Chapter 490: Ch 490: PLM (4): The Golden Door

"What is this thing?"

Fritz also stepped forward and carefully observed the token, but he could not find anything special about it. In the end, he could not help but ask, hoping Alex might know something. Unfortunately, Alex also had no idea.

If he had succeeded in replicating the token, he would have been able to obtain information about it. After all, his talent only allowed him to learn the details of a treasure after a successful replication.

"I don’t know," Alex shook his head, but his gaze never left the token.

After all, this token had appeared from a strange vortex directly inside his spaceship, bypassing all of the ship’s security systems and protective barriers. That alone proved that it was anything but ordinary.

Suddenly, the platinum token in Alex’s hand began to tremble.

At first, it was very slight, almost impossible to notice. But in the next moment, a terrifying force burst out from the token without any warning.

Boom!

A mighty pressure filled the entire spaceship. The air shook violently, and even space itself seemed to bend. The metal floor groaned under the pressure, and cracks spread everywhere. 𝗳𝚛𝗲𝕖𝕨𝕖𝗯𝚗𝚘𝕧𝕖𝗹.𝗰𝗼𝕞

Alex’s pupils shrank, and his heart skipped a beat. In that moment, he felt an irresistible force binding his body. No matter how hard he tried, he was unable to move.

It was not just Alex; even Fritz felt the same. In fact, he felt it even more clearly. His legs trembled, and cold sweat covered his back. He felt as if an invisible mountain was pressing down on his body and soul at the same time.

Their expressions turned extremely serious, and for a moment, fear of the unknown filled their eyes.

Fortunately, the force did not spread outward endlessly. Instead, after erupting for a brief moment, it suddenly began to shrink. All that terrifying energy started gathering toward a single point in front of them. Simultaneously, the pressure became sharper and denser. It felt like the calm before a disaster.

Then, right before their eyes, the converged energy slowly took shape and transformed into a golden door.

Well, more accurately, it transformed into the shape of a golden door.

A tall, rectangular frame formed in the air. The frame was made of pure golden light. Strangely, Alex and Fritz could see countless runes flowing within that golden light, as if the light itself were a vast river.

Moreover, they felt an aura of supreme authority coming from the door. A strange attraction filled their hearts. For some unknown reason, they suddenly had a weird sensation, as if walking through that door could fulfill their every wish. An irresistible feeling rose within them that anything they desired could become reality, as long as they stepped inside.

In that moment, both their hearts and souls desired nothing more than to step through the door.

Nevertheless, first, Alex’s willpower was strong enough to resist that desire. And secondly, both he and Fritz were unable to move for the time being. So, even if they wanted to, they were unable to enter the golden door.

Coming back to the framework of the mysterious door, although the outer rectangular frame of the door appeared to be made of golden light, the center of the door was completely empty. There was no wood, metal, or any barrier to open at all. If there was anything, then it was only darkness. Additionally, this darkness appeared to be endless, which can swallow light itself.

When the door materialized completely, Alex and Fritz felt the force bounding them disappear.

Both of them took a deep breath and then shifted their attention back to the door.

"Alex... what is that thing?"

"I don’t know."

They both fell silent for a moment.

"I feel like there’s an opportunity inside, waiting for me to grab. This feeling is simply too tempting. I think I should go in and take a look." Fritz said hesitantly.

Since Alex was having the same sensation as well, he was not surprised that Fritz could also feel that an opportunity was waiting for them past the golden door. Furthermore, that opportunity is something that can fulfil their every wish.

It’s just that he couldn’t understand what kind of opportunity could actually fulfill a person’s every wish.

Is there truly something like that in this universe?

Alex looked at the golden door again and felt clearly that this door definitely did not appear by accident. It was as if he was fated, or there was something about him that attracted the platinum token, causing the token to appear before him.

It’s just that he couldn’t understand what could attract that token to him.

"Actually, I also think we should enter. If whatever is inside can truly fulfill my every wish, then perhaps..."

Alex didn’t complete his sentence. He just looked at Alicia’s body on the floor, and Fritz understood everything.

Fritz immediately nodded, "Exactly. What’s more, my instincts are screaming at me, telling me to hurry up. Otherwise, this door might disappear. And if that truly happens, we’ll lose our opportunities forever. Not to mention, we may never know why this door suddenly appeared before us."

"Same," Alex nodded, for his instincts were also roaring at him.

Alex turned around again and looked at Alicia lying on the floor. Pain flashed through his eyes. Then he took a deep breath and carefully lifted her body. "Let’s go. I’ll put her inside my spatial ring first, and then we can look at the opportunity behind that door."

"Hmm," Fritz nodded, but then, he was stunned.

It’s not because something bizarre happened again. It’s because he saw Alex trying to put Alicia’s body inside his spatial ring, but he was unable to. He failed in storing Alicia’s body.

"This..."

Alex froze, and something clicked in his mind. But he didn’t dare to believe it just yet. Instead, he hurriedly tried again.

But again, nothing happened.

Alex slowly looked down at Alicia, and his expression changed sharply.

Why?

Because every being in the universe knows that only living beings cannot be stored inside a spatial ring.

This only meant that Alicia was not completely dead. She was either standing at the very edge of death or trapped in a state that was almost the same as death, but not truly death.

Alex’s hands trembled slightly. For a moment, hope and fear mixed together in his heart. Tears appeared in his eyes again, but he hurriedly wiped them off. Then he took Alicia’s body in his hands and stood up.

Turning to Fritz, he said with a smile that was filled with a lot of emotion, "We’re going in."

With that, he stepped toward the golden door before entering.

Fritz stood there for a few more seconds before an excited expression returned to his face. He felt incredibly happy, nodded sharply, and then walked to the door before stopping. Then he turned to take a last look at the spaceship, which was severely damaged due to the appearance and materialization of the golden door.

Deeply breathing, he also entered the door and disappeared into the darkness.

The moment they touched the darkness within the golden frame, the world around them shattered into silence. They felt a suction force that was actually not uncomfortable at all. When light returned, their jaws dropped in astonishment.
