The 70s Novel: The Supporting Character Just Wants to Lie Down-Chapter 164: Searching for a Way to Rescue Xue Yunyun
The man was clearly familiar with the town’s layout, while Luan Qian was visiting for the first time. As he turned into an alley, she hurriedly followed, but after several twists and turns, she lost him.
After searching several alleys without finding him, Luan Qian, feeling anxious and clueless, ran into Wang Miaomiao and her group of three.
Upon hearing the news, Wang Miaomiao immediately assigned tasks, "Sister Hui Lan, you go to the armed forces department and file a report, directly accuse the circus of human trafficking, and have them quickly control those circus people. Also, have them interrogate the man who was just sent there. If the armed forces don’t believe you or are dismissive, go to the post office and call the military to find Instructor Zhu."
"Cousin, can you do this?" Cheng Xue hesitated, thinking her cousin’s personality didn’t seem suited for assertive confrontations. She feared her cousin might be indecisive, which could delay things.
"Huh?" Jiang Huilan replied weakly, "Okay."
Wang Miaomiao frowned slightly, unable to help but sigh. She originally planned to have Jiang Huilan deliver the message while she accompanied Cheng Xue and Luan Qian to find clues.
Though Cheng Xue and Luan Qian are strong, they are still young girls who haven’t experienced much. She feared their impulsive actions, hence her decision to follow them.
But seeing Jiang Huilan’s state, she hesitated again, "I’ll go to the armed forces myself then. I’ll be quick. If you find the person and there are many of them, you must hold steady and avoid impulsivity."
"Got it, Sister Miaomiao, we understand," Cheng Xue said, acknowledging outwardly but inwardly fantasizing about dismembering the human traffickers once they were found.
Wang Miaomiao turned to leave, seeking an old aunt to ask for directions to the armed forces department and post office.
She hurried to the armed forces department with the intention to report, just in time to overhear the conversation of two people walking towards her.
"You were too careless, letting a woman hold you. Fortunately, I was there today; otherwise, who knows how it would’ve ended..." said an armed forces officer, chiding and warning the man beside him, "Get your leader to be more cautious; don’t provoke those you shouldn’t. If trouble arises, I can’t help you."
"Yes, yes, yes..." The man nodded and bowed repeatedly, fawning as he said, "I’m really thankful for you, Captain Qin. I’ll head back now. I’m not sure how things are at the circus, I need to hurry back and report."
"Alright, beat it." Captain Qin looked at him in disdain, waving his hand to dismiss him.
The man continued nodding and bowing, retreating a few steps before turning to leave.
Captain Qin didn’t see it, but Wang Miaomiao, from her angle, saw the man’s face instantly change, reflecting scorn and ferocity.
Two-faced before people, completely different behind their backs, performed to perfection.
"What are you here for?" Captain Qin, seeing Wang Miaomiao standing there motionlessly, looked at her inquisitively.
Wang Miaomiao blushed instantly, stammering as though extremely embarrassed, softly saying, "I... came to borrow a restroom, didn’t know..." portraying a shy and bashful little girl vividly.
"Isn’t there a public restroom outside?" Captain Qin casually added.
Wang Miaomiao nervously twisted the edge of her clothes, "That one... is too dirty, and... it’s open-air..." 𝕗𝕣𝐞𝐞𝘄𝐞𝚋𝚗𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗹.𝚌𝕠𝚖
"Alright, hurry up, over there..." Captain Qin didn’t make things difficult for her.
"Thank you..." Wang Miaomiao quickly expressed gratitude, then dashed towards the restroom as if in a hurry.
Once in the restroom, Wang Miaomiao patted her heart, still frazzled. That was too close.
Luckily, she had visited the town’s public restroom before, sparing her from not being able to cover her lie.
She had overheard mention of the circus, realizing the man was the one who bullied Luan Qian, not expecting his collusion with Captain Qin—this was troublesome.
Reporting the case seemed impossible, but fortunately, she caught some of the conversation, avoiding walking into a trap or alerting them prematurely.
After waiting a while in the restroom, Wang Miaomiao calmly exited, observing everything around her before leaving the armed forces.
Then she headed straight to the post office, dialing the military. She briefly explained the situation, receiving orders from Instructor Zhu to observe without acting rashly.
Knowing she had made contact, a weight lifted from Wang Miaomiao’s heart. With backup, she felt less worried.
Leaving the post office, Wang Miaomiao went directly to the alley.
Returning there, her companions were long gone. Wang Miaomiao was at a loss as to where to find them, circling the alley multiple times without any clues.
Thinking it over, she decided to check out the circus’s location.
Upon her arrival at the circus, she saw Wang Cuihua and her group also present.
The group was at the circus’s tent entrance discussing something, while she noticed the guard there watching them with what seemed like venomous eyes.
"Wang Cuihua, what are you discussing? Why aren’t you going in?" Wang Miaomiao casually walked over and greeted them.
"We were just about to enter, want to join us?" Wang Cuihua and her group stopped arguing upon seeing Wang Miaomiao, "Huh? Where’s Cheng Xue and Jiang Huilan?"
The three of them always moved together, how come they were separated today?
"We got separated. I’m looking for them," Wang Miaomiao said, her face troubled.
Wang Cuihua paused, realizing she guessed right, "Where did you get separated? We’ll help you find them."
"Great, thank you," Wang Miaomiao now had a smile on her face. She led them away from the circus’s grounds, then stopped to secretly observe if anyone suspicious followed.
"Wang Miaomiao? What’s going on?" Wang Cuihua, seeing her being so cautious, grew concerned too.
"Xue Yunyun went missing..." Wang Miaomiao’s face turned serious as she swiftly recounted the events, then asked them, "What were you discussing at the circus’s entrance? I noticed the guard looking at you maliciously."
Wang Cuihua paused awkwardly before saying, "We weren’t discussing much. We just didn’t have a consensus and were debating whether to go in and watch the circus or not..."
Wang Cuihua really felt embarrassed explaining, since the reason was quite shameful.
Seeing this, Wang Miaomiao didn’t pursue further and only said, "The circus isn’t safe. Would you mind standing guard here until Instructor Zhu arrives? I want to go out and keep looking for them..."
Wang Miaomiao was deeply worried for those three days, looking at Wang Cuihua with a hint of pleading.
Wang Cuihua didn’t put on airs, nodding immediately, "I’ll accompany you to find them; you four watch here, okay?"
Wang Cuihua looked at the four members, all of whom nodded. They were all from the same unit, same dorm, relationships were built up over a month, nobody wished to see someone who was alright at departure face trouble.
