Chapter 140: A Sea Lord’s Memory (Ch.140)

"You mean...my mother was born here? In the Sea Kingdom?" Zariah asked in a low tone as she stared up at Lord Melven from where she sat beside Askel.

Askel’s hand reached for Zariah’s and took her hand in his, he could see the apprehension in her gaze and he could understand how she felt.

Zariah had grown up believing certain things about herself and her family, as Crimson Alpha, her lineage was of great importance yet it turned out, not everything she knew was entirely accurate.

Askel tightened his hand around hers, interlocking their fingers as he grazed his thumb slowly over the back of her hand to comfort and reassure Zariah of his presence.

Nile also stood off to the side with Kristen, Zariah had sent for both of them as the truth behind her lineage was as important to her most trusted companions as it was to her.

There was a baffled look on Nile’s face at Lord Melven’s revelation.

"How is that even possible? From the Sea Kingdom into the Crimson Barrier?" Nile asked uncertainly.

"I do not know myself, but I know for sure that she is Zariah’s birth mother. Did she never tell you anything?" Lord Melven asked in a sad tone.

"Well... she was not privileged to tell me much of anything, she passed away... a few months after my birth." Zariah said in a low tone.

Lord Melven heaved a shuddering breath, seeming shaken by the revelation that Zariah’s mother was dead.

"You knew my mother... personally?" Zariah asked as she watched Lord Melven’s reaction.

Lord Melven sighed quietly, nodding his head slowly.

"Between your mother and I, it was more than knowing...I raised her..." Lord Melven revealed with a sigh.

Zariah’s eyes widened slightly as she exchanged a glance with Nile who looked just as astonished as she was.

"You raised...my mother...?" Zariah murmured to herself in a questioning tone as though she had to say it out loud to fully process it.

"I know this must not be easy for you to handle right now..." Lord Melven began to comfort but Zariah cut him off.

"There will never be a time where this will be easy for me, I am fine. If you knew my mother, then you must know who she was? If I was birthed to a mer..." Zariah trailed off, uncertain of what that would mean.

"Your mother was not just any ordinary person, she was Princess of the Coral Seas... she was my ward and my sister...but she was no mer Zariah." Lord Melven explained.

Zariah frowned slightly at Lord Melven’s words, if her mother was not a mer, then that did not explain why she somehow had transformed into one.

"She was not a mer? Then how...?" Zariah asked in bafflement.

"To let you understand this, I must let you see for yourself. I hear the spirit guide of Crimson Moon posseses the ability to project memories, I must trouble you for aid..."

"May I tell you a tale... Zariah?" Lord Melven asked hopefully,

Zariah was quiet for a moment before she nodded once at Nile.

"Would you rather do this alone... Alpha?" Nile asked to know if Zariah wanted the memories projected to her alone.

"No...there is nothing to hide Nile." Zariah replied with a shake of her head

"Please..." Zariah gave her consent to commence as her eyes fluttered closed knowing the memories would be projected to the minds of everyone in the room.

~The Palace Of The Coral Seas~

"Aaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!" A loud scream resonated from within the chambers of the lady of the coral seas as birthing attendants swam back and forth in a frantic manner.

The coral palace trembled slightly as water magic exploded from within the chambers in uncontrolled waves.

Lord Melven’s tail twitched in agitation as he awaited outside in the hallway, running a hand through his hair in frustration.

"My Lord, the Sea King wishes to know the cause of the seismic disturbances in the Coral Seas." A battle mer informed Lord Melven in a worried tone.

"Tell my brother I am handling it! He can be rest assured that the Coral Seas is under control! Double the guards around the palace...no one must know of my mother’s travail! No one!" Lord Melven ordered in a fierce tone.

The screams continued from within the chambers and Lord Melven’s brow furrowed in concern as he drew his sword and thrust it down to the ground, summoning his magic to erect a barrier around the chambers.

Soon, the trembling of the palace calmed as the uncontrolled water magic from within the chambers were blocked off by Lord Melven’s barrier.

The screams continued, loud and heartwrenching till finally, they died down and Lord Melven’s eyes widened slightly.

A birthing attendant emerged from the room, hurrying out to swim past Lord Melven but he stopped her.

"My mother and the child?!" Lord Melven demanded,

"I... I... the child has no gills My Lord, she cannot breathe! The Lady is nursing the child with magic but I must hurry to get a potion that will aid the child breathe." The attendant reported urgently.

"Go...hurry along." Lord Melven said as he hurried into the chambers and to his mother’s side.

A glance at his mother’s countenance told him all he needed to know and Lord Melven shook his head slightly.

"No..." Lord Melven murmured shaking his head.

"Melven...send them away, we must speak..." Lady Darla said to her son.

Lord Melven dismissed the attendants and swam to his mother’s side, a pained gasp escaping his lips as he saw the bed dyed red with blood.

"The birth was too tasking on me..." Lady Darla began but Lord Melven cut her off.

"I will send for a healer... I will summon the oracle..." Lord Melven began, shaking his head in disagreement.

"No Melven... I know my own condition, I will not survive this..." Lady Darla said in a firm tone.

"This is all his fault! How could he let you do this alone?! I will never forgive him!" Lord Melven hissed furiously.

"No Melven! Face the truth! This is all my own fault... this is my choice!" Lady Darla hissed back through pained breaths.

"He came to me Melven, he begged me to be his. He did not mind that I had already given up hope of ever finding him and gave my heart to another man, birthing him a son too... he did not mind Melven, he was willing to be a father to you."

"But I just couldn’t... I couldn’t give my heart to another, not after your father..." Lady Darla sobbed,
