Chapter 145: A Queen of Fire (Ch.145)

A scream of pain tore out of Zariah’s lips as wave after wave of glowing blue flame exploded out of her, spreading across the entire winter woods.

The flames tore out of her with such great force, it shook the very earth and the protective barrier that kept everyone safe from the flames.

King Askel’s heart ached, he knew unleashing the last reserves of her Crimson Flame must have been an excruciatingly painful endeavor for Zariah,

He had seen her exhaustion already after the battle at the Sea Dome, wielding the Crimson Flame was tasking on her yet he knew he could not ask her to do otherwise.

His mate was a shinning beacon of light that stood at the very top of the world, providing warmth and security to all those beneath her.

She was the one the world would always look up to for answers when things went awry and she was duty bound to rise to the call.

Lord Protector of the supernatural realm...with this title came great and burdensome responsibilities.

And that was just who she was meant to be, a saviour and a protector... this was the fate of the Crimson Alpha,

A fate King Askel knew Zariah had accepted with open arms.

As much as he dearly hoped he could shield her from all the pain and sorrow of the world, to never let her face any danger, he knew at times like this...

At times where her pain would bring the benefit of saving lives and protecting those she cared about, at times where everyone looked up to her to provide the answer,

He knew the only way he could love her truly was to restrain his protective urges.

To stand aside and let Zariah fulfill her will and when she was done, his arms would be her place of comfort and warmth.

And so King Askel stood behind the barrier erected by the Crimson Beta, his hands clenched into fists as Zariah’s flames poured out without reserve.

Her pain was his pain and just watching her like this left him feeling devastated and incapable.

It seemed Zariah had no control over her Crimson Flame anymore, her hair, hands and clothing were alight with the glowing blue flames yet she remained unburnt.

How could she be burnt when she was the brightest, fiercest flame herself?

How could she be burnt when she was the bringer of flames? A Queen of fire and will...

And this Queen, this unbelievably powerful wolf belonged to him.

King Askel could not help but wonder, how had he become so blessed?

’She is beautiful...by the Creator, she is the most beautiful existence I have ever seen...’ King Askel thought to himself as he watched her.

The Crimson Flames brought more than the desired effect, raging across the winter woods, the ice melted at it’s touch, giving way for the green fields of the summer woods.

"She is melting the entire winter woods...she is lifting the ice curse...amazing!" Lord Kodin exclaimed in awe as all present witnessed the glorious sight.

Inch by inch the ice of the winter woods was swallowed up and completely consumed by the Crimson Flame.

What was amazing was the fact that it did not leave behind a wasteland, but a flourishing forest, the summer woods which had been overwhelmed by Queen Heveneth’s ice magic.

Slowly, the summer woods was restored right before their awed gazes, even beneath their feet and all around them, the greenery sprang to life.

And then, Zariah lifted a fist and slammed it down on the frozen lake above which she stood.

A wave of Crimson Flame burst out from her fists and cracks began spreading rapidly across the lake and in an instant, the ice covering the lake was completely consumed.

Knowing her job was done, Zariah slowly lowered her hand to her side and in the next moment, the ice beneath her feet was melted and she fell backwards, plunging into the lake.

King Askel could see it as well as everyone else that Zariah had lost consciousness and he dashed for her, jumping straight into the depths.

King Askel could see her, red tresses swaying slightly in the water and her eyes shut as though in a deep sleep, sinking down to the bottom of the lake.

King Askel swam for her and grabbed her, pulling her close into his arms before he swarm for the surface.

Of course, King Askel also caught sight of the unconscious fairy princess and battle lord Dinani, but he did not care in one bit.

Neither of them were his responsibility, all he cared for was Zariah.

King Askel’s head broke the surface and he swam to the shore, stepping out with the aid of the Crimson Beta who stared at Zariah worriedly.

"How is she?" Nile asked as he and Kristen were at Zariah’s side in an instant.

