Chapter 349: Bearer of Good News

Usually, Bradon would simply smile before shaking his head to express his regret slightly before handing me something to compensate for the fact that he couldn’t let me out of the hospital room. It could be a new game that he wanted to teach me how to play. It could be a deck of cards where he would play a few tricks to entertain me. It might be sweets and desserts that he thought that I might enjoy. I would be lying if I said that his small gestures of kindness didn’t help brighten my day; however, as days passed by, even the newest of games began to lose their allure.

"Yes, I have very good news for you," Bradon said before breaking out into a wide smile.

"Really?" I asked as my eyes widened and my hands flew to cover my mouth.

He’s not just saying this to tease me, right?

Bradon only continued smiling before he nodded his head a few times to confirm that his words were indeed true. I couldn’t believe that I was about to regain my freedom again. Whatever was happening outside must have been taken care of already, and I was safe to roam around freely in the world once more.

"Can I, like, go out right now?" I asked as I quickly swung my legs off the bed.

"Not so fast," Bradon said with a cheerful twinkle in his eyes as he rested his hands on my shoulders to keep me seated on the bed.

"Why? Can’t I leave right now?" I asked without hiding my excitement.

"I did say that I had good news, but I never said that you could leave right away," Bradon replied. I immediately pouted as I stared up into his face.

"Don’t make that face. You can’t leave right now, but you can leave in around three days," he said before showing me a relaxed smile.

"In three days," I mumbled, while thinking that three days had never felt so long before.

Before I could ask Bradon about the reason why I couldn’t leave right away, there was a knock on the door. Since Diana had just left and Bradon was with me, I wasn’t sure who was at the door to disturb us. It wasn’t like I had any medical checkup because I have been completely healthy for a while now.

"Who is it?" I asked Bradon.

"Unfortunately, I’m not the only guest that you have today," Bradon said with a sour expression on his face.

"You’re not the only one?" I asked in wonder.

As if he wanted to spare me from the short trip from my hospital bed to the door, it was Brandon who opened the door and greeted my guest.

"Desmond?" I said in surprise as if a ghost had just walked into my room.

"Should I take that look on your face as you’re so very happy to see me that you can’t even control your reactions?" Desmond greeted me teasingly.

I glanced over at Bradon to see that he didn’t look at all surprised at Desmond’s appearance. That was when I realized that this meeting might have been arranged beforehand.

"It’s good to see you. You haven’t been by lately, so I figured that the new king of this country must be very busy," I said while taking a slight jab at him.

"Did you miss me?" he asked with a teasing smile as he came to sit on the side of my bed. Desmond reached out his hand and casually stroked my hair as he smiled down at me.

"If I’m being honest, then not quite," I replied as I stared up into his face. I wasn’t exactly joking when I teased him for being busy because I was certain that his schedule must be packed with official duties, and that meant that he wouldn’t come to see me without an agenda in mind. With Bradon’s lack of surprise and resistance at his sudden appearance, I figured that Bradon was well aware of the new King’s intention as well.

"I hear that I’m now free to roam around this Earth again?" I asked.

"You’re quite right about that, but it’s going to have to wait for around 3 days. When that time comes, I’ll need you out and about with me," Desmond said before flashing me a smile that was too sweet to be natural.

In other words, he was telling me that it was time for me to get off my lazy bum and do some work for him.

"What about the election? I see that my dear father is now up and about gathering support again," I questioned.

"I wish I could put that off for longer, but I guess there is no need to wait now that we’re ready," Desmond replied as he stroked the top of my head a couple of times as if reassuring me that everything would be just fine.

"Ready? Were there special preparations that needed to be planned and arranged?" I asked curiously.

"Something like that," Desmond replied vaguely and that triggered even more of my curiosity.

That’s interesting...

I glanced over at Bradon as if I could get some kind of answer out of him, but just as expected Bradon simply looked the other way without offering any kind of insight. His reaction was enough to tell me that he knew something about it. I narrowed my eyes slightly in suspicion before deciding to wait because it seemed that the two men were so intent on keeping their mouths shut about this matter. All I really wanted to know was if Desmond was going to keep his end of the bargain that he made with me.

"When will the election be?" I asked Desmond.

"In around a month’s time. Since all parties and candidates already had a lot of time prior to my father’s passing to promote themselves, I don’t think that it would be an issue for anyone if the election is scheduled to be one month from now. In fact, I’m sure that many candidates can’t wait for the election to take place," Desmond explained while sounding quite reasonable.
