12: Returning to the Village

“As soon as Peter Brown stepped out of the hospital, he saw Julian Gibson and others waiting outside.

“We didn’t want to go inside.

How are things in there?” Julian asked, pulling Peter along.

“I heard that Reuben’s dad was involved in a car accident.

Is his life in any danger?” Daniel Pangbourne anxiously asked.

“Let’s leave first.

Don’t worry, everything is fine now.”

Without mentioning how he had saved Reuben’s dad, Peter replied casually.

“That’s good!”

Julian didn’t probe further, and suggested, “Let’s head back and have dinner.”

“I have been out the whole night and haven’t told my family about this.

I think I should go back, and along the way, I can also make the wine for you guys,” Peter said.

Julian, with a smile on his face, said,

“Right, you haven’t even prepared that hangover antidote yet!”

Only then did Peter remember this.

Charles Carter added, “As it may take a while to make the wine, you should consider getting a cell phone for easier communication.

Come sit with us.

We will arrange everything and send you back to the village afterward.”

So they took Peter to Charles’s place.

Upon arrival, Peter saw the medicinal herbs had been bought and started preparing the hangover antidote.

At this point, Charles pointed at one of his subordinates and said, “Drink this bottle of wine, and I’ll pay you five thousand.”

With a laughing tone, Daniel commented, “Isn’t it better to find someone who can hold their liquor?”

“His tolerance is just one bottle.

It’s perfect for testing the antidote.” Charles explained.

The young man was delighted and exclaimed, “Sir, will I really get five thousand dollars just drinking this?”

“Drink it and it’s yours.”

“Roger that.”

The young man began to drink.

After finishing a bottle, Peter noticed the young man was clearly a little dizzy.

“Drink this hangover soup.” Peter mixed the antidote in some warm water and handed it to the young man.

Knowing it was a hangover remedy, the young man took it and drank it in one gulp.

After a while, the young man was astonished, “It really works!

I don’t feel dizzy anymore, and I feel comfortable all over.”

“Is it really working?”

Daniel took another bottle of wine and drank it all himself.

Upon finishing the bottle, Daniel was visibly intoxicated and staggering.

Peter handed over the prepared hangover soup to him.

This time, Daniel was too tipsy to hold the bowl.

Thus, Peter helped him drink the soup.

True to his word, after a while, Daniel sobered up and said as he reached out for the antidote on the table, “These are mine now!”

Everyone knew at once from this scene that the hangover antidote was indeed a great thing, and they all clamored for some.

Seeing everyone behaving this way, Peter smiled and said, “We still have some time.

Why don’t you guys buy some more herbs?

I can prepare a bit for each of you.”

An hour later, when Peter had prepared the medication, Charles handed him a newly purchased cell phone, “Here, use this phone.

The SIM card is ready as well.

Let’s keep in touch.”

Everyone was eager to get the number of this new phone.

Peter did not refuse this time.

He knew his hangover antidote was something special and interpreted their actions as a way of showing gratitude.

Daniel suggested, “Take my car back.

You can’t do without a car.”

But this time Peter refused, and said, “Where I live, the roads are pretty narrow and bumpy.

Your car is too luxurious for me.”

Alex Williams suggested, “You’re right.

It’s not good for him to use your car.

Peter, take my pickup truck for the time being.

Feel free to use it and you can replace it later.”

“I really don’t need it,” Peter said.

After a while, Julian said, “If the roads in your village are bad, I can talk to your county officials about how we can help improve them.

It’s inconvenient without good roads.

We can fix the roads first and then you can get a nice car.”

With Julian’s promise, they dropped the car topic.

“The wine has been loaded on the truck.

You can go back to it.

But Peter, I don’t think you should live in the countryside anymore.

It would be more convenient for you to get things done if you lived in the city.” Daniel suggested.

“Hmm, I’ll think about that.”

Peter was still undecided about whether to live in the city or the countryside.

Julian said, “Peter, I’ll be completely honest with you.

The skills you have are not something ordinary people possess.

In the countryside, you can’t fully utilize your abilities.

I think you should move to a larger city if possible.

It would expose you to more opportunities and benefit your development.”

Knowing everyone cared about him, Peter smiled and said, “Alright, I’ll seriously consider it when I get back.”

Once the work was done, Peter went to the bank and withdrew 100,000 dollars.

Only then, did he get into the truck carrying the wine to the village.

The purpose of his trip to the county was well accomplished, which made Peter very happy as he felt the bag of money.

Not long after the truck started, Reuben called Peter. freēnovelkiss.com

As soon as Peter answered, Reuben started complaining, “Peter, why did you leave so suddenly?

Ah…

I was out of it today.

I forgot to thank you.”

“What is there to thank?

After all, we are homies.”

“Yes, we are homies!”

Recognizing the sincerity in Reuben’s words, they chatted for a while longer before hanging up.

By the time the truck reached the village, it was already night.

The arrival of the truck broke the silence of the serene mountain village, setting off a wave of barking dogs and cackling chickens.

Hearing these familiar sounds, Peter’s previously agitated heart finally calmed down.

His hometown was truly comforting!

When the truck stopped before his home, Peter’s parents came out of the house.

“Is that Peter?” Seeing Peter get out of the truck, Raven Brown looked back and forth between him and the truck in surprise.

“Dad, can you ask the villagers to help move the wine I brought back?” Peter quickly told his father about the wine.

“There’s much wine!”

Kate also came out, surprised when she saw the wine stored in ceramic jars.

Raven asked in confusion, “Peter, what is this?”

“No time to explain now.

We need to move the wine into the courtyard.

The driver needs to get back to the city.”

“Alright, I’ll find some people.”

In fact, there was no need to find anyone.

The village wasn’t that large, and the noise of the truck had attracted quite a few spectators.

Peter simply said to his mother, “I bought some meat and vegetables this time.

How about treating everyone to dinner while they’re here to help?”

Upon hearing Peter’s words, the villagers all chuckled and said, “We’re just lending a hand, no need for a treat!

Since we’re free, let’s all help Peter move the wine.”

Within moments, everyone rolled up their sleeves and began to help.

Peter said to his mother again, “Mom, could you ask a few people to help us cook for two tables?”

Although she didn’t quite understand what her son was up to, seeing he had bought a lot of meat and vegetables, Liza agreed and called a few women to help cook.
