Substitute Wife for the Mafia King R18-Chapter 35: To Catch Him
“He left already?” I asked in disbelief.
“Yes, Master Bradon left earlier this morning,” she replied with a regretful smile.
“Where did he go? Never mind that. When is he coming back?” I asked as I ran my fingers through my hair in frustration.
“I’m sorry but he did not say anything when he left,” she replied softly.
“I knew it...” I muttered under my breath.
Despite what happened last night, today turned out to be a repeat of the many days prior to it. Brandon was gone and I had no idea when he would be coming back. I cursed myself that I didn’t even get the chance to ask him for his phone number. Then again, I couldn’t quite imagine myself asking for it when he was grinding his cock against me on the bed.
This is a disaster...
“Tell him that I’m not going to sleep tonight until he comes back!” I declared loudly.
“I will do that, My Lady,” Jenna said before smiling at me.
I slumped down onto one of the chairs at the dining table although I had absolutely no appetite for breakfast. While drumming my fingers against the hard and cold marble surface of the dining table, I wondered what I should or could do to change his mind.
“What would you like for breakfast, My Lady? I can ask the cook to make you anything that you fancy,” she offered with a warm smile.
“Jenna, how can you change someone’s mind when it’s already made up?” I asked as I stared intensely at her.
“Excuse me...but...umm...I’m not sure if I understand what you mean...” she replied hesitantly with a confused look on her face.
“Let’s say that you’re married to this man who is kind of difficult and hard to talk to and for some reason, he won’t allow you to leave the house. What would you do?” I asked.
“Umm...” she muttered as her eyes darted from side to side.
“Let’s also say that he’s also a tyrant or sorts who doesn’t seem to have a normal line of logic and also may tend to act violently on impulse. What would you do?” I asked before smiling sweetly her way.
“I...will go fetch you breakfast, My Lady,” Jenna replied before bowing respectfully.
I watched as she quickly left the dining room before a small chuckle left my lips. I doubted that anyone could help me crack this one. When Jenna returned with my meal, my mind was already too busy plotting out some plans to deal with Bradon.
Now all I have to do is wait until he returns home tonight...
...
**That evening**
“It’s raining...” I muttered to myself as I stared out at the streams of rain that poured down from the darkened sky.
“My Lady, you should go ahead and have dinner first,” Jenna suggested in a weak voice.
“No. I’m going to wait here until my husband gets home,” I replied firmly.
I heard Jenna let out a sigh from behind me, but I didn’t pay her much attention. My eyes were focused ahead on the driveway in front of the mansion. I was determined to catch Bradon when he came home no matter what.
“Should I bring you a chair?” Jenna suggested.
“I’m fine...” I replied.
Her suggestion made sense given the fact that I had been waiting for almost an hour while standing up and pacing around. I had no idea what Bradon was up to or why he was taking so long to come home. I wondered just how late he was going to come home before it occurred to me that he might be doing all this to avoid me. I shook my head to clear that annoying thought out of my mind.
Why would he have to avoid me when I should be the one avoiding him?
When a maid brought a chair for me and placed it behind my legs, I let myself flop down on it to rest my tired legs. My stomach growled loudly to my utter embarrassment, but I wouldn’t let that shake my resolve. Somehow, I felt like if I moved away from the door even for a second, I might miss my chance to see Bradon.
“My Lady, maybe you should have dinner first. It’s already quite late,” Jenna suggested again with clear worry in her tone.
“No...I’m fine. I’ll wait here...” I replied softly while I continued staring at the empty driveway.
...
**Bradon’s point of view**
Observing the execution of people is probably the most boring part of my job. Not only does it mean that I have to sit here in this dark space underground located quite far from the city, but it also takes up the precious time that I could have spent managing the various casinos and businesses that I’m in charge of.
Getting rid of troublesome and inconvenient people who stood in the way of the Vulkan family was one of the standard chores expected of someone holding my position. This boring chore had been passed down from my predecessors to me along with other responsibilities. I glanced down at the list of names of people who were due to be erased for the day without any care. The sooner the executioners get this over and done with, the better. Although I wished that someone else could take over in my place, overseeing this myself was the surest way to ensure that everything goes according to plan.
Anyone that threatens the standing or the income sources of the Vulkan family will end up on the list for termination. In the outside world, this means that the person will disappear without a trace or will be declared dead from an accident or sometimes natural causes. Regardless of the method chosen, the person would quietly make their way to their next life without much of a fuss from the media. I’ve seen it all, politicians, actresses, prostitutes, secretaries, and even some nobles.
“You may start...” I ordered passionlessly.
Zain’s company would have been a big help, but I had to leave him behind at the mansion to watch over Dahlia. Once again, I found my thoughts wandering back to her.
