Chapter 221: Breaking News

Not sparing strength, he propelled forward like a missile. The edge of Devil’s Tongue blurred as Michael swung the weapon full force.

Unfazed, the robot woman met him in kind. Her smile widened to an unnatural level, her arms turning into sharp blades fully intent on meeting his attack.

Boom!

A wind picked up from the force of the strike. The woman robot slid backwards a couple of centimeters from the sheer force, yet she remained whole, successfully blocking Michael’s slash.

[A human dares challenge me?]

She mused, reverting her left arm into a fist as she struck, intending to play with Michael.

He, of course, was able to perfectly see the trajectory arc of her strike thanks to Parallel Sight. However, because he wasn’t simply fighting but testing something, he didn’t dodge.

Raising his hand, he caught the full force of her attack. His muscles bulged in exertion, yet he managed to stop her fist in place.

’Interesting...’ His eyes narrowed, going all out.

Realizing that he hadn’t taken the fight seriously from the start, the smile was wiped from the woman’s face. She began to move with fluid motion, despite her robotic nature.

The dust that rose from their clash didn’t stop his teammates from observing the fight until its inevitable end. 𝗳𝚛𝗲𝕖𝕨𝕖𝗯𝚗𝚘𝕧𝕖𝗹.𝗰𝗼𝕞

When it became apparent that Michael had the upper hand and was about to render her powerless by cutting off her limbs, she drove her blade into her head, putting an end to her function. There was no hesitation in her movements whatsoever.

Thud!

Dropping to the ground, Michael noticed that she began to leak spiritual energy into the air. Almost like a living entity and not a simple machine.

To make matters more confusing, he used Devil’s Tongue to slice her in two. Unlike the mechas until now, there wasn’t a corpse of a human or an alien inside. Strangely enough, his action intensified the amount of spiritual energy she released into the air.

"Did you figure something out?" Victoria was the first to speak.

"Yes." He nodded solemnly.

"This robot is undoubtedly on par with a General tier alien."

"..."

Understandably, his claim left everybody speechless. It was one thing if the AIs had been able to create mechas that could harm Elites, but engineering machines that rivaled Generals? It was a literal apocalypse that was waiting to happen.

Not to mention that posed an even bigger question. If they are somehow able to reach the General tier, what stopped them from aiming even higher?

Robert, the Lord, too remained silent, though for an entirely different reason. He had observed the way Michael moved and fought. Despite being in the Late Master realm, it was undeniable he rivaled most Grandmasters, if not even surpassed them.

’It makes sense why they follow him.’ The man thought, heaving a sigh.

After a second he said.

"Livia won’t be one bit happy about this... But we must spread this information. Even with the havoc we risk creating."

The expressions of the squad twisted into grimaces, yet nobody argued. This couldn’t be considered a simple kidnapping incident anymore.

"I agree." Michael nodded. Trying to keep this under wraps would lead to bigger problems in the future.

Silently the crew headed back from where they had entered the illegally dug tunnels, Ruby rode on Cyberfang’s back in order to not slow down the others.

"L—Lord Robert is back!"

When they came out of the hole they had dug into the wall, they noticed that there was no trace of civilians in the metro, the place being filled with guards instead.

Considering that Robert had warned them something dangerous might come out from the hole he was entering, it naturally made the stationed guards raise an alarm for reinforcements.

"If I may ask, what happened?" An older gentleman, clearly the leader of the unit, asked.

Robert’s answer came swiftly.

"This place is dangerous. It is to remain sealed until further notice. I specifically forbid anyone from entering its depths, as there are dangerous entities still lurking in its depths. Call for more reinforcements and observe the place 24/7."

"We obey!"

Saluting in respect, the soldiers relayed the Lord’s order. Considering that most regarded Lords as deities, it would have been bizarre if there was disobedience to his order.

"It’s handy having a Lord in our ranks. Saves us a lot of time." Michael chuckled.

Robert arched an eyebrow.

’Most would regard me for my strength... Not to save them time.’

The more the Lord observed Michael, the more he came to the conclusion that there was something profoundly different about him, yet he wasn’t able to put his finger on what exactly.

Regardless, seeking to minimize any potential damage, they sought an audience with Livia once more.

The eyes of the Gothic-dressed woman visibly softened when she saw Robert return unscathed. Albeit they quickly turned somber when the threat was revealed to her.

Several seconds passed in silence. At the end, Livia’s shoulders drooped.

"I apologize, but I won’t be able to spread this information. Sadly, with the threat of the lava lake lurking in the heads of others, they have basically tied my hands. Every attempt I made to raise any kind of alarm was met with opposition from all sides, drowning out my voice."

With narrowed eyes, Ava glanced at Robert.

"You are a Lord, wouldn’t your word spread easily?"

He shrugged. "It will, but there is a limit to the influence of one man. The capital is large after all. It would take weeks if not months until I can warn every district there is."

Victoria leaned back in her chair. "Troublesome indeed."

Michael, however, was the only one that didn’t seem in a sour mood.

"So in simpler terms, we need somebody that knows how to create hot topics of discussion to spread the potential danger?"

Livia nodded. "Pretty much."

"Well then, I think I got us covered." Michael mused, staring at his communication device.

Just as promised, shortly after calling them over, the reporter duo, Skylar and Luis, had arrived at Venus, more specifically the capital, eager to record the next hot topic of decision.
