Chapter 179: Who Could Understand? (Ch.179)

"What could King Askel possibly have to conceal away from you? Especially in such a time? You both are mates, there should be nothing you are unable to discuss."

"This only makes the situation even more complicated than it should be." Kristen murmured from where he sat.

"With Caedmon showing up out of the blue, I truly cannot tell how King Askel is taking this situation. But the days are quickly running by and something needs to be done about this." Nile said in a serious tone.

"Nile is right. We have come here for a purpose, which cannot be achieved if we have to avoid the Ethereal Palace and the Royal Lycans... besides, King Askel’s feelings would also be a consideration." Darren agreed.

"And what is that something you all suggest should be done?" Zariah asked with a raised brow.

Zariah also knew she could not achieve anything by hiding away in the human settlement, she would have to face the situation at hand, one way or the other and it was always better sooner much rather than later.

"We have discussed at length with Lucas and we believe there are only a few people who can provide an unbiased judgement on this matter that would be acceptable to all parties."

"This will ensure there is no risk of internal strife amongst the Ethereal Alphas." Nile explained.

"After discussing it with Lucas, we have decided to send word to Lord Kodin and Lord Melven to request their presence at the Ethereal Palace urgently."

"Upon their arrival, they will make a judgement and I believe King Askel and Alpha Caedmon would both respect it." Nile relayed to Zariah.

Zariah thought over it for a moment, Lord Kodin was the head of the Supernatural Council and well respected even by all Monarchs of the domains, hence both King Askel and Alpha Caedmon would be unable to overlook his words.

And Lord Melven was Zariah’s uncle, the last living Elder of her family. As Zariah was the woman caught in between both mates, Lord Melven would have to be involved to protect Zariah’s honor in whatever decision was made.

Lord Melven was also a respected figure in the Sea Kingdom and beyond.

It was a reasonable decision that both respected personalities were invited to handle the situation, it would relieve King Askel of having to make the decisions himself and earning the scorn of his subordinates.

It would also make certain that Alpha Caedmon could not argue that he had been treated unfairly at the end of the deliberations.

All other related powers, including the Royal Lycan council, the Ethereal Alphas and the people of the domain would also be pacified.

It was a move Zariah knew was the most effective way to sort out the situation at hand and so Zariah nodded slowly in agreement.

"It is settled then, I will send word out to Lords Kodin and Melven and portals will be provided to aid them arrive as soon as is possible." Nile immediately got to work.

"And I will have Allen relay to Lucas that you are in agreement to the idea. It would then be announced to the Royal Lycans and the Ethereal Alphas."

"I strongly believe everyone has been greatly worried by this situation as we also have been and so there should be no opposition." Darren asserted.

"As soon as Lords Melven and Kodin arrive, we will also have to return to the Ethereal Palace. You will need to be prepared, Zari." Darren added.

Zariah nodded in understanding, she had been away from the Ethereal Palace for long enough and nothing had sorted itself out.

Going back this time was the right thing to do, whatever decision Lords Kodin and Melven would make, Zariah already had her own thoughts in mind.

_______________

Askel stood before the floor length mirror, staring at his reflection, a hollow and distant look in his eyes, one that even Askel himself could see.

As the beast finally receded from the surface after three full days of controlling Askel’s body, Askel was left feeling numb and drained,

Like a shell of himself or even something worse than that, if there was.

It was the same way Askel felt whenever the beast took over, weak, pathetic, completely useless and his heart filled with self loathing.

That was just how much of himself Askel had lost to the beast, so much of himself that Askel could barely recognize who he was after each episode,

And the only thing Askel could do was remind himself time and time again that this dreadful monster that possessed his mind was the gift given to him by his father.

The black markings that were still apparent on Askel’s skin did not help in the slightest, to Askel , they were like stains that marred his very soul, screaming ahead of Askel that he was one who had already been tainted by darkness and could never be free of it.

Askel was tempted to scratch at the markings till they were peeled off, even if it took a layer of his skin with it.

But Askel knew it would be nothing but a futile attempt, these black markings that appeared on his skin whenever the beast took control lasted for long after the beast had retreated.

The markings would only disappear when it choose to and not a moment before, not even if Askel flayed his own skin.

Askel knew this because he had already tried it many times before, that and a long list of other attempts to be rid of these markings.

"Askel...how do you feel?" Lucas asked Askel.

Askel did not respond immediately, it took him a long while and Lucas had already concluded he would not be getting a response,

But it was then a quiet chuckle sounded from Askel.

The question Lucas had asked was an amusing one for two reasons.

Firstly, there was no word or phrase in existence that could accurately describe just how Askel felt at this moment.

Secondly, even if he could someho

w explain how he felt, would Lucas understand him? Would anyone understand him?
