Tangled Hearts - The Alpha's Baby Mama-Chapter 216: His favorite daughter…
Chapter 216: His favorite daughter...
Xavier POV
"And that’s the problem right there," Lucius shook his head "This habit of yours is something that cannot be changed. If not anything, it’s one of the most difficult things to change. You don’t value people. Those around you, who slave every passing moment just to make sure that you’re alright, treat them like a piece of shit as if you’re the only one who deserves good things. That is why even though you were given a second chance, you blew it up,".
I shuddered shaking my head "That is not me, Lucius. I know you’re angry for reasons that are unclear to me but you cannot stand there and call me out like that when the only thing I’ve ever done was to you was to not be your mate. I’ve been everything; your friend, your brother...".
"And I’ve been sitting around doing nothing?" Lucius snapped "I don’t want to do this anymore...let’s just wrap whatever it is that we’re in Moon Whisper to do, when we go back to Greyhound, I’m taking that holiday,".
He turned and started towards the door. I felt disgruntled. Because all that has been done today was people shouting and screaming down at me. I didn’t deserve that but I couldn’t do anything, I just watched as he walked away. I stood there for a minute, trying to organize my thoughts when a servant knocked and came in.
"Alpha!" the servant said gently "Word from the pack house... Your father is around and is looking for you. He said you must meet him at Moon Whisper urgently,".
I slumped my shoulders, wishing I could tell the servant to go back to whoever had sent him and tell him I was nowhere to be found. I was tired. Physically and mentally exhausted, I wasn’t in the mood to face my dad. I didn’t know why he wanted to see me suddenly.
"Did something happen?" I asked looking at the servant, trying to read his expression.
"I wouldn’t know, Alpha," he replied with a blank stare "I am the messenger here,".
"Okay!" I nodded and rose to my feet; thoughts of Selene and the girls filled my mind as I started my journey back to Moon Whisper. Was Lucius, right? Did I not care for anyone except myself? But I love the girls so much... knowing that they were my kids was a miracle for me because nothing could have prepared me for fatherhood.
Back when Selene was yet to be married to Noah, I always used to think that they wouldn’t be able to stay together. I will convince myself each day that Selene couldn’t be with another person, after all, I was her fated mate and we shared the same fate, so there was just no way she would be someone else’s. That was what I convinced myself... At least because I know she didn’t love him from the get-go but seeing both of them hit it off as if being together was the most natural thing...
I was beginning to have my doubts. What was worse, my Wolf seemed to have gone quiet these days. I could no longer feel him.
When I arrived at Moon Whisper, I was surprised that I was admitted straightway. I had thought that Noah would have given strict rules for me not to be let into the Pack. I walked towards the main building. As soon as I got to the hallway, I picked up my father’s scent. Following it, I stopped with surprise when I saw my normally composed father pacing the hallway like a caged beast.
Worry and furry was etched into every line of his face and he had two guards standing sentry behind him watching him. I was guessing he was trying to create a nuisance for Noah since the guards were Noah’s special security team. The moment our eyes met, he rushed towards me.
"Where were you?" he demanded, his eyes blazing with annoyance as he gripped my shoulders. "They arrested your mother. What did you even do to salvage the situation? She’s the daughter of the Grand Lycan, why is she in prison,".
"She’s not in prison dad," I shook my head "It’s a house arrest!"
"So, I heard but this morning, she was sent there and we’ve got to take her out. You don’t understand, they weren’t supposed to... not the prison. It will only make things worse!"
My brows furrowed with confusion as I stared at my father. "What are you talking about? I met Grandpa yesterday and he confirmed that Noah was under house arrest and that the first trial would be next week. Are you sure about what you’re talking about?"
The place crackled with tension as my father’s eyes bore into me. "I don’t have time for jokes, Xavier. I am too old for that and there’s no time," he hissed. "I’ve tried to see the King several times but they won’t grant me passage. I must have offended him someone because now he won’t listen to me. So, you have to seek an audience with him. Tell him to take her back to the house if he must arrest her,".
My heart sank as I shook my head at my father "Noah, the last time I was here made me swear never to return to the pack and he wasn’t happy when he saw I had come anyway. It’s hopeless, Father," I murmured "He doesn’t want anything to do with me and I don’t want to force it. I’m lucky that I’m yet to be punished. If I go to his presence now, I don’t know what will become of me,".
"You must do something, Xavier," my father said desperately, "How about your mate, Selene... she could ask him to see us for a few minutes right? Since both of you are co-parenting anyways, she won’t be able to turn you down,".
"I don’t think so!" I shook my head "The girls were with me for the summer break and somehow, I ended up losing them, not knowing it was mom who took them. She wanted to broker some sort of deal with Noah but it failed. It’s a whole lot of story but in the end, she harmed Noah and made him stay in the hospital and now Selene found out about the girls and asked me never to see them again nor come an inch close to them. So, I doubt she’d want to see me or help me,".
"She cannot tell you to do that. The kids are yours... so you can’t stay away from their lives completely. Find a way, Xavier... I tell you; you must find a way or else, I’ll not be responsible for whatever happens,".
My mind raced, struggling to process the whirlwind of information my father was dumping on me. His panic was unsettling – I’d never seen a man so dishevelled, so afraid.
"Dad!" I said forcing my voice to remain steady "You must tell me what’s happening. Why do you want Mom removed from the prison and taken back to the house? What has she done or rather, what will she do?"
My father’s eyes darted around the hallway and to the soldiers standing a little distance away from us as if he was afraid, they would hear what he was about to say. He lowered his voice to a whisper.
"This is not about what she has done, it is what she will do. Your mother...when enraged or anxious, she loses control over her Lycan. She’s one of the strongest warriors around here. The last time she was in a similar situation, it didn’t end well. She needs her space... all the time. She’ll fall ill too,".
A chill ran down my spine. "Don’t tell me she killed more people after murdering Selene’s parents? I thought you said she used someone... what are you talking about?"
"I can’t say more here!" he hissed "But listen carefully. There’s a hidden passage in the old library just behind the new one here in the pack, there’s a door at the wall that leads directly to the prison, see if you can break her out. I know there will be consequences but it’ll be for the greater good. She’s dangerous when she’s put in situations like this. That’s why I always try to calm her down when she’s riled up and from today henceforth, you need to take your children’s security stronger because she will not forgive,".
"Dad!" I whined, "You’re making her sound like a murderer!"
He didn’t say anything, he simply lowered his gaze as he resumed pacing. After a while, he came back to where I was standing. "I’m sure the grand Lycan would be able to help us. He’s our only hope now," he suggested.
"Why didn’t you ask him all this while?" I gave him a perplexed look, I’m sure Grandpa will not sit idly and watch this thing happen. She’s his favorite daughter..." I laughed.
Not anymore!"
