Chapter 247: We won’t be coming tonight...

Lucius POV

"We did it," Emilia said softly "We rescued Luna Selene,".

I nodded, allowing myself a small smile. "We did and you are the perfect person I should always fight with. We were in so much synchronization that I shouldn’t have wasted my time talking,".

The sun dipped low, casing a warm glow through the windows in the abandoned warehouse. I broke the kiss and stood close, my fingers lightly grazing Emilia’s cheeks.

"You don’t know how much I’ve wanted to do that," it was meant to be a thought but it came out before I could stop it.

"And me too," Emilia giggled "I lie awake every night craving your touch, Lucius. Why didn’t you ever reach out? You know we had so much fun back and now..." she sighed.

"I’m sorry," I whispered as I slowly lifted a hand to brush a stray lock of hair from her face, our eyes met and held. "I didn’t want to make things complicated and then I had a job to do. Being a Beta is very demanding,".

Emilia’s breath hitched slightly as she came closer to me. "I know that," she said "But Betas are allowed to love. To start a family and to be in love. You would make a great dad, Lucius and this is not me, trying to throw in a marriage proposal. We’re fated together, you shouldn’t fight it,".

"The moon goddess is clearly insane. How can I be fated to two people at the same time? That doesn’t sound normal and now..." I tilted her head, my lips barely brushing against hers. "Enough of all this talk, more action,".

Emilia responded by closing the gap, and our lips met in a kiss that was soft, slow and full of emotion, different from the first one we shared. My hands ran through her body, kneading, touching... I wanted to hold back, but I couldn’t. Her scent filled my nostrils, driving me crazy.

I reached for the hem of her shirt and we both paused as she raised her hand, assisting me to remove the shirt. We discarded it somewhere. Soon, other parts of our clothing joined the heap on the ground.

I captured her big, nipples, running my tongue around the nub, loving the way she moaned into my ears. Unable to hold on longer, I carried her in my arms and settled her just above my length.

"It’s a good thing, you’re all bones and flesh," I teased "Else we would have to do it on this dirty floor,".

She giggled as she slowly shifted her body. Soon, I was inside her. She moaned and threw her head backwards. I wanted to take it slow, and nice... to savour this moment but the caution flew with the wind as I felt herself squeeze around me.

The mate bond was crazy... I pounded into her as if my life depended on it, loving the way our bodies glistened with sweat as we drove each other to our peak.

A few moments later, we tried to fix our appearance as much as we could while I tried to look less guilty. While everyone was trying to set up and make us more comfortable, I was seeking my pleasure but it was worth it.

"You look guilty!" Emilia giggled "As if you just fucked the Luna and not your mate. You should fix it but I don’t mind if you ask me,".

"Whatever!" I rolled my eyes trying for a sterner look while Emilia continued watching me. Satisfied that I looked like myself, I held her hands and we started towards the door.

"So, when are we going to let everyone know that we’re mates?" Emilia asked softly. "I have a feeling that my father will be less angry with me when he discovers that I’ve actually found a mate and you can become the Alpha too... he’s dying to...".

"Does your father know that you have another mate aside from me?" I interrupted her with a deep sigh "Things are so complicated, Emilia. I’m still trying to wrap my head around all of this. It’s so confusing. You, me and the other person. I wish there was another way out,".

"I see you have not accepted it yet," she asked quietly.

"What’s there to accept? I don’t want to. I am not like that. It’s only you, I want and not the other person,". I retorted.

"The other person has a name," she giggled quietly. "You know, the other person did complain about you ignoring them no matter how much they try to get your attention,".

"I’ve been busy," I snapped "And while it might be easy for both of you... this is new to me. I’m still trying to adjust and I definitely don’t want to be with the other person. You should tell him that. By the way... you’ve been..." I paused and turned to her, feeling as jealousy grew in my heart as she sighed and rolled her eyes.

"Don’t blame me, Lucius. The other person is also my mate and you..." she sighed again "You were unavailable. I just had to make do with what I had,".

I swallowed my retort... if we continued talking about it, we might end up in another argument so I let the conversation drop. As we left the warehouse, I was surprised when I saw Kurtis barking some instructions to the men who had gone with him.

Suddenly, our eyes met and I saw his sharp eyes flit from me to Emilia and back to me again, followed by a curious expression crossing his face. He nodded to the last soldier and started walking towards us. However, as he neared us and before he could comment, we were interrupted by the arrival of the doctor who had been examining Selene.

The doctor’s face was grave as he approached us. "Beta Lucius, I’ve been searching all over the place for you,".

"Uh..." my cheeks stained with embarrassment. "I’m sorry. I was tending to something urgent,".

Emilia snickered beside me but I ignored her. "How is she?"

The doctor shook his head. "I have some concerning news – not bad news because we do not have the equipment here to rule it as one," he began, his voice low and serious. "Luna Selene is stable – exhausted, dehydrated but she’s already responding to treatment. But I’m having trouble with detecting the baby’s heartbeat,".

A collective gasp rippled through us but we quickly composed ourselves. I felt my heart sink, thinking of Noah and the anguish this news would bring him.

"What does that mean" Emilia asked, her voice trembling slightly.

The doctor sighed. "It’s possible that the stress of the kidnapping and rescue has affected the pregnancy. However, it’s not necessarily a bad thing. Thing like this happens all the time. You know the mother has been exposed to a lot of harshness and naturally, the antigens protecting the baby will make it invisible against harm until they feel the mother is fine. So, sometimes, in cases like this, the baby’s heartbeat will become difficult to detect but may stabilize given time and proper care,".

"So, you’re saying this might pass?" I asked.

The doctor nodded.

"What do you suggest?" Kurtis asked.

"I recommend that Luna Selene stays here overnight, where we can monitor her closely," the doctor replied. "We’ll keep her warm and comfortable and continue to check for the baby’s heartbeat. If there’s a chance to save the pregnancy, it will likely be within the next few hours,".

I nodded, my mind already racing with plans. "I’ll communicate with the Lycan King immediately and tell him the new development," Turning to Emilia I said. "Can you stay with her for a while? and Alpha," I turned to Kurtis "Can you create a roster of men that will take turns guarding the room she’s in. Not necessarily from outside but inside and we would need two females inside too,".

"On it!" Both of them responded in unison and walked off to carry the instructions.

I took in a ragged breath as I stared at Noah’s number on my phone. How was I going to break the news to him? I couldn’t just tell him that we wanted to rest without giving him an explanation, especially after promising him that we’d be coming tonight.

After a moment, I steeled myself and called him. He responded on the first ring.

"Your Majesty," I started quietly "I was calling to tell you that we won’t be coming tonight again. I apologize for raising your hopes high. It’s just that, something urgent came up and...". I trailed off, feeling my tongue grow heavy.

There was a pause on the other end of the line before his voice came on again.

"It’s Selene, isn’t it?" he said softly "What happened? Tell me".

"Well," I sighed softly "She’s fine and is responding to treatment. The doctor said she’s exhausted and dehydrated but the problem now is the baby. They couldn’t find the heartbeat but they say things like this are normal because she’s been through stress for a while. But, they want her to rest tonight and will keep monitoring her and the baby until tomorrow,".
