Chapter 242: Chapter 242: Malfunction

Because there are far too many students here, just to be safe, Moira Young bought a pair of sunglasses and a hat from the accessory store next door.

Evan Howard took Moira Young to the street by the main entrance of the art academy, where there were three fast-turnover stores, two of which were connected together.

All three shops were still open for business, and the agent took them for a tour. This agent was Evan Howard’s friend, Trent Solomon.

"All three are prime locations and ridiculously expensive. Evan Howard, you must be making big money!"

"You wouldn’t want me to bring you business?" Evan Howard teased.

"No one wants it more than I do." Trent Solomon looked at Moira Young, "Who is this?"

"My future business partner."

Moira Young pointed to the two connected shops in front, "I want to rent both of them."

"Renting both?" Evan Howard was dumbfounded; renting just one would already cost hundreds of thousands, let alone both?

"Yeah, I feel like these two combined are twice as big as that large art supplies store." Moira Young said, "The most important thing is that they’re duplexes with a second floor, which I really like."

Evan Howard swallowed hard; the money he borrowed plus his savings totaled just under a hundred thousand, but he couldn’t compare with Moira Young’s statement.

"Honestly, Moira, my funds aren’t sufficient." Evan Howard clarified.

Moira Young hadn’t considered this; she just thought Evan Howard had experience in running a store and was quite impressive to manage one by himself.

"How about this, I’ll contribute whatever I can, and we can split the profits proportionately." Evan Howard suggested.

"Alright, that’s fine." Moira Young’s mind was entirely focused on quickly renting these two stores.

"Let’s sign the contract now? I just want these two." Moira Young said to Trent Solomon.

Trent Solomon glanced at Evan Howard, "Really?"

Evan Howard was a bit puzzled and then looked at Moira Young.

Moira Young nodded and said sincerely, "Really."

"Alright, let’s sign the contract then..." Trent Solomon pulled out the contract.

"Although these two stores are operational, if they decide to move, it’s fast, and the boss won’t take anything. If you want, you can keep the items; if not, you can sell them, they’re all yours." Trent Solomon explained.

"Okay." Moira Young wasn’t paying much attention, just looking at the contract and then signing her name.

The combined annual rent for the two stores was 1.6 million, which was almost as expensive as Moira Young’s small apartment.

However, the high cost of prime locations here is justified, as it’s a university town surrounded by elementary and middle schools, with residential areas nearby.

"Okay, how would you like to pay, by card?" Trent Solomon signed the contract as well.

"If I can pay by card, then by card." Moira Young took out Julian Sinclair’s card.

Trent Solomon looked at it; it was the first time he’d seen such a card with only a string of English letters and no numbers.

"This card..." Trent Solomon was confused about whether the card was usable, "Is it a bank card or a credit card?"

Moira Young was stumped by the question; she didn’t know either...

"Try to swipe it..." Moira Young was a bit nervous; if it didn’t work, she’d have to go to the bank to withdraw money—116 million...

Trent Solomon tried and successfully swiped it, "It actually works, and it doesn’t even need a password. What a magical card!"

Moira Young didn’t answer; she carefully put the card away, "Could the shop be renovated in a few days?"

"It can start tomorrow, but selling the items might take a few days."

"I’ll find a way to transport them." Moira Young’s first thought was to send them to mountainous areas.

"Shall we start renovating tomorrow?" Moira Young looked at Evan Howard, "But I might not have much time; Boss Howard mainly needs to oversee it."

Evan Howard didn’t expect Moira Young’s soft-spoken demeanor to turn into such decisive action.

"Sure, I’ll oversee it, don’t worry."

Moira Young thought for a moment, "Do we need to hire a design company for the shop layout?"

"Since it’s rented, I wouldn’t recommend spending too much on renovations." Trent Solomon suggested.

Moira Young believed that if something was done, it should be done satisfactorily; otherwise, it would be meaningless.

"I’ll go back and take a look tonight, then decide." Moira Young noticed it was getting dark, and she needed to quickly return and find Butler Liu. 𝓯𝙧𝙚𝒆𝙬𝙚𝒃𝙣𝙤𝒗𝓮𝓵.𝙘𝙤𝙢

"I’ll head out now, Boss Howard, we’ll be in touch tonight."

With that, she hurriedly left.

Checking the time, it was still not Julian Sinclair’s off-duty hour. She returned to the Sinclair Group, this time not to find Julian Sinclair but Butler Liu.

She texted Butler Liu to come out of the office and waited for him in the café downstairs.

When Butler Liu came down, Moira Young got straight to the point, "Butler Liu, could you recommend someone who specializes in shop design?"

Butler Liu never asked many questions, "I can, Miss."

"I want to meet her now." Moira Young said, "Can you keep this matter confidential for now?"

"Of course, Miss." Butler Liu felt that since it was a minor issue, he could temporarily keep it secret for her.

"Thank you."

Butler Liu called a designer, who knew Moira Young and was already nervous upon sitting down.

"Miss, please carry on, I have things to handle."

"Alright, you can go ahead."

After Butler Liu left, it was just the designer and Moira Young.

"Could you help me design a shop? Like an art supplies and stationery store." Moira Young looked at him expectantly.

"Miss, what style are you looking for?" The designer couldn’t even make eye contact with Moira Young.

Moira Young took out her phone, showing the large store, "Similar to this, but not the same."

"Got it, with a hint of sophistication." The designer adjusted his glasses, "When do you plan to have it ready?"

"Tomorrow."

"..." The designer was baffled but didn’t dare speak.

"Is it too rushed?" Moira Young wasn’t aware that it might take a while.

"I’ll give you a phone number and address, you can contact him and visit the shop. Discuss the details with him." Moira Young wrote Evan Howard’s phone number for him.

"Okay..." The designer almost cried, wondering why Butler Liu chose him...

Moira Young felt the day went by quickly, renting a shop and finding a designer, all in one afternoon.

Thinking she was already at the Sinclair Group, she decided to wait and leave work with Julian Sinclair.

At this point, it was half an hour past the official end time, but quite a few people were still working overtime at the company.

Moira Young got into the elevator, which suddenly jolted midway, then the display lights went out!

The elevator malfunctioned!

A sudden fear overwhelmed Moira Young, as she was on the twentieth floor; if the elevator dropped, it was like falling from the twentieth floor!

Instinctively, she clung to the elevator wall and reached out to press the emergency call button.

"Hello, hello, can you hear me? The elevator has malfunctioned, please cling to the elevator wall and don’t move. We’ve sent someone for repairs." A fuzzy voice came from the speaker.

Cold sweat dripped from Moira Young’s forehead; her heart was beating faster, the only sound in the elevator was her heartbeat.

"Uncle..." Moira Young instinctively murmured, her eyes starting to redden.

Whenever she felt helpless, the only person she could think of was Julian Sinclair.

——

Julian Sinclair’s office.

Butler Liu received a message from the designer, saying they finished talking and Moira Young had entered the company.

Butler Liu checked the time; if Moira Young was looking for Julian Sinclair, she should’ve arrived already.

"Is Moira home yet?" Julian Sinclair casually asked.

"Sir, Miss Moira is at the company, but I don’t know where." Butler Liu replied.

Julian Sinclair paused, raising his eyebrows, wondering what she was up to again.

"Sir, should we check where Miss is?"

Julian Sinclair initially thought it was unnecessary but then changed his mind, "Check."
