Chapter 46: You Started This

“You’re overreacting,” he said coldly.

“No, I’m not...” I mumbled defensively.

Regardless of his slightly cold attitude, Bradon offered me his hand as he stood next to the bed. After staring at his outstretched hand and hesitating for a moment, I finally slipped my hand into his to let him help me up from the bed.

That was how I ended up sitting opposite Bradon at the long and large marble dining table. It was so late at night that I felt bad for interrupting Jenna and some of the staff’s rest because they had to set up the table for us and serve us food. To my surprise, Jenna was all smiles and she even hummed along to a tune of her own as she placed many dishes on the table. She made it feel like we were having breakfast on a sunny and bright morning with great weather rather than in the dead of night.

“Bon appetite!” she said before smiling brightly at us.

“Thank you...” I thanked her politely.

Although it was happening much later than I had hoped for, I was now having dinner with Bradon, and it was the perfect opportunity to talk to him. Despite that, my restless stomach told me that the first thing I needed before my freedom was some food and water. We both ate in silence while I constantly stole glances at Bradon. I had no idea why I was surprised by the fact that he had immaculate table manners. Everything he did was correct and by the book as if he had been trained to do so.

Mesmerized by the graceful movements of his hand and the beauty of his long fingers, I probably failed to focus on the food in front of me. I felt my insides clench as an aching need spreaded through my lower abdomen when I recalled all the things that those beautiful hands and fingers had just done to me. Before my thoughts would head much further down that direction, I blinked rapidly in my desperate attempt to clear them all away.

“Stop staring and eat your food,” Bradon spoke up coldly without looking my way.

“I wasn’t staring...” I lied before redirecting my gaze to stare at the food on my plate instead.

Bradon didn’t say anymore while I wasn’t sure what to say to him. Silence hung heavily in the air around us as I started to feel tension building up in the dining room. Bradon seemed so relaxed although he wasn’t eating much at all. I was probably the only one that felt affected by the tension between us. I chewed on my lower lip a little as I pondered how I should start a conversation with him and how I could get him to change his mind about keeping me locked up in this large and luxurious cage called his mansion. If I could be strategic about it all, then maybe I could finally bend this man to do exactly what I wanted.

“Bradon...” I called his name softly to get his attention.

Although Bradon did not say anything, his cold blue stare did shift toward my face. The way he stared at my face made me reconsider my next words very carefully. Sometimes it felt like he was frightening and wild like a beast but sometimes it felt like he was a butterfly that had landed on the back of my hand. With one wrong move, the butterfly would fly away.

“You know, it’s been so many days since I’ve been here. I’ve tried talking to you before about the possibility that you will allow me to go outside...” I said as I tried to keep my voice as meek as possible.

I even put in the effort to pick the right words to make it sound like I was absolutely fine with him taking charge of my life as if he owned me. In reality, I didn’t think that I needed his permission for me to do anything with my own life. My attempt only earned me a blank stare from Bradon, and I had to say that I wasn’t at all surprised by the outcome.

“Staying in here all day is making me feel depressed. I don’t get to see anyone while I’m here...” I continued while trying to seek some of his sympathy.

“Is there someone that you have to see?” he asked in a very business-like way.

There’s wasn’t anyone that I needed to see. In fact, as Dahlia, I probably didn’t have anyone who I wanted to see or would want to see me. As Diana, things might be a little different...

“Well...” I said as I made a pondering face.

“Do you want to meet those parents of yours?” he asked with an emotionless face.

My eyes narrowed at him and his choice of words. Of course, we both knew well enough that I didn’t want to see them so there was only one reason why he brought it up: to piss me off.

Instead of showing my displeasure, I plastered a charming smile on my lips while taking note that Bradon now wanted to play mind games with me. It wasn’t that I was new to this kind of game, I just found it boring and not so fruitful. However, I wasn’t the type to just sit back and let the other party trample over me without a good cause.

“Hmm...now that I think about it, there is someone that I feel like I absolutely would love to meet...” I said before smiling sweetly at him. 𝙛𝒓𝓮𝙚𝔀𝒆𝒃𝓷𝒐𝓿𝙚𝓵.𝙘𝒐𝒎

It was quite frankly the truth. Ever since the moment that I found out Bradon’s real identity, I had always wondered about it but never had the right moment to ask him. Since I had been confined in the mansion, I was surrounded by only his people and there was no way that they would answer my questions regarding this matter. It was also the perfect question to ask given this little game that Bradon seemed eager to play.
