Substitute Wife for the Mafia King R18-Chapter 31: The Missing Key
“I said, what is Bradon like? You know, as a person, what do you think of him?” I repeated my inquiry again.
“Umm...I’m very sorry but I cannot make any comments,” she replied in a soft mumble.
“Is that also one of the rules in this place? You can’t say anything about Bradon?” I took a wild guess while thinking that my wild guess might not be too far from the truth.
Bella just looked uncomfortable again and I immediately regretted my question. I should have known that I would be stretching my luck too much if I thought that a maid could give me a complete download of what kind of man Bradon is. It was my fault for thinking that she would know anything about him because she worked in his mansion. While going along with the tour, I thought of many things as I listened to Bella talking. No matter which paths my thoughts took, it always seemed to end up at the same destination and running into the same hard solid wall.
I let out a sigh while rolling my eyes upward when I was forced to realize that there was probably only one way out to my current pressing problem. If I wanted to regain my freedom or change my position within this mansion, then I had to talk to the man who ruled over this domain. Bradon was the root cause of all of my pressing problems.
“I want to meet him,” I stated bluntly.
“Excuse me?” she replied with a look of disbelief on her face.
“I want to meet Bradon. Actually, I don’t just want to see him, I need to see him,” I replied loud and clear.
“I...I see...” she mumbled while still looking very surprised at my sudden revelation.
“Do you know a way that I can contact him or where I can find him? Does he even come home?” I fired my questions at her in rapid succession.
“I’m sorry but I cannot answer your questions. However, I’m sure that my supervisor can,” she replied with an apologetic smile.
“Your supervisor? As in Jenna, the head of the maids?” I asked to make sure that I understood correctly.
“Yes. If you ask her, I’m sure that she can help you out,” she answered with a nod of her head.
“Great. I’ll do exactly that,” I said with renewed motivation.
...
After being told countless times that I wasn’t allowed to leave the mansion, I decided to put everyone’s words to the test. It wasn’t because I doubted their words of warning, but I had grown so desperate at that point that I was willing to try my luck.
“Where are you going, My Lady?”
My entire body froze when a familiar face greeted me with a polite smile. The man called Zain stepped out from the shadows and stood right in front of me while blocking my route of escape with his tall and muscular frame. Although I couldn’t see any weapons, I knew that Zain was armed. It wasn’t like I could have won against him in a bare fist fight anyhow.
“I want to go shopping in the city,” I replied with the first thing that came to my mind.
“If there’s something that you want, please let me know and I will arrange for it to be delivered here for you,” Zain replied calmly before showing me a polite smile.
“I don’t have anything that I want right now. I need to go and look for myself. You know, that is how shopping is supposed to work,” I replied without backing down.
“I’m afraid that won’t be possible. If you want to browse, I can send some of our staff over and they can show you a live video of what is available in store,” Zain smoothly presented a solution.
“I want to go myself,” I replied stubbornly.
“I apologize for the inconvenience, but you do not have permission to leave the mansion. If you would like to take a stroll in the garden, I can try asking Master Bradon to see if he will give his permission,” Zain stated factually.
“You can’t be serious. Why can’t I go outside? I can’t stay in here forever!” I yelled as my hands balled into fists at my side.
“You are not allowed to go outside, My Lady,” Zain repeated, and he looked willing to repeat it as many times as required.
“This is crazy! Where is Bradon anyways?” I asked as my body shook from anger.
“Master Bradon is currently not in the mansion,” Zain replied smoothly.
“Then where is he?” I demanded to know.
I hated how everyone in the mansion seemed to evade answering any questions about Bradon. Because of that, I had no idea where he was or what he was doing. He wasn’t in the mansion when I woke up in the morning and he never came back before I fell asleep at night no matter how late I tried to stay awake.
“My Lady, please calm down...”
I turned to see Jenna approaching me with a distressed look on her face and I wondered if I should start throwing things around the house so that they would start taking me seriously. 𝑓𝓇𝘦ℯ𝘸𝘦𝑏𝓃𝑜𝘷ℯ𝑙.𝑐𝑜𝓂
Calm down, Leya. You need allies more than enemies right now...
I turned and tried my best to smile beautifully at Jenna. It became painfully obvious that with Zain and his mini army of bodyguards that there was no way that I could sneak out of the mansion undetected. It also didn’t help that the man who happened to be my only key out of this place was nowhere to be found.
“Has my husband been coming home?” I asked while disliking the way the word ‘husband’ seemed to roll off my tongue.
Jenna looked extremely surprised at my first use of the word ‘husband’ to refer to Bradon. Of course, I didn’t use it out of affection, but I just wanted to remind her that he was my husband, and I had the right to know where he was.
