Chapter 1953: Chapter 2016: Meng Qingyou’s Fury

Wen Dagang slammed on the brakes, startling the passengers in the backseat into an outcry. Wen Dagang quickly turned around to apologize, then said into his phone, "Qingyou, what do you mean by that? Didn’t you leave early last night? The two of us drank till midnight before going home!"

"Damn it, don’t dawdle. Give me his number. I have to find him today. Hell, he dares to hit me! If I don’t strip him to the bone, I might as well change my surname!" Meng Qingyou furiously slammed his hand on the table.

Wen Dagang panicked; he had drunk too much last night and had no idea what happened. It was his wife who told him this morning that Li Yifei had hailed a cab for him last night and even reminded him to pay Li Yifei back for dinner. "You invited him for dinner, how could you let someone else pay?"

Wen Dagang originally wanted to call Li Yifei immediately to ask for his address so he could give him the money. But when a few passengers got on the bus, the matter was set aside. Besides, it was still too early, so Wen Dagang planned to call him around lunchtime.

"Qingyou, Qingyou, listen to me, what exactly happened? I drank too much last night, but I remember you left first. How could Yifei have hit you? Were you drunk and remembered it wrong?"

"Remember your damn self, Wen Dagang. Are you giving me his number or not?" Meng Qingyou was directing all his resentment toward Li Yifei at that moment.

Wen Dagang gritted his teeth and said, "Okay, let me find out what’s going on first. Qingyou, don’t get mad. If he really dared to hit you, don’t worry; I absolutely will help you get back at him. None of my friends behave like that."

"Hell, you’re an asshole too, Wen Dagang. I’ll give you a day to find him for me. Whoever dares to hit me, I’m gonna cripple him!" Meng Qingyou said sinisterly.

After hanging up the phone, Meng Qingyou started calling the girl, only to find her phone was off. Meng Qingyou tried several times, each with the same result, nearly smashing his phone in frustration. Just as he was about to throw it, the phone rang, and Meng Qingyou answered it angrily, "Who is it?"

"Xiao Meng, where’s all the anger coming from?" A dignified voice came from the phone.

Meng Qingyou was stunned upon hearing it, quickly adjusted his mood, lowered his posture a bit, and said, "Ah, it’s the Secretary. I...I just got scolded by my wife a bit earlier, woke up late this morning, afraid I’ll be late for work, so I was a little upset."

The other person said, "If you’re late, you’re late for a bit. Tell your wife, I’ve approved it."

"Oh, thank you, Secretary. Sorry to bother you."

"Alright, I’m calling you for something else. Remember that thing from a few days ago? Get it sorted into a document and send it to me; I want to see it before noon."

"That document..." Meng Qingyou hesitated, his mind in chaos right now, hardly remembering anything.

"Is there a problem?"

"No, no problem, I’ll handle it right away and send it over by noon."

"Alright, try to be early. I have to report to the city leadership in the afternoon. The earlier you give it to me, the better I can review it."

Meng Qingyou quickly said, "Got it, no problem, I’ll make sure you have it soon."

"Alright, go ahead now." The other person finished and hung up the phone. As an ambitious official, Meng Qingyou wouldn’t dare defy the leader’s wishes; he rushed to the bathroom to wash his face, forcing himself to calm down and recall what the leader meant.

He did remember the matter, but just as he was about to start organizing it into a document, his phone rang again. Meng Qingyou glanced at it and found it a bit headache-inducing; the caller was his wife, the woman he was legally married to. Meng Qingyou really felt no affection for her. This woman was domineering, ugly, boorish, yet she thought well of herself. She was shrewd and extremely troublesome.

Relying on her father, who was at a bureau chief-level in charge, she acted very arrogantly. Her father could be greedy, too. All the children in the family ran businesses, hanging onto the bureau, each making a considerable sum. When Meng Qingyou married her, he was targeting her father’s status. Unfortunately, not long after they married, her father retired, moved to the People’s Congress as a deputy director. That was bearable, as he still had some connections. Unfortunately, after being deputy director for two years, her father had a stroke and has been in the hospital since, struggling even to walk now. Because of this, though he can still offer minor assistance, it’s not significant.

Of course, that’s Meng Qingyou’s opinion; in reality, he got to hold a powerful director’s role at a young age largely thanks to his father-in-law.

However, towards his wife, Meng Qingyou grew increasingly annoyed. This woman had strong desires; she initially took a liking to him because Meng Qingyou was energetic, her type, and physically strong, he managed to fulfill her needs several times a night in their younger days.

Yet after marrying, the discord between them grew. Meng Qingyou excused it as work pressure, while his wife sought what she couldn’t have, which led to Meng Qingyou knowing she had a ’Pretty Boy’ outside. He tacitly accepted this, as facing that plump woman repulsed him. After having been with so many women, he couldn’t stomach that old fat meat anymore.

