Substitute Wife for the Mafia King R18-Chapter 353: Seductive Mirage
Along with a couple of other bodyguards, I headed towards Dahlia’s hospital room. It was a path that I had walked so many times that I was certain that I could arrive safely at her hospital room with my eyes closed without using much effort.
"Wait here," I instructed the rest of the guards before turning to nod my head in acknowledgment to the other guards that were already on guard in front of her hospital room.
"You’re finally here!" a sweet-sounding voice greeted me the moment that I entered the room.
I watched as a very beautiful woman dressed in a casual dress approached me. Slowly, I closed the door behind me before turning to give her my undivided attention. The bright smile that she had on her face as she tilted her face upwards to stare right into my eyes told me that she was beyond thrilled to see me. 𝓯𝓻𝒆𝙚𝒘𝓮𝙗𝓷𝒐𝓿𝙚𝒍.𝙘𝓸𝙢
"You have no idea just how long I’ve been waiting for you. I thought you would arrive here much earlier in the morning," she said before showing me a sweet smile.
"Should I be apologizing for that?" I asked, wondering how she would respond to my question.
"I don’t know. Are you someone who would apologize even if you don’t feel bad about something?" she replied with a coy smile.
Instead of insisting that she wanted to leave right away, she took a few steps back away from me to give me room to move further into the hospital room.
"Are you done packing? Or do you need some help?" I asked as I looked around the room.
"Of course, I’ve packed everything. In fact, I spent so much time last night making sure that I didn’t forget anything and that I am ready to go the moment that you come to pick me up," she replied enthusiastically as she gestured with her hands quite proudly to her packed bags.
"I see that you’re eager to leave this place," I said with a nod.
"Well, I have to say that I’ve been stuck here for way too long. Thank you for coming to pick me up," she replied.
Despite her words, she did not head for the door and neither did she pick up her packed bags. Instead, she headed towards the sofa and sat down on it before crossing her legs.
“Didn’t you want to leave right away?” I asked as I wondered what exactly she was thinking.
“What’s the rush? You’re not going to change your mind and change my discharge date to another day, will you?” She asked a little teasingly. Before I could respond, she reached out a hand and patted the empty spot on the sofa next to her.
“You should take a seat while we wait...” she said invitingly as her hands continued patting the spot where she wanted me to sit.
Her unexpected move had me feeling slightly curious. The only way to find out what she had in mind or what she was planning was to do exactly as she said. I decided to play along a little with whatever she had in mind as I sat down next to her on the sofa.
“So, what are we waiting for?” I asked.
“It’s not ‘what’, it’s ‘who’” she replied with a smile.
“Right. Then, who are we waiting for?” I corrected my question.
“Oh, just the doctor. He wanted to chat with me one last time and apparently, there’s some documents that I need to sign,” she replied smoothly before flashing me another smile.
Surprisingly, she didn’t seem like she was in a rush to leave the place, given how long and desperately she had waited for this day to come. I highly doubted that there was any documentation that needed to be dealt with. Time ticked by in silence as we sat side by side, while I waited for her to either say something or make a move.
"I guess I’ll have to go back to Desmond sooner or later now that I can leave the hospital. I’m sure that he needs my help. I think he’s got a bunch of things that he wants me to do for him," she said sadly before turning to offer me a smile.
"Aren’t you looking forward to helping him?" I asked.
"Do you want me to help Desmond out?" she said instead of replying to my question.
"Does it even matter what I want? You’re going to help him regardless of what I say," I replied emotionlessly.
Her smile only widened at my response, and I wasn’t sure what she found amusing in my words.
"Are you sure that you wouldn’t mind? I’ll be spending a lot of time with him," she said teasingly.
"Would you cancel your plans and stop working with him if I told you that I mind?" I replied to her question with one of my own. I wondered why she was saying these things and what exactly she wanted from me. By that time, I was absolutely sure that there was no one coming to the room and she just wanted to talk, although I wasn’t sure what her true purpose was.
"I’m sorry for asking such weird questions. You must think that it’s strange, but I just wanted to see if you would get jealous," she replied before letting out a soft laugh.
It looked like she was enjoying herself and our conversation. Jealousy was an emotion that I thought was very alien to me, and that was probably because to be jealous over someone, you would have to care quite a lot about that person to the point where you couldn’t bear the idea of someone else taking precedence over you in that person’s attention or affection. I had to say that it had never happened before in my life, at least, not until very recently with Dahlia. At first, I thought that the burning rage that blinded my eyes and made me act without clear logical reason was nothing but another level of anger, but now that she mentioned it, this strange and uncontrollable emotion might have the name of jealousy.
