Chapter 360: He Found Me

Slowly, as if he was taking care to make sure that everything would work out perfectly, his hand reached out to capture the side of my face before his lips slowly inched closer to mine.

He’s going to kiss me...

I thought that I had been brought under a binding spell as his lips approached mine. It felt like everything that I had been waiting for and dreaming of was about to come true at that very moment. It felt like if our lips met, my life would take a drastic turn for the better. For a moment everything just felt so right; however, in the very next instance it felt like everything was spiraling out of my control. My body stiffened and refused to move the way that I wanted to as if every fiber of my being was resisting what was about to come. My mind struggled to understand the feelings swirling in the depths of my heart and the way that my body was behaving. Anthony was about to kiss me, but for some strange reason that I did not understand, I didn’t desire his kiss.

"I... I..." I began saying before I realized that I was too scared to say what I truly wanted to say to him. It didn’t sound like me at all, and I had no idea why I was about to ask him to stop.

I don’t want this...

Those were the words that were about to escape my lips, before I caught a hold of myself. It was true that I was so happy to see him and I also felt very relieved to see that he was fine, but I did not yearn for something more.

"Dahlia..." I heard him call my name, but there seemed to be a disconnect between what I was hearing and what I was seeing. How can Anthony possibly call my name when his lips did not move? I stared at him as a look of confusion overwhelmed my features.

"Dahlia... Dahlia! Dahlia!"

He kept on calling my name and each time his voice sounded closer and louder than before. At first, the sound of his voice was partly obscured by the thunderous sound of the rain falling from above; however, as the voice came closer, I could hear it calling my name loudly and very clearly. Suddenly, I felt a grip on my shoulder and then someone seemed to be shaking my body. I turned away from Anthony to see what was going on.

What is going on?

I couldn’t see anything or anyone behind me except for the rain that continued to pour down from the sky. It felt like someone invisible had taken hold of me and refused to let go. When I turned to face Anthony again, I was confronted with nothing but thin air. The place where Anthony was just sitting right next to me was completely empty. Unbelievably, he was gone. I had no idea how it happened, but Anthony had disappeared into thin air.

"Dahlia! Wake up, Dahlia!"

I felt someone shaking my shoulders again, as the voice rang loudly in my mind, telling me to wake up from my slumber. My eyelids certainly felt heavy, and it took a lot of effort for me to open my eyes. The rain continued to fall, and I could hear its sound echoing all around me. The sky was dark, and the only light that illuminated the space around me were the warm orange lights from the lanterns in the park.

"What on Earth are you doing here?" a voice asked me with a mix of frustration and desperation.

As I stared at the man’s overshadowed face, I realized that I was at a total loss for words. As if it wasn’t already dramatic enough, lightning flashed in the sky followed by a loud roar of thunder. The spark of light lit up his face for a moment for me to see that Bradon was unbelievably crouching right in front of me. Although his face was so close to mine, I still struggled to believe that he was real and that he was really there.

"What are you doing here? I searched for you everywhere! Where have you been? Were you here all this time?" he asked with a tone that bordered on anger.

I felt a new wave of tears welling up in my eyes as my emotions welled up in my chest to choke me up. I didn’t know what to say and I didn’t know what to do, but before my mind could make its decision, I had already flung myself at him and pulled him into my embrace. My body moved as if it had a mind of its own, and it had decided that holding Bradon in my arms was what it wanted. I wrapped my arms around his back and buried my face into his chest as I felt the wetness of his clothes against my cheek. Just like a lost little girl that had been found after wandering all alone in the rain for so long, I found myself weeping helplessly against his chest. 𝗳𝚛𝗲𝕖𝕨𝕖𝗯𝚗𝚘𝕧𝕖𝗹.𝗰𝗼𝕞

I had no idea why I was crying, but it was clear that my emotions had gotten the better of me. I wailed loudly and then sobbed like a child that had completely lost control of her emotions. To my surprise, Bradon wrapped his arms around me and then began stroking my back as if trying his best to comfort me. Although the wind was blowing and it was still raining, I felt so warm now that he held me in his arms. Bradon’s clothes were completely soaked just like mine, but I still found it so comfortable in his embrace. His hand moved up to stroke my wet hair as he hugged me tighter to him. At that moment, it felt like words were not needed between us because it was more than enough that he was there with me. I finally realized when Bradon appeared right in front of me that perhaps all I ever truly wanted was for someone to find me here.
