The Alpha King's Nemesis-Chapter 229: No Use ()
"Is this the best you can do?...Is this the result of your reassurance?! Did you not swear she was smitten by you and confused by the bond?! Distracted from Askel?!" Morden hissed furiously, slamming a hand down on his desk.
Caedmon’s brows twitched slightly, his hands were clenched to fists by his sides and he lowered his head in shame, whilst rage and a deep sense of humiliation churned within his veins.
"I... I have no words..." Caedmon stuttered out.
Caedmon still reeled from the word they had received from the spies in the Ethereal domain.
The Alpha King Askel had completed the mate bond and proclaimed at dawn that there was to be a coronation for the new Alpha Queen, and it was none other than Zariah.
Of course it was Zariah, Zariah and Askel were true mates, there was no one who was ignorant of this fact. Caedmon also knew this, but in the past month, he had found himself growing attached to his target, and Caedmon had been convinced it was mutual up to this moment.
But he had only been away for three days and Zariah accepted Askel’s bond completely and even consummated it?! She was going to be his queen?! Caedmon could not believe it!
The best she could have done if she held any regard for him was wait for his return to make her decision like Caedmon had asked of her, he had asked it of her so earnestly, painstakingly preparing and planning out a beautiful moment in the flower meadow? 𝚏𝗿𝗲𝐞𝐰𝚎𝕓𝐧𝚘𝘃𝗲𝐥.𝐜𝚘𝕞
Zariah had smiled and laughed brightly, her eyes lit up when she spoke to him and she had told him to go and return at his own time for her decision. So what was this?! What had all of that been?!
Caedmon could not understand it! And the harder it was to understand, the more furious he became.
’Had she deceived him all this while?! Had Zariah ever even contemplated giving him a chance or choosing him over Askel or had she just misled him all along?’ Caedmon wondered.
Caedmon could not believe it! He had executed his plan much too perfectly for him to have failed. Caedmon was certain Zariah had also fallen for him, so what had gone wrong?
"Are you truly not going to say a word?" Morden hissed in distaste, his deadly glare fixed on Caedmon.
Caedmon’s thoughts raced at a mile per minute, picturing all possible scenarios.
’Had Zariah known? Had she caught onto him? Had she sensed something suspicious with their bond? Was that why she had swiftly bonded with Askel before Caedmon’s return?’
But even that was hardly a possibility, the potion that forged the mate bond was too potent. Caedmon could still feel the bond so strongly, it was impossible to differentiate it from the true mate bond.
"Askel must have interfered somehow! He must have done something, said something... the moment he knew I was away, he must have leaped at the opportunity to snatch her away. This is all his fault!" Caedmon suddenly came to a realization.
His head jerked up and he nodded fervently to buttress his point. But Caedmon was immediately greeted by sharp pain as the crystal ball that always rested on Morden’s desk, crashed into his head.
The ball shattered to a thousand tiny pieces, shards flying everywhere and Caedmon could feel some get stuck in his skin and blood dripped down his forehead to the sides of his face.
"Is that meant to be an excuse?! Did you expect Askel to sit still and watch you snatch away his mate?! We knew he would do everything to keep her! Was that not why I spared no resources to support you?!"
"You were to succeed regardless of what Askel does or does not do! Is that your excuse?! That he did not hand his mate over to you on a silver platter?!" Morden snarled.
The table and the earth shook in his rage and a lamp post at the end of the room shattered all on its own.
Caedmon could recognise the magic of an earth witch and he winced visibly knowing Morden’s magic only manifested out of his control when he was extremely furious.
Caedmon could not hide the visible tremors, there was no one who would not be terrified when confronted with Morden’s wrath.
Morden inhaled sharply, his fists unclenched and he walked over to the window, staring out of it for a moment.
"Your incapability stems from your conceited nature. You were foolish to have believed you could so easily overcome the mate bond with just a few, immature tricks... serenades...how does that measure up to the actual Ethereal King?" Morden hissed.
"And it is my own oversight to ever conceive that you could be a rival to that brother of mine...in anything. I should have known that in this world, there is only me who can rival Askel Vance Niolen." Morden muttered.
Caedmon’s hands clenched tighter, his claws dug into his own flesh and blood dripped from his fists.
"The potion serves no consequence now... the life of an earth witch, wasted on your word. I should have your head...but even that would be a waste of my time." Morden said in distaste.
"Standing over there seething is of no use. You...are of no use to me for the foreseeable." Morden said, his tone bored.
"Go...live, or die. Do whatever you will, but never appear before my eyes again. This is the greatest leniency I can offer in consideration of your long term service." Morden dismissed blankly.
Caedmon’s brows twitched slightly, he strode over to Morden’s table and grabbed the potion.
Caedmon was not silly enough to believe that went by Morden’s notice, but he did not even glance back. The potion was of no use to Morden either.
"I will get the shard from Alpha Zariah and I will ensure that coronation never takes place, even if I must end her life... I have not failed yet, not if I can still stop it." Caedmon said and stormed out.
