Chapter 95: Another Side To The Spirit Guide (Ch.95)

Nile glanced around the Sea Cave, it was pitch dark and completely encased in shadows but his senses did not pick up any danger close by and so he knew it was safe, at least it was for the moment.

As Nile ventured in, his eyes quickly adjusted to the darkness of the cave and when he was certain he had gone in deep enough to conceal his presence, he slowly lowered the merman down to lay on the ground.

Nile also lowered himself to a seat, leaning against the cold wall of the Sea Cave, Nile took a moment to catch his breath before he placed down the Tide Trident and turned his attention to the merman.

Much like before, perspiration still formed on the merman’s forehead and the exposed parts of his skin and his face was scrunched up in pain, pained groans escaping his lips.

Nile’s brows furrowed in concern as he reached a hand out and placed it on the merman’s forehead, a burning pain shooting up his hand.

Nile pulled his hand back in shock, hissing quietly as he glanced down at his palm, watching as the blister that had formed healed up almost immediately.

"His skin is scalding hot!" Nile exclaimed, shaking his head slightly as he summoned his magic and again placed a hand on the merman’s forehead.

Nile watched as his magic encased the merman in a dim white glow and he hoped it could ease his discomfort and cool him to some extent at least.

"The flame poison is too strong... and with Zariah’s flame poison added..." Nile murmured, shaking his head as he did not dare to imagine the pain the merman was currently experiencing.

However Nile understood if Zariah had not added her own Flame Poison, this merman would already be dead.

Zariah’s Flame Poison was the only thing keeping the other flame poison at bay, this was exactly what she had meant by fight poison with poison so each resisted the other.

Eventually the most powerful would prevail and once that happened, the merman’s fate was still ultimately death, but at the very least, for the present time, it was the only way to buy ten days.

Although Nile was not certain if the merman had been conscious, would he have chosen to endure such excruciating pain just to preserve his life?

Or would he have rather been granted the release of death?

Nile could not tell, he did not know the merman’s personality all that well,

However Nile did know that sometimes death was a greater mercy than life and if there had been any other option than this, Nile knew Zariah would have never chosen this for the merman knowing the pain he would endure.

If Nile truly thought about it, the merman would experience even greater pain if he were left to die from the flame poison,

By now, the pain would have been over...but those twenty hours would have been a hundred times more excruciating than what he was currently feeling.

Right now, the merman’s body was only reacting to the presence of a contradictory element within his system.

For someone who preferred the colder temperates and was by nature a cold blooded creature, it was without a doubt that the two battling flame poisons within his system would cause him pain.

There were no safe options, whichever Zariah had chosen, this merman was doomed to endure this unfortunate pain, this could only be termed the lesser evil.

The only easy way out would have been to drive a sword through his heart so he had an easy death before the flame poison could burn it’s way to his heart.

But if Zariah had chosen that option, the Sea Kingdom would never understand the great mercy she was granting and would consider it a declaration of war.

Then the supernatural realm would be tossed into even more chaos than it already was.

Nile sighed, this merman was just another innocent victim to the chaos and greed of the supernatural realm, what exactly had he done to deserve such torture?

The kind of pain he was enduring was one that no one should ever have to endure and as Nile thought of it, he knew the only way to ease the merman’s pain was to share in his discomfort.

If Nile absorbed a portion of the flame energy pulsing through the merman’s veins, he could alleviate the merman’s pain by a fraction, at the cost of bearing that pain himself.

The idea did not sound bad to Nile at all, what he could not bear was watching this innocent merman wallow in pain for Creator knows how long, right under his watch.

Nile did not hesitate to come to his decision, a little pain was nothing to him, at the very least, the Crimson blood ran through his veins,

Flame energy could only cause him superficial pain, yet it would leave no damages, whereas for the merman, if this was allowed to continue, who knew just how long he could endure?

Nile reached deep within his spirit core and poured out even more of his magic, intent on helping the merman through this bout of pain, however a voice in his head stopped him.

’Save your magic Nile...look closely.’ Nile heard his wolf’s voice.

Nile brows furrowed as he glanced down at the merman, wondering what exactly he was looking for till he saw it.

While the dim white glow of Nile’s magic encased the merman, there was another glow of magic pulsing in his chest, right over his heart.

And it did not take Nile even a moment to recognize the dim red glow of Zariah’s Flame magic.

Nile’s eyes widened as he noticed the pained features of the merman and his groans of pain ease away and he understood exactly what was going on

"Alpha left a trace of her magic in the merman! It is protecting his heart and absorbing his pain! Doesn’t that mean...." Nile exclaimed aloud,

"Alpha is absorbing his pain." Nile’s wolf completed in his head even as Nile’s heart exploded in panic.

"I need to speak to her!" Nile exclaimed urgently. 𝐟𝚛𝕖𝚎𝕨𝗲𝐛𝚗𝐨𝐯𝐞𝕝.𝐜𝗼𝗺

’To mindlink from this distance will cost you a great deal of energy, one you cannot recover with just a few hours of rest.’ Nile’s wolf reminded him.

"I don’t care! We have to speak to her!" Nile insisted.

Nile’s eyes fluttered closed as he reached out to Zariah with his mind, hoping and praying she answered him and his heart sank when he hit a block.

Nile did not give up, he didn’t mind if it exhausted his energy or his magic as he tried over and over again, despite continuously hitting Zariah’s mind block.

Nile growled low, he needed to have Zariah stop whatever it was she was doing and he needed to have her stop it now!

’Why?! Just why did she have to risk herself for everybody else?! Even for a merman she barely knew?! Why did she even have to save him?! What was this supernatural realm that they dared put the Crimson Alpha in such a position?!’

The more Nile thought of it, the more his rage flared and his lips parted as a ferocious growl escaped his lips.

’Zariah! If you don’t answer me, I will kill him!’ Nile yelled through the mindlink knowing Zariah was blocking him out on purpose.

"Zariah!" Nile growled out in rage, both within his mind and audibly and just at that moment, as if by clockwork,

A low voice replied to Nile, but it wasn’t the voice Nile was expecting and it certainly didn’t come from his head but his side.

"What’s going on? Where am I?" The voice asked in confusion.

Nile’s wolf rose to the surface as his gaze turned to meet the tired gaze of the now conscious merman, the merman’s silver orbs portraying his confusion.

’At what cost is his consciousness? What price must my Alpha pay to save you? How are you worthy of her sacrifice?’ These thoughts ran through Nile’s mind and with it came a rage that was foreign to even him.

The spirit guide of Crimson Moon had never been so furious in his life, he was willing to make the sacrifice himself... but not Zariah, not his Alpha!

No one was allowed to cause Zariah pain, no one was allowed to hurt her whether intentionally or otherwise, yet this was the third time Zariah would be at risk all for this merman.

And if Nile had to make a choice between two lives...it could only ever be Zariah!

Nile’s wolf rose to the surface as a ferocious growl escaped his lips, in a flash, his claws and canines extended and his hands enclosed around the neck of the vulnerable merman.

"What..." The merman struggled to speak as his hands clawed at Nile’s crushing grip.

Nile’s eyes glowed brightly as he snarled, exposing his sharp set of teeth, he leaned down to meet the wide eyed gaze of the merman.

"If Zariah must be in pain because of you... then you are better off dead!" Nile snarled, every decorum of the spirit guide fading off to reveal the warrior wolf within.