But at home, Meng Qingyou still had to grovel. He hadn’t reached the point where he could ignore his wife and father-in-law. Perhaps after he becomes a full director, he might be able to, but for now, he still had to endure.

Meng Qingyou reluctantly picked up the phone, weakly said hello, and then heard a voice like a broken gong berating him over the line, "Meng Qingyou, where the hell have you been? Not answering the phone all night!"

"It’s my wife!" Meng Qingyou still sounded weak.

"Screw you! I asked where the hell you were last night. Tell me, quickly!"

"Cough cough, wasn’t it a reunion with a few male classmates last night? Everyone got carried away and drank too much. Only then did the leader’s call wake me up!" Meng Qingyou raised his voice slightly, making himself sound as if he’d just woken up and was a bit clearer-headed.

Meng Qingyou’s wife spat and said, "With those lousy classmates of yours, what’s worth reuniting for? You’re already a director, pay attention! My dad said, with hard work and time, getting to deputy director isn’t hard. You might even become a deputy director!"

"Ah, our dad is the best!"

"Go to hell! If the old man didn’t care about me, who knows who you are? I’m telling you, get up right now! There’s a parent-teacher conference this afternoon. I’m going to the beauty salon, so you go to the conference."

"I... I’ve got stuff today! The secretary just told me to organize some files, and I might have to accompany him later this afternoon."

"Damn it, Meng Qingyou, you have time to drink but not to attend your child’s parent-teacher meeting? How can you say such a thing?" Meng Qingyou’s wife cursed immediately, as she was doing her nails at the nail salon. Her fingers, thick like radishes, had tiny nails painted in colorful shades, adorned with fake diamonds.

"Alright, I’ll go. I’ll take the afternoon off and try my best!" Meng Qingyou hesitated, recalling that when they first met, she seemed fairly cultured, but after marriage, she revealed her true nature. Every sentence was foul-mouthed, showing disrespect to his parents and relatives. She even verbally attacked his mother directly, leading to a rift between them, caught in the middle, feeling very uncomfortable!

"Alright, get lost then, I’m done talking." Meng Qingyou’s wife said as she hung up.

Meng Qingyou held the phone, blinking, thinking about visiting that female student. These young girls were easy to coax; just give them some gifts, sweet-talk them a bit, and they’d come around. Thinking about his wife’s repulsive physique only intensified his craving for the youthful allure of these vibrant young girls.

Moreover, this girl hadn’t had enough, she was quite wild in bed, and he was somewhat reluctant to let go.

But first, he needed to finish what he was doing, or getting reprimanded by the leader wouldn’t be good either. With this thought, Meng Qingyou headed to the bathroom. Looking in the mirror, he saw the bruises on his face, and nearly punched the mirror in rage. 𝙧𝙚𝙚𝔀𝒆𝓫𝓷𝙤𝓿𝒆𝙡.𝒄𝙤𝓶

"Damn it!" Meng Qingyou cursed out loud, not expecting to be beaten like this, "Li Yifei, just you wait! If I don’t get you out of Mile City, I’m as good as your father!"

After venting his anger, Meng Qingyou carefully used the girl’s makeup to cover up, trying to hide the bruises. Unfortunately, they were too heavy to conceal.

The usually suave Director Meng looked very shabby today, not only sporting two large black eye bags on his face but also a bruise on one side of his cheek. When he arrived at the office, his leader noticed and asked about it. Meng Qingyou had no choice but to say he went out for a meal last night, saw a fight and tried to mediate, and got hit during the chaos.

The excuse was somewhat clumsy, but the leader did not expose it, waving him off.

Meanwhile, over at Wen Dagang’s side, after Meng Qingyou ended the call, Wen quickly called Li Yifei, disregarding whether Li Yifei was awake. After a while, finally, a woman’s voice answered — a pleasant voice — asking him if he was looking for her husband. Wen Dagang thought Li Yifei didn’t seem like much, but his wife’s voice was indeed nice, yet he didn’t let his mind wander and said, "Yes, I’m looking for Li Yifei, is he available?"

"Hold on, my husband is exercising. I’ll go get him." The woman said, followed by footsteps and her calling out for Li Yifei.

Li Yifei saw it was Wen Dagang’s call, took over, and said, "What’s up, Dagang?"

Wen Dagang frowned, "Old Li, tell me what happened last night. Why was Meng Qingyou acting crazy looking for you first thing in the morning and saying you hit him?"

"Hit him? No way." Li Yifei replied.

Wen Dagang immediately said, "I figured as much. We were drinking last night, he left first, so there’s no way you hit him. There might be some misunderstanding here. I’ll call him later to explain. Last night he was drinking, he may have confused things. But honestly, what a mess, trying to have a nice drink and running into this!"
