Substitute Wife for the Mafia King R18-Chapter 342: Them Together
I spent many sleepless nights gathering courage to face my sister head-on so that we could move on with our lives, even if it meant that I had to get into a very big argument with her. It was just as the saying goes: no pain, no gain. If I wanted to reach any kind of agreement with Diana or agree to disagree with her on the matter, I would have to face her head-on and make some sacrifices. Getting into a fight with my sister wasn’t going to be easy, but I knew that our bond was strong enough that something like a mere argument couldn’t break. It might take some time and effort on my side, but I was certain that I could win Diana back again, even if we were to get into a fight.
"You don’t have to worry about me. I’m going to be just fine. It’s not like I can leave this hospital anyways; I’ll just be waiting for you here until you come back," I told her before showing her a reassuring smile, while telling myself that I wasn’t exactly lying to her.
With the number of bodyguards that Bradon had put in front of my hospital room, there was no way that I was going to be able to get out of here alive against his orders.
"That doesn’t stop me from worrying. Maybe I should just turn down the invitation and Anthony or Bradon or whoever can just go there by himself," Diana said as she folded her arms defensively over her chest. I watched as she seemed to ponder which option would be best before I shook my head slowly and heaved a loud sigh to make sure that she could hear me. 𝐟𝕣𝕖𝐞𝐰𝕖𝚋𝐧𝗼𝚟𝐞𝕝.𝗰𝐨𝐦
"I think you’re overthinking things. If you’re scared that I’m going to meet Bradon while you’re gone, that shouldn’t be a problem, right? I mean, he’s going to be with you at the event anyways, so it’s not like he could meet me here while you’re gone," I said as I stared directly at her, deciding not to beat around the bush.
Diana’s eyes widened slightly, and I could tell that she was surprised at my blunt words before she smiled at me and nodded her head.
"I guess you’re right about that. Well, now that I’m back, I guess I need to get back to work," Diana said before twirling a lock of her hair with her index finger.
"That’s right, you better get back to work. I’ve had enough of attending events like these in your place, and I’m also sick of supporting that man’s selfish political career," I muttered darkly without hiding my contempt.
"This country is going to be screwed over, I don’t know how many times over if he actually wins the election," Diana said before laughing quite loudly.
Unlike Desmond who was worried about the people of the country, Diana wasn’t worried about anything at all. In fact, I wouldn’t put it beyond her to laugh everything off and even enjoy herself at the expense of the suffering of the people. Diana just felt like she would float around above it all as if nothing could ever affect her, and that was probably quite true.
"Don’t worry about me. You should just focus on getting ready for the event; this is going to be your real first public appearance since you’ve been back," I reminded her.
"You don’t need to worry about me; this is nothing but the norm for me," Diana said with a dismissive shrug of her shoulders. I smiled at her while thinking that it was quite ironic that we were both telling each other not to worry.
...
Later that evening, I was all alone inside my hospital room because Diana had gone off to attend that event. My sister was so worried about leaving me alone that she insisted on getting dressed and ready inside my hospital room. Thankfully, the room was large enough to accommodate everyone needed to assist my sister in her preparations. Diana only left after complaining non-stop about how she didn’t want to attend the event and would rather spend a quiet evening alone with me in the hospital room.
I laughed it all off while thinking that it was quite ironic that she wanted to be locked up with me when she could have the freedom to roam around outside, something that I dearly missed. After I reassured her quite a few times that she looked amazing, Diana hesitantly took her leave. At first, I felt quite tired and was glad to be left alone for a little while, but it didn’t take long for the quietness of the hospital room to make me feel slightly lonely. Initially, I thought that was all it was, but as the evening stretched on and the hours passed by, I found myself feeling strangely restless to the point where I could no longer stay seated and had to walk around aimlessly in the room.
I couldn’t stop thinking about what my sister was doing right at that moment and if the event was going well. At least, that was what I told myself that I was thinking about, but in truth, I knew that that wasn’t exactly what I was truly anxious about. Diana mentioned that she would be attending the event with Anthony; however, I doubted that the real Anthony would turn up and that could only mean that Bradon would be the one there with my sister.
I felt a very uncomfortable feeling form in the pit of my stomach as if my insides were gathering into tight knots. Although I told myself that I shouldn’t be imagining it, I couldn’t help but see scenes of Bradon together with my sister as they acted as the perfect couple that everyone expected to see. The thought only made me recall the many comments and compliments that we received, highlighting everyone’s thoughts that we looked exactly like the perfect couple when we were together. Sadly, I knew that people would be saying the exact same thing when they saw Bradon and Diana together. After all, it wasn’t like there was anyone who could tell Bradon apart from Anthony and Diana apart from me.
