Chapter 214: This was the peace I’d been chasing after for years...

Selene POV

"Right!" I chuckled leaning deeper into him. "Thank you for everything, Noah! I mean it,".

He nodded and kissed the top of my head. I wanted to tell him about the decision I’ve reached regarding the Office of the Luna but he was in a good mood and I was too. So, I didn’t want to ruin it. The ride back to the pack house was quiet. We were both wrapped in our thoughts but for me, I was sleeping more than I was thinking.

These days, I could fall asleep anywhere when I wasn’t eating like a horse. When we arrived at the pack house, Noah guided a sleepy me to his bedroom, I fell on the bed immediately and slipped into a peaceful sleep.

The sun had risen big and beautiful in the sky when my eyes finally fluttered open. Stretching and yawning, I turned and saw a sleeping Noah beside me. His eyes were shut firmly, one had been thrown lazily over his face and the other holding my hands. His colour had returned a bit... better than yesterday and he looked pale.

I leaned towards him and dropped a kiss on his lips before I pushed myself to the edge of the bed. Stretching one last time, I headed for the bathroom. A few minutes later, I had showered and dressed ready to start my day. Noah was still sleeping, I adjusted the blanket over him before slipping out of the room, towards the kitchen.

On my way to the kitchen, I passed by the girls’ bedroom and they were still fast asleep. It was 8 am though but it was fine. I’ll just let them sleep in today. Moving on, I continued towards the kitchen. As soon as I entered, I noticed a lot of the staff were lounging quietly. Some of them were dozing off at a corner, only a handful were busy. As soon as they saw me, they all turned to me with fear in their eyes.

"Your Majesty!" they greeted.

’Good morning, everyone," I said with a bright smile "Sorry, I came in without prior notice but today, I want to make breakfast for his majesty. Can I get two people to help me prep the ingredients? I will also be making something for the girls and also lunch for later on,".

They exchanged known looks before one of them approached me, uncertainty in his eyes. "I’m sorry, Your Majesty but we cannot allow you next to the fire. The king will have our heads if he hears that you’re here. Why don’t you tell us what exactly you have in mind to make and I promise we will make it just as you want,".

"Well, I would have accepted your help but honestly, I want to do this myself. The good news is, the King happens to be my mate, so before he kills you... I can convince him not to,".

"And I’m here!" Noah’s voice boomed from the door, making the Kitchen staff jerk with fear. "Why are you allowing my wife to cook? Do you want to be hanged?" he said coldly I could see the amused twitch in his jaw. So, I played along.

"They said we’re too demanding and that we should make the meal ourselves instead of stressing them out. What should we do honey?" I pouted "It seems they don’t like us,".

"It doesn’t matter now, baby... I’m here," he came up to me and wrapped me in his hands, planting a kiss on my lips. He pulled away for a few seconds, as his eyes hovered over my face. "You look so beautiful this morning, I love you so much,".

"I love you too," I said it easily, feeling it in every pore in my body. He leaned in again and we shared another kiss, this time around, it was long and sizzling. But for the awkward coughs from the kitchen staff, things were already getting heated. We pulled apart and I turned back to the kitchen counter while Noah hugged me from behind, settling his neck on my shoulders.

"The whole pack is going to be on fire today," he chuckled "They’ll talk endlessly about how unfit I am to be king because I kissed my wife in front of the kitchen staff and won’t let her go while she cooks,".

"Believe me, if they don’t gossip about this, I’m going to be worried," I replied with a warm chuckle. "Can someone grate carrots and cucumbers for me?"

Immediately, the kitchen came alive. I dished out instructions to the staff, which they ran around to do meticulously. I and Noah continued to talk, cook and make out at the slightest chance we had. Soon, our breakfast dishes were ready. We settled everything on the food cart, refusing help from the kitchen staff and then headed to the girls’ room to eat.

My heart swelled with joy at the scene in front of me. We were clad in simple loungewear, walking through the corridors of our house, with a lot of laughter and joy in between. Suddenly, the pack house didn’t look as big as it was and the only person, I could see was the man in front of me.

Noah pressed the doorbell to the girls’ bedroom and yelled room delivery before opening the door. The girls squealed with delight at the sight of food and the delicious aroma that filtered into the room. As soon as they saw Noah, both of them jumped on his body, clasping his neck with their tiny hands.

"We missed you so much!" they chanted, pressing closer to him.

"I missed you too, my little munchkins," he smiled hugging them tightly. After a while, the girls’ leaned back. "We heard you were sick... are you fine now?"

"Fit as a horse!" Noah grinned "When I heard you girls were around, I knew I had to leave that damn hospital bed. My homegirls were around,".

The girls giggled with delight as he set them down. "Who’s hungry?" he asked, lowering the food cart so it turned into a mini-dining table.

The girls bellowed that they were. I just stood there watching them, surprised that the girls weren’t looking at me. It was as if I didn’t exist at all and it was fine. I watched as they chatted happily to Noah, telling him about Greyhound and Maeve was narrating how Vina fell in love with a boy who bought her sweets. Noah’s reaction when Maeve mentioned a boy was hilarious, it made the girls giggle but they continued telling the story. I settled at the opposite end of the table watching them, my heart bursting with joy. Noah was heaping food onto their plates and they were feeding each other simultaneously.

Noah will feed the girls with both of his hands, in turn, they will feed him. Suddenly, Maeve looked over to where I was, a mischievous smile dancing in her eyes.

"Mummy, are you jealous?" she asked.

"Yes!" I feigned anger "Watch it young lady, I’m not sure how long I can endure this,".

The girls giggled and Vina leaned forward and asked me with a whisper. "Have you told him yet?" her gaze strayed to my stomach; she was talking about my pregnancy.

My eyes met with Noah for a few seconds, he understood what she was trying to say, so he shook his head. "No!" I whispered back "I was waiting for the best time and for all of us to be here,".

"Great!" Vina nodded, excitement filling her eyes "Can we do the announcement for you?"

"Sure!" I nodded giving her a thumbs up. She turned to Maeve and winked. The girls giggled mischievously again and excused themselves, asking us to wait and that they would be right back. When they left the room, Noah turned to me "What are they up to now?’ he asked.

"I have no idea," I laughed "But you should put on a big show about just finding out that I am pregnant,".

"Don’t worry about me!" he winked. On cue, the girls returned to the room, holding cardboard. They rush towards Noah and wore him a party hat and then a bib that read ’Father to be’ instructing him not to look at it yet.

After they were done, they stood in front of us, with the cardboard. Maeve held the cardboards that had images that represented us and Vina held the cardboards that held the explanation. They started with how they were born and how Noah was a great dad, supportive and kind. Next, they moved on to how families grow and... at the cardboard that had a baby, Vina produced a write-up that said, ’We’re having another baby’.

Noah squealed with delight as he jumped up and hugged the girls first before he came to me. His eyes crinkled with smiles as he did a little dance with me and then the girls. They had decorative sprinkles and began sprinkling them all over the room, then they asked Noah to read the inscription on the bib.

I watched as they jumped around the room, the girls arguing that they wanted the baby to be a boy and Noah insisting that he wanted a girl. For the first time in a long while, I understood what home meant and what it felt like.

This was the peace I’d been chasing after for years... but how long before it vanishes... how long?
