Chapter 67: What Do You Fear (Ch.67)

’In seeking for answers, one need always trace the source. The answer always lies at the origin.’

Zariah nodded slowly as she pondered over the words, the Creator never gave straight answers, Zariah had grown accustomed to this by now.

However for the guidance he accorded the Crimson Moon, Zariah was grateful for it and in this case, those words were all the answer she needed.

"If I must get the answers I seek, then I must know the right place to seek answers."

"The drawing is from the Ocean’s depth...why ponder over it out here?" Zariah murmured as she watched Nile smile slightly before the glow in his eyes disappeared.

"So... what are your orders Alpha?" Nile asked, knowing whatever he had said whilst divining had provided Zariah with the answers she needed.

"Darren and Allen shall continue their mission. I will need eyes and ear here and so I will entrust the Ethereal Domain to Dionne and Kaileen till our return."

" Nile shall accompany me to the Sea Kingdom, prepare accordingly." Zariah passed the orders through the pack link before she rose to her feet to head away, but she stopped when Nile called out to her.

"Alpha Zari?" Nile called.

Zariah turned to him, her brows quirked questioningly.

"The Creator’s will is absolute...we can only trust the process." Nile said in a serious tone,

Zariah frowned slightly at Nile’s words, turning around and heading out of his room.

Zariah did not care much for the Creator’s will...not anymore.

In the end, she would never make the same choices she made in her previous lifetime and if the Creator willed a gruesome fate for Crimson Moon... she would defy him also.

Zariah arrived at her quarters and quickly washed up before changing into a new pair of robes, when Zariah emerged from her washroom, the Crimson wolves were already awaiting her.

It was just a little to the crack of dawn, the two parties would be departing soon.

"Alpha." The five Crimson wolves greeted in unison with a low bow.

Zariah nodded slowly as she fastened her wrist guard before she lifted her gaze to Allen and Darren.

"You both are my right and left hand, I would never be willing to send you away if the situation was not urgent." Zariah began in a serious tone.

"We understand Alpha. As protectors of the realm, this has always been the duty of we Crimson wolves. We will carry out your orders without fail." Allen promised solemnly.

"I know you will." Zariah nodded slowly, her heart constricting in pain.

Zariah understood just why she felt reluctant to let them out of her sight, after holding their cold, dead bodies in her arms in the previous lifetime, 𝒻𝘳𝘦𝘦𝘸ℯ𝒷𝘯𝘰𝑣ℯ𝑙.𝘤𝑜𝘮

She had ensured to remain stuck to their sides, but now they were all out here, far away from the protection of the Crimson Barrier and with responsibilities to fulfill the duty owed to the supernatural realm,

Zariah had accepted the fact that she could not keep them safe and protected by keeping them at her side, they were the heart and soul of Crimson Moon... their duty was no longer to her alone but to the entire supernatural realm.

"Remain cautious at all times, from what we have heard, the fairy queen is not a person to be underestimated...but then again, neither are you two." Zariah said with a quiet chuckle.

"I will have Nile with me and so I will be fine, do not worry for me and only focus on your goal."

"You must get the fairy tale to withdraw her troops altogether, the Sea Kingdom must not be pressured into retaliation." Zariah reminded again,

"Understood." Darren replied first this time, a small smirk on his lips at Zariah unknowingly fussing.

Zariah did know she was fussing, but she did not mind it at all, for an Alpha, the members of your pack were more precious to you than even your own offspring.

"As for Dionne and Kaileen, keep your eyes and ears peeled. With the Ethereal Alphas and representatives all present here, someone might try to stir up trouble in King Askel’s absence and I need you both ready to handle anything." Zariah turned her focus to the two who would be left behind.

Zariah knew she could not leave the Ethereal Domain unwatched, just in case she was going on a wild goose chase and ended up without answers, then at least she was certain whatever happened in the Ethereal Domain, she would know of it.

"As Alpha commands." Dionne replied with a bow.

"Well then, there is nothing left to be said...you may take your leave." Zariah permitted with a nod, smiling slightly as Darren winked playfully at her before heading out of her quarters.

The moment her door was shut, Zariah’s eyes fluttered closed and she tilted her head back, sucking in a shaky breath whilst knowing Nile’s gaze was fixed on her, watching her actions carefully.

"You know clearly each of their strengths, you are assured of their ability to protect themselves...so what makes you so uneasy Alpha? This is unlike you, just what is it that you fear so?" Nile asked in bafflement,

"What I fear...?" Zariah asked with a mirthless chuckle.

"The future Nile... that is what I fear." Zariah replied as she also lead the way out of her quarters, heading out in search of her travel companion... the Alpha King.

______________

"She’s here." Luther whispered to Askel, alerting him to a presence he was already fully aware of.

If his wolf and beast howling excitedly in his head, or that maddeningly alluring scent was not enough of a heads up, then Askel did not know what was.

Askel lifted his gaze to take in the perfection that was his mate Zariah and Askel marvelled at how it only took that look to have his heart beating irregularly, as though eager to jump out his chest and welcome his mate itself.

Wasn’t it crazy how she could stir such strong emotions in Askel’s heart when she had not even said a word?

How one moment his heart was as heavy as someone grieving and now there was a total turn around at her presence?

How she could affect his mood and thoughts in every way possible without even intending to?

Askel was elated, he had not expected he would see his mate again before he left for the Sea Kingdom, in his own way, he had already said his goodbyes the previous night,

And Askel had not dared seek his mate out for fear of being unable to leave after setting eyes on her and knowing that she did not even want to see him,

But now that she had come to him of her own volition, Askel immediately forgot all considerations as he headed to meet her halfway, not even noticing the big, goofy smile on Luther’s face.

It did not take more than a few steps for them to arrive before one another, not more than the distance of a final step left between them,

Askel took notice of the fact that one of her Crimson Wolves had accompanied her, the one he had met first in the throne room,

He stood off to the side calmly, watching Askel and his head warrior with amusement in his eyes,

"Mhíjani..." Askel whispered in a deep breath, reverting his gaze to those enchanting Crimson orbs belonging to his mate, that was all the words he could muster at this very moment.

To Askel’s delight, his mate was late to respond, clearly also caught in his gaze for a moment, no matter how short of a moment it was,

Askel smiled adoringly as she quickly diverted her gaze to the side, taking a step back away from him.

"King Askel." She finally returned his greeting in a low murmur before she lifted her gaze to him again.

"It is chilling cold out here, you should not have come." Askel said in concern as he noticed the small shiver that ran through his mate and the light clothing that covered her, serving as the only barrier between her and the chilling winds from the sea shore.

The portal to the sea shore was already opened by the High Oracle and Askel and Luther had stepped through just a moment ago, only for his mate Zariah to arrive not long after them.

Her clothing fluttered in the wind as the waves crashing at the shores sprayed droplets of water that dampened her hair and clothing in the blink of an eye.

Askel quickly took off his coat and draped it over her shoulders, securing the ties at the front so she was completely protected, her thin form completely encased by his much larger coat.

Askel noticed his mate passed a fleeting glance at the coat but did not reject the gesture of concern,

Askel did not dare get his hopes up but he could not resist it when the seed of hope that had already planted itself deeply into his heart blossomed even more.
