Supreme Dragon Lord-Chapter 163: Work without Effort!
Upon hearing Yan Chen’s words, the faces of the Heavenly Demon Sect disciples changed. They looked at one another, unsure of how to respond.
"Have you all gone mute?" Yan Chen demanded coldly.
"Reporting... reporting to the Sect Master," a man stepped forward, bracing himself. "That guy vanished without a trace. We’ve searched every corner of the Heavenly Demon Sect several times over, but we still haven’t found him." 𝗳𝚛𝗲𝕖𝕨𝕖𝗯𝚗𝚘𝕧𝕖𝗹.𝗰𝗼𝕞
"Useless!" Yan Chen flew into a towering rage. "Such a large group, and you can’t even find one person? What use do I have for any of you?"
"Sect Master, please calm your anger! We will do our utmost to find him!" the disciples hurriedly replied, growing exceedingly cautious. Their hearts pounded in their throats.
"Then what are you waiting for? Go find him!" Yan Chen bellowed. "When you do, I will tear him to pieces!"
His anger stemmed from the fact that the Heavenly Demon Sect’s Elixir Pills and herbs had been completely plundered. Even the materials he had long collected to refine Puppets were gone. How could he not be furious?
"Yes!" The disciples nodded repeatedly at Yan Chen’s command and sprang into action.
Watching the scene unfold, Long Chen felt a wave of relief.
That was close. If the Heavenly Demon Sect discovered I was behind all this, I probably wouldn’t have a chance to get out of here alive. Good thing I found a scapegoat!
While the disciples of the Heavenly Demon Sect scoured the grounds for the middle-aged man, Long Chen wandered leisurely through the sect’s interior.
"Can you feel your original body?" Long Chen asked Xia Duoduo.
"Inside the Heavenly Demon Sect, my connection to it is very strong," Xia Duoduo replied, sounding helpless. "But perhaps because of the Formation trapping me, I can’t determine its precise location."
"Alright then. We’ll just have to keep searching," Long Chen nodded, continuing his search for Xia Duoduo’s original body.
Just then, he noticed a squad of Heavenly Demon Sect disciples anxiously heading for the exit.
What’s this about? Long Chen wondered.
"What are you still standing there for?" a man in the lead demanded, glancing at Long Chen. "Didn’t you hear the summons? Hurry up and follow!"
Long Chen was momentarily startled. He glanced at their attire and realized the emblems on his own clothes were identical to theirs.
Perhaps this is the unique insignia for each squad in the Heavenly Demon Sect, each responsible for different tasks.
Thinking quickly, Long Chen explained, "I was searching for the traitor’s whereabouts, so I didn’t hear the summons."
The man stared coldly at him. "That’s an internal matter. Why are you meddling?"
Long Chen remained composed. "It was a direct order from the Sect Master. I didn’t dare disobey."
Hearing this, the man’s expression softened slightly. "Rejoin the squad. We’re heading out on a mission!"
"Yes!" Long Chen nodded and immediately fell in line.
Good, I didn’t expose myself or arouse any suspicion.
Rejoining the squad, Long Chen left the Heavenly Demon Sect with them.
"Brother, what mission are we on?" Long Chen quietly asked the person beside him.
The man replied, "Senior Brother Zhang Qian has set up an ambush for several disciples of the Sword Ancestor. We’re going as reinforcements."
"I see," Long Chen murmured to himself. Sword Ancestor? Now this is getting interesting.
About two kilometers from the Heavenly Demon Sect, the group of disciples arrived at a desolate, deathly still location. Upon their arrival, the squad leader immediately reported to a young man up ahead, "Senior Brother Zhang, we’re here."
The young man was Zhang Qian, one of the three Heaven’s Chosen of the Heavenly Demon Sect. Possessing great power and held in high esteem, he enjoyed a very high status within the sect.
Zhang Qian nodded. "Take your men and lie in wait nearby," he instructed. "The disciples from the Sword Ancestor will be here soon. As soon as they arrive, kill them all!"
"Understood!" the squad leader acknowledged and immediately sprang into action.
Long Chen watched the other disciples and pretended to follow suit.
Before long, a group of Sword Ancestor disciples slowly approached. Long Chen recognized a familiar figure at the front: Liu Mang, one of the Sword Ancestor’s three Heaven’s Chosen. Among the sect’s younger generation, his strength was ranked third. Trailing behind him were more than a dozen other disciples.
"The targets have appeared! Prepare to strike!" Zhang Qian commanded coldly.
At his command, the Heavenly Demon Sect disciples burst from their hiding places, charging toward the group from the Sword Ancestor. The Sword Ancestor disciples were momentarily stunned, none of them having expected an ambush.
Liu Mang’s brow furrowed. "It’s an ambush! Everyone, be careful!" he shouted.
"Today, all of you will become our spoils of war!" a Heavenly Demon Sect disciple jeered.
"Hahaha! Die!" another cackled.
"You’re all going to die!"
The Heavenly Demon Sect disciples stared at their counterparts like predators eyeing prey, their faces twisting with greed.
Liu Mang drew his Sharp Sword. "Fight!" he bellowed.
At his command, the expressions of the Sword Ancestor disciples hardened, their eyes filling with resolve. In the next instant, the two sides clashed.
THUD! THUD! THUD!
A series of dull impacts echoed through the area. Because the Heavenly Demon Sect had prepared the ambush, they held the upper hand. The Sword Ancestor members were immediately put at a disadvantage, and several of them were cut down in the initial exchange.
Meanwhile, Long Chen was simply putting on an act, contributing no real effort.
I have no intention of helping the Sword Ancestor. Then again, I won’t help the Heavenly Demon Sect attack them, either. This Demon Pursuit Conference is a three-way slaughterhouse. I’ll just watch for now. When the time is right, I’ll make my move.
"Brother Liu, if this continues, our situation will become critical!" a Sword Ancestor disciple cried out.
Liu Mang’s frown deepened. He stared fiercely at the battle, enraged. "Damn the Heavenly Demon Sect! Retreat!"
Hearing his order, the Sword Ancestor disciples began to pull back, trying to disengage.
But how could Zhang Qian let this opportunity slip by? He waved his hand decisively and ordered, "Pursue them! Wipe them out!"
The Heavenly Demon Sect disciples surged forward, cutting off their escape route.
Seeing that there was no way out, Liu Mang’s expression became extremely grave. He turned to face Zhang Qian, his gaze cold. "Since it has come to this," he declared, his voice deep, "we will fight to the death!"
