The Alpha King's Nemesis-Chapter 158: Troubling Identity ()

"Your Grace, Elder Jared seeks audience." Came a voice that drew Queen Sancia out of her thoughts.

"Let him in." Queen Sancia permitted immediately as she took a seat in her lounge just as the doors came open and the middle aged elder stepped in.

Elder Jared was one of the most respected elders of the Royal Lycan Pack and a dear friend of Queen Sancia’s.

In the past days, Queen Sancia had grown increasingly restless and so she had summoned Elder Jared to share her troubles and perhaps find a solution to them.

If Queen Sancia was being honest, she already had a solution in mind. However she needed an assurance that what she intended to do was right.

"Your Grace." Elder Jared greeted as he walked in, lowering his head to a bow.

"Jared, please sit. Many thanks for arriving at such short notice." Queen Sancia said gratefully, she knew elder Jared had many duties to see to.

Especially now when Askel was out of it and it was up to the elders to pacify the citizens of the Ethereal Domain.

"It is no trouble at all. Why have you summoned me with such urgency?" Elder Jared asked as he took a seat across from Queen Sancia.

Queen Sancia was quiet for a moment, there were many affairs that burdened heavily on her mind and she did not know where to begin.

"According to the customs of the Ethereal Domain, an unmated prince may not be crowned king till he is mated." Queen Sancia began.

"Indeed. An exception was made for His Grace due to the unfortunate passing of the previous Alpha King and the absence of another legitimate heir." Elder Jared replied in agreement.

Queen Sancia’s brows twitched slightly but she nodded.

"It was a great relief that His Grace found his mate on the day of his enthronement, which solidified his rule without contention...who would have expected all of this would happen?" Elder Jared continued with a heavy sigh.

"With or without a mate, Askel has proven worthy to be Alpha King. He is the chosen Ethereal King with the mandate to reunite the supernatural realm under the supreme rule of the wolf shifters." Queen Sancia reminded firmly.

She did not like hearing Askel’s feats attributed to his newly found mate, his claim to the throne was legitimate, it had nothing to do with a mate.

"Without a doubt, His Grace’s authority cannot be challenged. Yet in recent times, I must admit the elders have begun to show concerns." Elder Jared revealed.

"I am certain this is the reason Your Grace has summoned me. King Askel’s withdrawal is a cause for concern."

"Other than his basic duties, he has refused to host any social gatherings as is required of him. He also will not see the elders or the council of Ethereal Alphas."

"Even I have not set eyes on him in weeks and it is unsettling."

"We do understand the circumstances but it is a few months into his reign, he cannot afford to lose the people’s faith at this time." Elder Jared said with a shake of his head.

"Askel is young, his mate’s condition is more than he can handle. He simply does not know how to react to it." Queen Sancia said with a sigh.

"Before His Grace is a mate, he is the Ethereal Alpha King. Entrusted with the well being of thousands of wolves and humans alike."

"The people need to see his strength, especially in a time like this. They need to know their King would not abandon them in favor of his own desires." Elder Jared replied.

"But for Askel, this is a difficult time. We have to ensure this moment of weakness does not impact his rule in anyway... he will recover in time, all he needs is time." Queen Sancia reasoned.

"Perhaps it is unfair, but the fate of a King is much different from that of an ordinary wolf. I believe Your Grace would know better than I, the sacrifices expected of a monarch..." Elder Jared trailed off for a moment.

Queen Sancia’s hands clenched into fists, how could she not know it? She herself had once been Ethereal Alpha Queen, she had made too many of such sacrifices, more than she was willing to recall.

"A regular wolf is allowed to despair over their mate for decades if need be, but a King cannot afford such luxuries. More than that, the identity of His Grace’s mate is also concerning." Elder Jared continued.

Queen Sancia sighed heavily, she had also been greatly burdened by this. The Crimson Alpha mated to the Ethereal King.

These were two of the most powerful leaders amongst wolf kind and had been for centuries, both powers were allies, this was true.

But what was even more true was the fact that they did not complement each other, instead they were always meant to keep each other in check.

The Crimson Alpha and the Ethereal King...who would have to give up a dynasty for the other?

Queen Sancia already had a good enough idea of who amongst these two Alphas were willing to o give up everything for the other, she could already see it playing out right before her eyes.

Queen Sancia had called for Elder Jared because she needed to hear his thoughts before she came to a decision on what to do.

"Elder Jared, I want more than anything for my son to have all he desires. A mate he loves and one who loves him in return, the truest and most special bond there could ever be..." Queen Sancia began,

"But the identity of Askel’s mate is troubling and so I worry, Jared." 𝗳𝚛𝚎𝚎𝘄𝕖𝕓𝕟𝕠𝚟𝚎𝕝.𝗰𝕠𝐦

"The Royal Lycan Pack has had dominion over the Ethereal Domain for centuries, there is no contention. But with the Crimson Moon Pack..." Queen Sancia trailed off, revealing her worries.

"All these years, they have been in seclusion. But now that they return to the realm, the legacy of the Royal Lycan Pack is at risk." Elder Jared said in understanding.

"I knew you would share my concerns. It goes without saying that to crown the Crimson Alpha as Ethereal Queen...it is too concerning." Queen Sancia said with a shake of her head.
