Chapter 47: Class Evolution & Its Comprehension

[Your comprehension of *Dark Evolution* has significantly increased!]

[Your comprehension of *Dark Evolution* has significantly increased!]

The notifications came faster now, but Damon couldn’t hear any of them. His entire focus was locked on understanding the mechanism behind it, not just watching it happen, but comprehending how exactly it did happen.

Countless questions began to flare up in his head. Why did the threads break where they did? What did the different patterns mean? Why were some threads broken while others were replaced?

He didn’t have an answer to any of these questions, not yet. But there was a logic to it, that much he was certain of.

Suddenly, an idea began to form in his head.

’If I can understand what makes the class evolve... could I-’

The thought froze mid-formation as the idea sounded too ridiculous to even think about. Yet still... he couldn’t help but wonder.

’Could I apply that knowledge myself?’

More than that, his thoughts turned even more ambitious.

’...Could it be applied to other classes?’

Just then, the final threads of the Dark Sorcerer class shattered.

For a split second, there was nothing, just empty space where a class used to be, like a gap in reality, or whatever that place was, itself.

Then, new threads exploded into existence.

They wove themselves together with impossible speed, forming patterns far more complex than before. Where Dark Sorcerer had been a simple lattice, this new structure was a tapestry. Layered and intricate, with threads that seemed to pulse with deeper power.

And Damon wasn’t just a spectator in it all.

Every thread’s purpose. Every connection’s meaning. Every rule that defined what his class could become. It was all laid bare before his consciousness, and Absolute Comprehension consumed it all

’This is...’

The moment the structure solidified, the new class locked into place. He didn’t have to check the system to know it was already there.

And at that moment, his consciousness returned to the present, just as few more notifications rang loudly through his head.

[Your comprehension of *Dark Evolution* is now complete!]

[Your class has evolved!]

[Dark Sorcerer -> Warlock of Darkness]

Damon forced in a sharp breath, his chest tightening as the weight of what he’d just seen crashed into him.

What followed was a moment of disorientation, before his eyes finally managed to look around the apartment, and he noticed Kitsune sitting on the edge of the bed.

Her crimson eyes stared at him with something that resembled... awe?

"Damon..." she whispered as she realised he was back in the present. She paused for a moment before asking. "What happened?"

While he was comprehending the class evolution, the connection between him and Kitsune seemed to have faltered as she was unable to read any of his thoughts. There was nothing but void when she tried, emptiness that she hadn’t experienced before.

He tried to answer, but his mind was still reeling from what he’d seen. The threads. The patterns. The fundamental structure of how classes worked.

Before he would answer any questions, he had to see the changes of that evolution, just to confirm what he had experienced was there.

He summoned his status screen once more, focusing on the new lines of text.

His class evolved just as he saw it happen, and with it, he received a new ability.

Shadow Manipulation.

Damon could immediately feel the connection, just as he did with his Ice or Corrosion ability.

Without leaving the ability’s function to guesswork, he wasted no time reaching for that very connection.

He stretched his arm toward a nearby wall and focused on the ability, but as he did, nothing happened, at least not at first.

"No..." Kitsune suddenly murmured before stepping closer toward him.

Her slender hands trailed across his body with a touch as soft as silk, but what that touch brought was far from soft. The mana inside of his body obeyed her every move, where her fingers went, the mana followed.

"Not all abilities are the same," She began to explain, leaning closer to his ear as she continued to weave his mana. "Some can create, while others manipulate..." she began to explain.

’To think he found the ability of this strength so early...’ she thought to herself before shaking the thought away for later, focusing on guiding him.

"Your mana level is too low to make proper use of it, but here, have some of mine..."

Immediately, Damon felt a sudden rush of mana move toward him. Some of it was his, which Kitsune had been using this whole time, but some felt different, foreign.

Slowly, shadows began to engulf Damon’s entire body.

"Just like that," Kitsune began to slowly pull her hands away from him, letting him take control over the ability.

Damon quickly began to get a hang of the ability as his Absolute Comprehension fired up once more. He could see it, understand how his mana turned to pure darkness. The way shadows coated him, the way...

His gaze suddenly snapped to a nearby shadow, where the entrance door was. He could feel it, its presence was right there and now engulfed completely with shadows, it was within his reach.

’That’s it,’ Kitsune thought to herself right before Damon suddenly vanished from in front of her and reappeared next to the entrance door.

There was no disorientation in that step, no mistakes. The gap between him and the shadow meters away was nothing more than a step for his new ability.

As Damon’s mana ran out, the shadows vanished. But he didn’t dwell on that. Instead his lips curved into a smile at the new ability he created.

’Let’s call this a Shadow Step.’
