Summit Farmer-Chapter 21 - Road Construction
21: Road Construction
21: Road Construction

Flower Creek Village hadn’t been this lively in many years.
Watching one after another machine entering the village and then arriving at the barren hill contracted by Peter Brown, everyone would squat and watch when they had nothing to do.
“It’s really incredible what’s happening to the Brown family!”
“Of course, I never thought Peter would meet so many knowledgeable people in prison and learn so much!”
As everyone discussed the Brown family’s prosperity, they guessed at what Peter was planning to build.
By this time, Peter had already returned to the village.
Daniel Pangbourne’s subordinates were quite efficient, and by the next day, they had prepared a blueprint and sent various renovation plans to Peter.
Looking at the design on the blueprint, Peter had no comments, so he immediately called Daniel Pangbourne and asked him to organize personnel to start work.
When Peter returned to the village, the machinery had already arrived.
This time, with one hundred million at his disposal, Peter felt bolder and directly ordered the work to begin.
Seeing Peter’s arrival, the construction team’s leader Denzel Evans hurriedly jogged over, pulled out a cigarette, and handed it to Peter, saying, “Mr.
Brown, we’ve started construction, and we guarantee we’ll complete the task!”
Peter took the cigarette and puffed, saying, “Quality is the most important thing.”
“That’s true, the only problem with your village is that the roads are a bit difficult to navigate.
Otherwise, it would be a great place to relax.”
Sitting on a large rock and looking at the bad road, Peter asked, “Approximately how much would it cost to fix this road?”
Denzel said, “It depends on how you plan to repair it.
How wide, how thick, and whether you want to use cement or asphalt concrete.”
Peter said, “You just tell me.”
“Mr.
Brown, generally speaking, the price of asphalt concrete is between 900 and 1200 per cubic meter, while cement concrete is around 300 per cubic meter.
However, asphalt surfaces are much thinner, usually between 4 and 6CM, while cement concrete is over 20CM.
So, it’s not easy to say which one is cheaper.
In general, cement concrete surfaces are recommended for rural roads because they have a longer lifespan and lower overall investment.”
Peter said, “Our road is just over three meters wide.
If we want to widen it enough for two cars to pass simultaneously, how wide should it be?”
Denzel Evans said, “This is a three-lane road, so about seven meters should be enough.”
Seeing that Peter intended to repair the road, Denzel began to see an opportunity and smiled at Peter, saying, “Mr.
Brown, from Flower Creek to the main county road, it’s only about ten kilometers.
I’ve looked at the terrain along the way, and it’s pretty flat and easy to expand.
Roughly speaking, the construction cost is at most 500,000 per kilometer, and this is based on fixing it to an eight-meter width.
To fix this road, I estimate it would cost around six million dollars.”
“Only six million dollars!”
Peter muttered to himself.
Upon hearing this, Denzel nearly fell over, thinking that Peter, a farmer, had to be loaded to say “only” six million dollars.
Since Peter had obtained one hundred million this time, he felt a bit uneasy about the current road, and now he had thought of actually fixing it.
Of course, Peter also needed to give this more thought.
Denzel continued, “Mr.
Brown, actually the county also has construction funds.
If we can get support from the county, the various costs might be lower.
Oh right, you’re friends with Mr.
Pangbourne, so if he says something about the materials needed, there might be a discount there.
If all goes well, I think we could finish the construction for five million dollars.”
“Thank you.”
Peter nodded slightly.
When Denzel mentioned the support from the county, Peter thought of Reuben Taylor.
He had read in books that some leaders were particularly concerned about political achievements.
Would his road repair be considered one of them?
Interestingly, just as he was thinking about this, he saw several SUVs approaching from the road in the distance.
Standing there and watching for a while, the lead vehicle suddenly stopped in front of Peter.
“Peter!”
Reuben jumped out of the car.
Seeing Reuben, Peter happily said, “Reuben, what brings you here?”
“Man, you saved my dad and didn’t even let us say thank you before you left.
My dad just got better, and he came to find you to thank you in person.”
“Are you Peter Brown?”
Peter saw the man he had saved, Reuben’s father, who now looked full of energy, getting out of the car and walking towards him with big strides.
“Uncle Taylor, hello.”
“Good, that’s the right way to address each other.
I’ve heard about your relationship with Reuben.
I’m very happy that Reuben has a friend like you.
I came here specifically to thank you.”
Reuben’s father was genuinely cheerful.
The car accident was a terrifying experience for him.
If he hadn’t recovered so quickly, his career path would have been cut short.
Of course, if he hadn’t been saved, he would have died, and all would have been in vain.
However, nobody expected Peter to save him with just a few silver needles, and now he felt totally refreshed.
Reuben’s father was a smart man, and he knew that Peter was a rare and elusive pro.
He had to develop a good relationship with him.
When he learned Peter was planning a major construction project in the village, he thought about coming over to see if he could help Peter.
Seeing the construction situation at Peter’s place, Reuben whispered to him, “Do you have enough money?
If not, I’ll help you get some more.”
“It’s enough.
When I went to the provincial capital, I accidentally won a gamble on a stone.
I sold it for one hundred million.”
Ah!
Reuben sighed enviously, “You’re really something, Peter.
It seems your bad luck is gone, and good fortune has arrived.”
Saying this, he frowned and said, “The scenery here is nice, but that terrible road is really a pain.”
Peter looked at Reuben’s father and said, “Uncle Taylor, I have an idea.
I plan to finance the road repair myself.
I wonder if the county can support it?”
“Are you going to finance it yourself?” Reuben Taylor’s father looked Peter up and down.
Reuben chimed in with a smile, “Dad, Peter has a fortune now.
He went to gamble on jade stones a few days ago and won a hundred million!
He’s filthy rich now!”
Reuben’s father smiled faintly and said, “Try to avoid gambling on jade stones in the future.
Well, fixing the road is a major issue for the county.
The county will discuss this matter and try to make it easier for you.
We can’t let you bear the cost alone.
The county will invest at least one million dollars to fix the road properly.”
Feeling happy, Peter said, “With this road, it will be much more convenient for us to come and go.”
