Chapter 76: What The Hell Are You Doing In My Bed? 76

His fingers tightened in her hair, tilting her head a bit more so he could deepen the kiss. His tongue swiped against her bottom lip, coaxing her to part them just a little more. And when she did—when she allowed him just the smallest opening—Enzo took it. His tongue slipped inside, tasting and teasing her.

Adeline let out a quiet, breathy moan, her hands lifting from her lap to clutch at the front of his shirt, gripping the fabric.

That single sound sent a spark of heat racing through Enzo’s body.

He growled softly, his grip on her waist tightening, and his fingers digging in just enough to make her arch against him. His lips moved more hungrily against hers, drinking in every soft, fleeting moan she gave.

Fuck. If he wasn’t careful, he was going to lose himself entirely. But just then, Adeline suddenly broke the kiss, gasping for air.

Her chest rose and fell rapidly as she blinked at him, dazed and breathless. Her lips were slightly swollen from the intensity of their kiss, and god, Enzo had never seen anything more tempting in his entire life. He wanted to kiss her again. He wanted to kiss her all night.

He let his forehead rest against hers, letting them both catch their breath, because if they kept going, he wouldn’t be able to stop.

—----

The morning sunlight streamed in through the hotel window, cutting straight across Adeline’s face. She let out a sleepy groan, her lashes fluttering as she turned to the side, trying to escape the brightness. But the light was relentless, following her wherever she moved.

Frustrated, she buried her face into what she thought was her pillow. But the texture was off. It felt different. It was soft, but not as plush. Warm, yet firm. And it smelled distinctly familiar.

Her nose twitched as the scent of Enzo’s cologne filled her senses, snapping her eyes wide open. With her heart pounding, she slowly glanced down, only to see that her head was resting on Enzo’s chest, her arm draped over his waist.

He wasn’t supposed to be in her bed. In fact, he wasn’t even supposed to be near it. They had separate beds in the room—his was literally right there.

A scream tore from her throat as she jolted upright. Enzo stirred at the sudden noise, his face scrunching in sleepy irritation before his eyes lazily blinked open. He stretched his arms, letting out a long yawn before looking over at her with a half-asleep smile.

"Good morning."

Adeline ignored his greeting, her wide eyes locked onto him in horror. "What the hell are you doing in my bed?!" she demanded, pointing a shaky finger at him. Then, she whipped her head toward the other bed next to hers. "Shouldn’t you be over there?"

Enzo yawned again, running a hand through his disheveled hair before leaning back against the headboard. "You don’t remember what happened last night?"

Just then, her memories came flooding back into her mind like a dam had been broken. The way she had called him hot. The way she had pulled his hair loose. The way he had kissed her and how she had kissed him back. Their tongues tangled, and her body pressed against his. It was all so vivid. A strangled scream escaped her lips as she clutched her head.

Enzo winced, covering his ears.

"No, no, no, no, no!" Adeline murmured, reaching for the blanket that had been covering them both. She yanked it up and threw it over herself, rolling around until she was wrapped like a burrito, only her mortified face peeking out.

"What have I done?!" she wailed before dramatically throwing herself off the bed. She hit the floor with a soft thud and rolled from side to side. "Why?! Why did I have to kiss this dumbass?!"

Enzo sighed, shaking his head. He shifted to the edge of the bed, his long legs dangling over the side as he leaned forward, peering down at her.

Adeline suddenly sat up, still tangled in the blanket, and turned to him with wild eyes. "Did we—?" She paused, unable to even finish the sentence. Her body shivered at the thought.

He instantly knew what she meant and laughed, shaking his head. "Goodness, no. Relax, we didn’t have sex. It was just a kiss."

Adeline shivered again, her fingers tightening around the blanket. "Just a kiss...but with you. Of all people, it had to be you."

Enzo’s smile faltered slightly. He let out a long exhale, then swung his legs over the bed and stood up, towering over her. "Oh, come on. You act like I’m the most disgusting person on Earth. You kissed me back too, you know. If you didn’t want it, you could’ve pushed me away, and I would’ve stopped. But you didn’t."

"And let’s not forget, you were calling me hot and all that. Said I looked better with my hair down."

Adeline’s face burned as more memories resurfaced. With a choked noise, she yanked the blanket over her head, completely hiding herself from view. "I was drunk!" she cried out, rocking back and forth under the blanket. "That’s the only reason I said all that!"

He crouched down, lifting the edge of the blanket that covered her face. "But if you said that while drunk, doesn’t that mean you’ve always thought it?"

She blinked up at him, completely lost for words. He wasn’t wrong. She had thought about it before, more than once actually, but she had always shoved those thoughts away, refusing to acknowledge or admit them. Her pride wouldn’t let her.

Panic surged through her, and without thinking, she shot up, flailing her arms and screaming, "I’m doomed!" before turning and bolting for the bathroom, dragging the blanket behind her like a cape.

Enzo watched her go, rolling his eyes. "It was just a kiss!" he called after her, groaning as he let himself fall back into a sitting position on the floor. His back hit the bed, and he leaned his head against the mattress, running a hand down his face.
