Substitute Wife for the Mafia King R18-Chapter 287: A Day Best Forgotten
I felt quite lazy and it was still quite early in the morning, but I had no trouble figuring out who was standing on the other side of my door.
“Good morning,” Jenna greeted me the moment that I opened the door.
“Good morning,” I replied as I wondered what she wanted so early in the morning.
“Did I wake you?” Jenna asked with a slightly worried look on her face.
“Not at all, actually, I’ve been awake for a while now, I just haven’t made my way downstairs yet,” I replied casually.
“Oh, I was afraid that I had disturbed you. Anyways, I’m here to give you this,” she said.
That was when I realized that she was holding something in her hand. I looked down as she extended what she wanted to give to me towards me.
Flowers?
More accurately, what she was about to give to me was a pot of flowers.
“Dahlia flowers...” I murmured as I took the pot of plant from her hands.
“Are these dahlia flowers?” Jenna asked curiously.
“Yes, these are dahlia flowers. Didn’t you know?” I asked in wonder because she was the one who was giving it to me.
“Oh, Master Bradon was the one who asked me to give this to you. I’m not very knowledgeable about flowers, so I didn’t know these were the dahlia flowers. I only know more of the common flowers like roses, sunflowers, tulips and such,” she replied before smiling at me.
Why would Bradon want to give me this?
I stared down at the flower pot in my hand in wonder before I felt an uncomfortable feeling creep up in my chest. These flowers surely bring back some old memories.
Is this just pure coincidence? Probably not.
“Where’s Brandon right now? Is he home?” I asked as I squeezed the flowerpot tightly in my hands.
“Actually, he also told me to tell you that he is waiting for you in the garden,” Jenna replied.
“Which part of the garden?” I asked while wondering why the garden had to be so huge.
“It’s the part that was just recently renovated. I can take you there,” she volunteered readily.
“No, you don’t have to do that. If you just tell me briefly which direction it is in, I’m sure that I can find my way,” I replied before showing her a smile.
The truth was I was in no mood for her to tag along. My hands tightened around the flowerpot that I was still holding as I felt an emotion very similar to anger seep into my chest. At first, I was so shocked that my entire body went cold; however, now it felt like my chest was burning.
How dare he give me something like this? He better not have done this intentionally.
My thoughts immediately darkened as I listened to Jenna explaining to me where Bradon was waiting for me in the garden.
“Thank you, I can find my way from here,” I told her before walking right past her.
“I’m sure that you will know when to get there, the place is going to be really easy for you to spot,” Jenna said with pure goodwill.
Had I been in a better mood, I would have turned back to offer her a smile and a polite word of thanks instead of simply walking off as fast as I could.
...
It was when I arrived at the part of the garden that Jenna had mentioned that I figured out why she said that it would be easy to spot.
Have there always been so many dahlia flowers here in this part of the garden?
An entire area of the garden seems to have been carved out and redecorated so that it could become a garden filled with dahlia flowers. The colors of blooming dahlia flowers looked so vibrant, cheerful, and so warm and welcoming at this very same time. Staring at them only made me realize the stark contrast between the mood that the garden presented to my own feelings right at that moment. I soon spotted Brandon standing close by as if he really was waiting for my arrival.
I stared down at the flowerpot that I still held in my hands only to find that it closely resembled the others in the garden. I marched my way up to Bradon and stood right in front of him before I thrusted the flowerpot towards him while my eyes glared up at his face to demand an explanation for his action. 𝙛𝓻𝒆𝓮𝒘𝙚𝙗𝒏𝙤𝙫𝓮𝒍.𝓬𝒐𝙢
“What is this?” I asked in the clipped tone.
“A pot of dahlia flowers,” he replied quite correctly.
“And what about that?” I asked as I gestured with my head to indicate the garden filled with blooming dahlia flowers.
“I had this garden redecorated and the dahlia flowers planted here for a special occasion,” Bradon replied before showing me a smile.
The fact that I thought that his smile looked so charming only made me feel even more twisted and conflicted inside.
Why is he doing all of this?
I couldn’t help but feel suspicious of his actions, also I had no idea what kind of special occasion he was talking about.
“What special occasion?” I asked as I started to frown.
“Happy birthday, Dahlia. It’s your birthday today,” Brandon said before he smiled at me again.
It’s my...birthday today?
With everything that had been going on, my birthday had conveniently slipped my mind. To be honest, my birthday had never been a day that I looked forward to even when I was still a young girl. My birthday wasn’t an important day, or even if it was, it would only be important because it was my sister’s birthday instead of my own. Although I have never really told anyone this, I dreaded the arrival of my birthday, and I was kind of relieved when I moved away from this country and there was no one there to remind me of my birthday and also no one there to celebrate it. Not surprisingly, with my mind focused on the prince’s plan, I had completely forgotten about my own birthday.
