Surviving in the Beast World with a System-Chapter 98: Up to No Good
Wu Yue snorted. "Taro."
"Congratulations, Host, on completing the mission: Discover a new food unknown to the Snow Tiger Tribe. 50 points have been awarded. Point balance: 50. Please continue your efforts and strive for greater success."
Wu Yue: "..."
’What the... damn system, I’m going to smash your stupid face in.’
Suddenly, an idea struck her. "Damn system, did you say the taro I just found contains a mild toxin?"
The sheepish system immediately piped up, "The newly discovered food, taro, cannot be eaten raw. Its sap contains a toxin that will cause painful, itchy skin on contact. Host, please cook it before consumption."
Wu Yue was immensely relieved, her gaze on the taro in her hand turning incredibly smug.
She shouted to the Beastman still walking ahead, "Yuan Lang."
The imposing Beastman heard her and turned around. "What is it?"
He scanned their surroundings with his deep-set eyes. Seeing no danger, he walked back toward Wu Yue.
Wu Yue chuckled, holding out the broken piece of taro to him. "Take a look at this."
Yuan Lang reached for it, but the small female unexpectedly grabbed his hand. "This root is poisonous. Grab the other side, where it’s not broken."
Her scrawny little hand could only wrap around four of his fingers, looking tiny in comparison.
Yuan Lang’s eyes darkened. "So this is the poisonous grass you found?"
Wu Yue raised an eyebrow. "It’s just to teach them a little lesson. The sap of this root contains a mild toxin. If you touch it directly, your skin will become unbearably itchy and painful. Isn’t that the perfect punishment for them?"
’Please say yes,’ Wu Yue screamed internally. ’If I have to keep looking, I’m going to blow my cover.’
Yuan Lang’s eyes lit up at her words, and he looked at the root in his hand with incredible satisfaction. "That’s perfect."
His dark eyes narrowed as he began to contemplate one hundred and eight ways to poison those females.
Wu Yue looked at the taro scattered on the ground, then squatted down and gathered them together.
Yuan Lang frowned at the sight. "Just grab two more. We won’t be able to use that many."
Wu Yue smiled at him. "The sap is only poisonous when the root is raw. Once it’s boiled or roasted, it’s actually a delicious food. We should take some back."
Yuan Lang looked at her. "If you take it back, my Amu will definitely find out. A new food source will cause a huge stir in the tribe. And you can’t keep the fact that raw taro is poisonous a secret, so wouldn’t Ye Duo and the others realize you were involved?"
Wu Yue frowned, her gaze falling on the small pile of taro. "Then let’s not make it public for now. We can wait until this whole thing blows over. But I still want to take some back to eat."
With that, she gave Yuan Lang a very smug look. "I did you a huge favor, so shouldn’t you help me carry some taro as a reward?"
Yuan Lang chuckled. "It’s just a bit of taro. Of course, that’s no problem."
With that, he squatted down, gathered the taro on the ground into Wu Yue’s small basket, and slung it onto his back.
He then held out his arm to her. "Come on, it’s about time we headed back. It’ll be late if we don’t go now."
When the two returned to the gathering point carrying a wild boar, they naturally caused quite a stir. The gazes some of the young females fixed on Yuan Lang grew even more fervent, making his scalp tingle.
By this time, the work of the two Collection Teams was nearly finished.
When Hua Shu saw them return, she sauntered over with a gleam in her eyes. She gave her own cub an unreadable look, but deep within her eyes was a faint, inexplicable trace of pity.
Yuan Lang: "..."
’Experience told him that this Amu of his was definitely up to no good.’
