The Alpha's Fated Mate Is an Outcast-Chapter 121
The rain was pouring down heavily on Alexis who stood before the casket that was yet to be rolled into the ground. She was clad in a black pair of black pants and a shirt, and standing behind her were others. Augustus, Amora, Kaelis, Koena, and even Lorcan.
The man looked uncomfortable standing under the heavily pouring rain, but he wasn’t complaining.
Alexis stared at her mother’s well-dressed corpse. Once the casket was rolled onto the ground, she was never going to see her ever again. The only thing she would ever possibly ever possibly have to remember her face was a picture.
"Kid..." Sereia rubbed up against her leg, wanting to comfort her, and Alexis whose eyes were a teary mess in silence lowered her gaze to her and half smiled.
"I’m okay," she said.
She turned to those behind her. "You can put in your flowers."
Augustus was the first to step forward. He paused near the casket and peered at Eleni. Yes, he hadn’t really spoken to her the few times he’d met her, but...he liked her. She always smiled at him like a mother would to her child. She had a love that she was never afraid to give to just about any more.
A deep breath fled his nose and he kept the bouquet of lily of the valley above her. He wished Keelion could have been here. The man liked the woman a lot like he would his own mother. If anyone should have been here at this funeral with Alexis, it was him.
He took a step back and Amora stepped up next. She didn’t say a word. What could she do? So she smiled and put in her flower before moving back.
Kaelis went in next and so did Keona who sniffled, unable to control her crying. She had been watching Alexis all her life, so naturally, Eleni was always in the frame.
Lorcan stepped up next. He cleared his throat, unsure how to go about it. "Uh...I don’t really know you ma’am, but...I hope you’re going to a better place. Somewhere much happier." His lips curled into a smile that he rarely had and he put in the lilies he’d brought.
He bowed deeply at Eleni and turned around, walking off, this time without stopping. This is why he didn’t go to funerals, and definitely not ones like these. Every thought in his head now was of his own mother and all over again, he couldn’t help blaming himself for her misfortune.
The casket was finally rolled into the ground, but Alexis didn’t leave the place, even when everyone else did. She rather let the rain wet her completely, until Augustus himself had to come out and get her.
"Alexis, common. You can’t stay out here forever," he said.
She glanced at him. "I’ll be fine. I just need to—"
"No. You need to come inside. Being out here for so long is not going to change anything, okay?"
His persuasive look eventually got her to agree and while they all waited for her in the dining room, she took her time to change into a new pair of slacks and a navy blue shirt.
The best place they could have found to bury her mother was in Lorcan’s backyard, the garden. It was similar to where Keelion had her mother buried, and so she thought her mother would like to be buried somewhere that pretty.
Alexis walked into the dining room and approached the table where they were all seated. All eyes fell on her and without saying a word, she pulled a chair back and sat down.
She asked, "What is that?"
"This?" Lorcan arched his brow at the glass of alcohol on the table. "This is a funeral drink. Keelion and I did it when our mother..." His words died in his throat at the broken look on Alexis’s face.
Amora and Keona glared at him. 𝓯𝓻𝓮𝙚𝙬𝓮𝙗𝒏𝙤𝒗𝙚𝙡.𝒄𝒐𝓶
Kaelis shook his head and Augustus pinched between his brows.
Lorcan cleared his throat. "My apologies.: His red eyes were darting around. "As...I was saying, it’s a funeral drink, you know, to uh, toast to the dead. For them to go to a happy place."
Koena reached for the bottle, but he slammed her hand off. "Now, now, sweetheart, each of us can only have one glass."
They arched a brow at him.
"So that no one gets drunk, of course," he added. "This is a funeral, not a party."
Right. He had a point.
A glass was poured into each of them and they lifted it toward each other. "To a happier life, wherever she’s going to," they toasted and they clicked their glasses before drinking.
Alexis who had never drunk alcohol before contorted her face so much, it cramped. Keona and Amora began coughing frantically.
"It tastes horrible."
"And so beautiful."
Alexis hit her chest. "It burns."
"The burn is when you know it’s a good one," Lorcan commented.
Kaelis chuckled at their faces and so did Augutus who couldn’t hold back.
"There is nothing enjoyable about this," Keona mumbled and burst into laughter. "I don’t mind another shot though."
"Aha!" Lorcan pointed at her accusingly. "You like the burn, sweetheart. But no, only one shot. Nothing more." The smile on his face vanished.
Alexis smiled subconsciously and exhaled softly. It was a good funeral. And she was sure her mother was probably on her way to a better place now if she already hadn’t.
She glanced at Lorcan and said, "You said you were going to bring someone. Someone that can help me."
"Yes." Lorcan nodded and took a look at the rest. "There might be a problem though."
She blinked at him. "What...problem?"
The man hesitated, but he did ask, "How do you guys feel about vampires?"
They fluttered their lashes in confusion as they met each other’s eyes.
"Vampires?" Alexis asked.
Lorcan nodded. "Yes, Vampires. How do you guys feel about them? I know our race hates them, but personally, what are your thoughts and feelings?"
