Chapter 59: The Supernatural Council 2 (Ch.59)

In all honesty, the very beginnings of the peace alliance and the past centuries of glory of the supernatural realm, it had all begun with the Crimson Moon.

From granting the Royal Lycan Pack rulership over the Ethereal domain as the wolf shifters had been much like the vampires before without a distinct ruler,

Down to selecting the members and head of the supernatural council after the dark war, all of these had been done by the Crimson Moon Pack.

Even the division of the domains had been jointly decided by the supernatural races with the Crimson Moon presiding over the proceedings.

Zariah found it quite disappointing that all the species had forgotten the great cost of the peace they enjoyed today and could only think of declaring war at the slightest provocation,

However it was for this very reason that the supernatural council existed.

Zariah then felt another presence, a sixth presence, the one presence Zariah had encountered that did not have any scents attached to him whatsoever.

Zariah remembered clearly how baffled she had been when she first encountered the uniqueness of this presence.

A supernatural being without a scent, Zariah had always wondered just what specie he was.

Zariah could hear his footsteps approaching, the other members of the supernatural council who had arrived first stood completely still in respect of their leader.

Zariah found it silly that it was precisely at this moment that she recalled when her father had first told her of the supernatural council and the reason for their creation.

The dark war had resulted in great devastation across the supernatural realm and it had taken decades for peace and prosperity to return to the supernatural realm.

Before the dark war, the forsaken had already conquered over half the territory of the supernatural realm and so many lives had been lost to the war and even more to the possession of the darkness.

Many lands had been rendered barren by the darkness and many species rendered homeless and some extinct,

This was always the case after a great battle and the dark war was the greatest battle to have ever occurred in the history of the realms,

The devastation left behind by the forsaken had been beyond describing.

Even the Sea Kingdom had been greatly affected, four out of the seven great seas were poisoned by the darkness and were inhabitable for almost three decades.

The Sea was life and the source of existence to the merfolk, Zariah felt they were the most pitiful as they simply could not survive elsewhere for an extended amount of time.

The tainted waters had left the merfolk sickly and reduced their life span greatly, the remaining three seas had been overpopulated and the Sea Kingdom was left in complete chaos.

That was untill the Crimson Moon stepped in, when it came to the Sea Kingdom, the Crimson Wolves of the Flame Den were also helpless.

Fire was always the surest way to vanquish the darkness, most especially the Crimson Flame.

However the Crimson Moon had not been spared from the devastation after the dark war, the Crimson Alpha had been left exhausted and unable to utilize the Crimson Flame,

Hundreds of Crimson Wolves had fallen and after a few years of recovery, the Crimson Moon was finally able to lend aid.

It had taken the combined efforts of the water and spirit elemental wolves for years and even the sacrifice of a few to purify the four tainted seas of the darkness polluting it,

Restoring the Sea Kingdom to the safe haven it had always been for the merfolk.

But there was only so much the Crimson Moon could do when the devastation was so wide spread.

The Floral Domain had lost it’s glow and the magic of the fairies was depleted greatly, leaving them incapable of flight for decades.

Of course there was nothing the Crimson Moon could do to help restore magic to the Earth, or at least Zariah did not know of any methods.

The magic was eventually restored but Zariah was not certain if the Crimson Moon had any part in it or not, her father had not specified.

Zariah had noticed her father did not favor speaking of the Fairies and the Witches, for some reason, he found the two species distasteful.

Zariah’s father had then told her of the vampires and the dwarves.

Almost half the population of the vampires had fallen into blood haze and had to be barricaded from the rest of the supernatural realm for decades till they regained their control.

The dwarven lands had been rendered barren, overrun by the darkness, the dwarves had retreated to their underground fortress and had not returned to the surface realm even up to this day.

The Great Mythical Beasts, the Dragons had returned to their Mountain Kingdom, inaccessible to the rest of the supernatural races.

They had always been a distinct race, divided from the supernatural realm and had only lended a hand in battling the forsaken as they were a common enemy.

The wolf shifters, the witches, the demons, all had lost over half their original population to there darkness, there was no race that had not suffered greatly from the backlash of the dark war.

It had taken long and grueling decades and the Creator’s touch for the supernatural realm to be restored to it’s former glory.

After witnessing first hand the destruction and devastation caused by war, the rulers of the supernatural realm had agreed on a peace treaty, forming the great alliance in order to avoid the horrors of war as much as was possible.

This was where the supernatural council came in.

Formed by the supernaturals who had proven most worthy in the dark war,

The supernatural council was charged with the duty of protecting the peace between the supernatural races after the end of the dark war.

They were the only dignitaries with the rights to intercede between the rulers of the supernatural realm and seek methods to pacify agitation.

They were also the highest court of judgement for inter race conflict or conflicts that exceeded the jurisdiction of the supernatural rulers.

Although the supernatural rulers were of greater rank than the supernatural council, upon the creation of the alliance, the leaders had all agreed to abide by the judgements of the supernatural council.

There were decisions that if made by the leaders of the supernatural realm would only result in conflict,

The situation between the Sea Kingdom and the Floral Domain was one of such,

King Askel’s interference at the Royal Lycan Arena had already put the wolf shifters at a disadvantage in the conflict,

The wolf shifters would now be seen to have sided with the Sea Kingdom and thus the Floral Domain would bear grudges.

And anyone who knew the fairies knew just how good they at holding grudges, it was clear in how they still detested the wolf shifters for getting a part of their territory during the division of the domains when they had initially agreed to it.

However had King Askel done otherwise and turned a blind eye to the challenge at the Royal Lycan Arena,

He would have then be considered to have taken sides with the Floral Domain and would ultimately have made an enemy of the Sea Kingdom.

Much like that, all supernatural leaders would eventually be forced to chose a side which would only escalate the situation beyond control,

The alliance was already fragile enough as it was, any aggression at this point would result in the end of the centuries long peace between the realms.

Hence the best solution was for all supernatural leaders to take a step back and grant full rights of intervention to the supernatural council.

The Sea King was much more reasonable than the Fairy Queen, however when it came to the loss of an offspring, how many could still retain reasonability?

In the previous lifetime, angered as Zariah had been when she received news of the destruction caused by the Sea King, she could never bring herself to blame him.

To loose a son in the blink of an eye over such a situation, it was simply too unbearable.

Zariah felt greatly relieved that she had been able to thwart Prince Treyton’s fate this time,

It was at this point Zariah recalled that King Askel had arrived before her and had been just a moment away from tearing through the barrier of the battle fairies,

Zariah found herself wondering if King Askel had chosen to interfere in the previous lifetime like he had this time or if he had just remained on the sidelines,

If he had interfered, how could things have still ended up the way they did? How could he have failed to save Prince Treyton’s life?

And if he had not, then how come he had chosen to interfere this time? Was Zariah’s presence in the Royal Lycan territory already changing fate all on it’s own?

However Zariah did not have much time to ponder over it as the familiar presence stepped into the throne room and his eyes first settled on Zariah.

Zariah finally let her gaze open to meet the familar face of her father’s dear friend and the head of the supernatural council...Lord Kodin.
