— which was not an act— she muttered; "I take it b-back."

Zarek frowned, his fingers flexed on her neck but still he didn’t let go.

"I T-take back everything I-I said about Dahlia-a. She’s not a w-wench. I do not hope she dies." As the lies slipped past her lips, they tasted like bile on her tongue.

She bit down against the urge to throw up, her eyes fixated on Zarek’s as she whispered; "There! I’ve taken it back. Let me go now."

Zarek seemed reluctant but when he finally let his fingers around her neck drop, she heaved out a relieved sigh, taking in a greedy amount of air into her lungs. She also didn’t fail to notice how he quickly took a step back too as if she burned. As if he couldn’t stand her.

She bristled.

But now, she no longer felt horny. She no longer wanted this monster to touch her. If anything, she’d rather Pius, her cousin, pin her against his bed and ravage her like a beast— the way he usually does whenever he is sex starved than let Zarek lay a finger on her.

Huffing, she picked up her discarded properties, turned around and stormed away from him, all the while cursing him for touching her... all the while hating him for not loving her even half the way he obviously loved Dahlia.

"I do not know where you are but I hope you’re dead." Jennifer cursed Dahlia under her breath.

"I really pray you’re dead because if I find you myself, I’ll kill you, and I’ll feed your corpse to the vultures and make your sweet dearest, Zarek, watch while you get devoured! You just wait!"

Orion watched the exchange between Jennifer and Zarek quietly, his pulse racing because for some reason, something about Zarek felt off.

And it wasn’t because he’d shunned Jennifer so blatantly— hell, he does that all the time.

However, what stood out to him was the maniacal way in which he handled things now. The way he’d spoken to him just moments ago at the training field... and the way he would’ve hurt Jennifer if she hadn’t given that half-assed apology.

Zarek was slowly going feral.

Orion wasn’t sure, but he suspected it... and he suspected that his sudden ferociousness had something to do with Dahlia’s disappearance.

— the same Dahlia who was safe and sound in Kai’s pack.

For the first time in forever, Orion felt this inexplicable rage towards Dahlia. Damn, he understood her reasons for leaving... he also understood why she’d kept her whereabouts a secret, but seeing Zarek like this... seeing him lose his mind over her and tethering on the edge of madness stirred something within his chest.

He would talk to her.

He would let her know what her disappearance was doing to him...

Orion however was soon snapped out of his thoughts when a sassy voice seeped into his train of thoughts. He blinked, surprised when he saw Jennifer standing before him, her hands planted on her waist as she glared at him.

"I haven’t seen you in a while..." she drawled. No preamble, no nothing. "And I heard that there’s a woman in your manor now. Who is she?"

Orion frowned when he heard her words, and for a very brief moment, he stood frozen, his eyes widening as he took her in, wondering if that was jealousy he heard in her voice... wondering what rights she had to be jealous when she’d only just been in Zarek’s room minutes ago.

Her flimsy clothes made Orion uncomfortable and he looked away, gulping. "Yeah, there’s a woman in my manor... my wife."

Jennifer’s face darkened at the mention of the word ’wife’ but before she could say another word, Orion quickly continued; "she’s Tiffany’s mother... and yes, there’s a lot you do not know, but we’re back together now."

Jennifer’s eyes flashed with something so dark, Orion had no choice but to take a small step back in surprise.

She let out a screeching scream as she lunged at him, cursing under her breath, but before her blow could land, she staggered to the floor, her eyes widening as she looked up at Orion in surprise, who in turn turned to the woman now standing beside him.

"Elodie...?" He drawled softly, his voice soft. "I didn’t hear you coming. What are you... why are you—"

"I disappear for a few years and you already have a long line of women already waiting on you?" She snickered, her voice dripping with sarcasm.

"No, that’s not... Jennifer isn’t—" he began to explain but ended up stuttering most of the time.

Elodie cast him a sideways glance, her lips tugging downward into a sneer, and then she held out her hand to him, silencing him. "I don’t care what you have to say!" She seethed. "I just don’t like wenches like this around you!"

Jennifer’s eyes widened when the insult she’d used on Dahlia only minutes prior was now being thrown at her. She scoffed, rising to her feet, but before she could speak, Orion and his mate had left, whilst talking to each other animatedly under hushed voices, their lovey dovey-ness like a blow to her guts.

She hated the damn girl for overpowering her like she was a toddler.

She hated Orion for leaving her for the hag.

She hated Zarek too because if he wasn’t so cruel to her, she would’ve never looked in Orion’s way.

But most of all, she hated Dahlia. Dahlia was the one who had stolen everything from her— especially Zarek. She was the one who made her life miserable even in her absence.

And she swore to herself and to the moon goddess that she would kill her— it was only a matter of time.
