Temporary bride for the demon overlord-Chapter 20: Infiltrating the palace
Chapter 20 - Infiltrating the palace
Alphonse found himself hoping there'll be lesser securities to bypass.
He cursed himself fervently for the amateurish mistake he had made. Why did he think Azalea was going to tell him what's going on?
It just shows how much things have progressed. He stopped by a hut, exhaling a relieved sigh.
This was an enclosed space he'd once made when he was really young.
He entered the hut and the interior was cosy and comfortable. The couch and blankets were just like he had left them one hundred years ago.
He waved his finger and swept up the dust in the room. He really can't abide with untidiness.
A cup of strong tea later, he contemplated on his options. One of which left a sour taste in his mouth.

But it was the far safer option.
He flicked his wrist three times and closed his eyes. He silently mouthed the summoning spell.
In the next minute, the air shimmered to revealed a very annoyed creature.
"I knew it!" It cawed.
Alphonse smiled at it. His weak attempt to be civil. Considering that the last summon had not ended well.
"Yes, well. Good day to you too. I trust you've been well."
The creature snorted with derision.
"You ensured that wouldn't be the case now, haven't you? Now that you've summon me."
"Would you like a cup of tea?" He offered.
"Very much. I'd like to throw it on your face." He cackled loudly.
"If wishes were horse," Alphonse smiled. "Beggars could ride." He poured the tea and handed it to him.
Marlutz was a binded servant whose years of service to him remained quite a bit. As long as his lifespan.
It was a deal made my Marlutz's grandfather. A beneficial relationship between a demon overlord and a lesser being.
Marlutz drank the tea grudgingly and promptly spat it out.
"It's so hot," he glared at him.
Alphonse smirked, "I never said it wasn't."
"Very well." Marlutz dropped the dainty china cup with a clack, splattering tea all over the floor.
His eyes gleamed malicious as he watched with glee when Alphonse gripped the chair.
He couldn't do anything to inconvenience his owner...physically. Doesn't mean he wouldn't try psychologically.
Alphonse took a deep breath and smiled. It was a smile that raise the hair on Marlutz's nape.
Alphonse eased his white knuckled grip and placed his hand inside his pocket.
"What would Master like me to do for him?" he glowered.
"I'm glad we're reaching a conclusion so soon."
"Of course you'll be. Rat faced." Marlutz murmured.
Alphonse pretended not to hear what he said.
"I need you to infiltrate the palace." He dropped the bomb.
Marlutz jumped from the chair and wailed. He clutched his dragon leather jacket to his chest and trembled violently.
"Ma...master should rethink," he shuddered.
Alphonse's brows furrowed with thought. Marlutz was scared of infiltrating the palace?
Creatures of his league were very good with disguise and they were really stealthy too. They prided themselves on their ability to survive even in the most hostile environment.
Alphonse sent a subtle wave of soothing energy to him. Marlutz sat down tentatively, eyeing Alphonse.
"It's not going to be easy, I know." He began.
Marlutz jumped again.
"It's not going to be easy? Marlutz wonders if master's brain is really where it's supposed to be. Marlutz thinks master has been affected from living in the human realm for long. Marlutz thinks..."
"Quiet!" Alphonse yelled.
Marlutz whimpered, clutching his chest. He bit down on his lips hard.
"You were created for this purpose. You were trained by the very best."
Marlutz preened a little from the praise. He scoffed.
"I am the best there is."
"Exactly. If you're the best, you'll surely be able to do it."
Marlutz gulped.
"What exactly are you scared of?" He asked.
Marlutz glare matched his master's own in intensity. He seem to deflate and puffed out a breath.
"Everything."
"I thought as much. Well, I guess we'll have to find another person for the job." Alphonse said forlornly.
"I mean, it's easy to find someone for the Job really. Only there's no one as good as you. But if you won't take the Job, what choice do I have left?"
Alphonse sighed theatrically, patting his face.
"Oh sorrows. Sorrows. What am I to do now?"
"Stupid stupid master." Marlutz said under his breath.
"Fine!" He wailed. "I'll do it."
He speared Alphonse a resentful glare. They both knew Alphonse was simply goading him until he was frustrated.
It was considered an insult if one's master wasn't satisfied with their services. If he had to solicit help from creature of the same kind as the servant.
Alphonse was well aware of this. And Marlutz was nothing if not a stickler for rules.
"Very well master. What do I need to do." Was his baleful words accompanied with a sulky smile.
Alphonse gave a benevolent smile.
"It's nothing complicated really. I just need every strange occurrence reported to me."
Marlutz looked at his master with pity. Who would have thought such an intelligent child with sharp mind would turn into....this.
"And how will I do that? Isn't the palace refered to the place of anomalies?" He said pityingly.
"Exactly. Which is why I already have a list of things you should consider as strange."
He handed a small paper to him.
Marlutz scanned the paper with resentment. He wanted to burn the offensive thing.
"Oh shoot. I've forgotten you can't read," Alphonse said with a smile.
That Rat! He hadn't forgotten about his illiteracy. He only wanted to torture him a little.
Marlutz sniffed disdainfully at the paper.
"Like I said, you'll have lots of help. I have a large connection of spies you see. But you'll particularly be working with one."
"How would I know?" Marlutz asked sulkingly.
"When the time is right, you'll definitely know." Again, that scary smile that makes Marlutz shiver.
"You may go now." Alphonse dismissed.
"Maste
r, may I suggest something?" Marlutz added timidly.
Alphonse nodded expectantly.
"I really think you should invest in therapy. You really need it." He disappeared with a sharp crack before his master could incinerate him with a look.