"You all just... give me a moment." King Askel said in a pained tone.

As much as he understood Zariah had a purpose as Crimson Alpha, watching her endanger herself like this for others left a bitter feeling in the pit of his stomach.

And King Askel knew the Crimson Wolves did care and love Zariah, but they had already accepted the sacrifices she would have to make as Crimson Alpha... they could not understand how King Askel felt.

Nile, Kristen and Allen nodded in understanding, stepping back and allowing King Askel to pass by with Zariah.

King Askel laid Zariah, resting her head against a tree as he crouched down before her.

Meanwhile, Darren emerged from the lake with the Fairy Princess cradled in his arms.

Queen Heveneth rushed into her mate’s arms as Battle Lord Dinani also swam out and was quick to hold his mate as she sobbed into his chest.

It seemed he had already regained consciousness. As a water nymph, being imprisoned at the bottom of a water body would do him no harm.

However the case was different for Princess Eloneth who was a summer fairy.

"Her hair is loosing it’s glow! It’s turning white!" Darren exclaimed, attracting everyone’s attention to Princess Eloneth’s condition.

And truly, the brilliantly glowing gold tresses of the princess of the summer fairies had turned dim and strand by strand, began turning into a snowy white.

"By the Creator! Eloneth!" Queen Heveneth exclaimed, rushing to her daughter and reaching a trembling hand to her hair.

"As a summer fairy, being imprisoned in a frozen lake is a death sentence...it is already a miracle she has survived, the ice has seeped into her bones and blood stream." The council vampire, Vima murmured from where she stood.

"Then the Crimson Alpha must save her!" Queen Heveneth exclaimed as she placed a hand on Darren’s shoulder while Darren just stared down at his mate with a pained gaze.

"She is your sister, is she not?! She has to save my Eloneth! You must ask it of her!" Queen Heveneth reasoned.

Darren remained quiet, his thoughts jumbled up and his heart tight.

"Let go of him!" Nile exclaimed when he noticed the hold Queen Heveneth had on Darren’s shoulder.

Darren was already in such devastation, torn between his concern for his mate and Zariah, yet Queen Heveneth would not relent.

Queen Heveneth dropped her hand, lifting a glare to Nile. Clearly the Fairy Queen’s arrogant and self entitled nature could not be so easily changed.

"If he won’t ask it...then I shall!" Queen Heveneth hissed.

"Heveneth..." Lord Dinani and Lord Kodin began in unison before both men passed each other a glance and swallowed down whatever words they intended to say.

There was truly no need to speak anyways as Queen Heveneth was already on her way to meet Zariah without a care for what they thought of it.

"Stop right there!" King Askel snarled, feeling Queen Heveneth’s approach.

"The Crimson Alpha is the only one who can save my daughter! She needs to be woken up!" Queen Heveneth demanded.

"Who the hell do you think you are?!" Nile roared furiously as everyone looked on in disbelief at Queen Heveneth’s unreasonable demand.

King Askel’s gaze narrowed in rage as he slowly rose to his feet and spun around.

His hand shot out in a flash and encircled Queen Heveneth’s neck before she could even realize what was happening.

His claws extended and his golden orbs glowed as his beast rose to the surface.

King Askel lifted the fairy queen off her feet, his claws digging into her throat.

"You unsightly ingrate! Let me make this clear, if anything happens to Zariah... your life and that of your daughter and mate are mine!" King Askel snarled.

In King Askel’s rage, he did notice Nile slipping past him to check on Zariah’s condition but he was not opposed to it.

However all his rage gave way for the cold chilling feeling of fear as Nile gave a panicked report.

"Her breathing is unsteady! She needs a healer!" Nile exclaimed urgently.

King Askel tossed Queen Heveneth away without a care as he lifted Zariah into his arms, cradling her close to his chest.

"There had better be a healer waiting in your palace already." Darren warned as he stared at the Fairy Queen distastefully before he rose to his feet, his mate still in his arms.
