Chapter 273: To Make Up with Me

“Where are you going?” My mother asked when I suddenly stood up.

“My room,” I replied in short before making my escape.

Did the prince do this?

I didn’t dare voice this question or my thoughts out loud while I was with my family, but now that I was alone inside the sanctuary of my bedroom, it dawned on me that it must have been the prince or someone from the Royal Family. In this country, the only family that ruled over the court and could directly influence its decisions and rulings was none other than the direct royal family members.

Had the king decided to help my father and our family out of mercy because he felt thankful for all that we had done for him as his loyal servant? It wasn’t impossible; however, something told me that that wasn’t very likely. Desmond’s handsome face and warm smile suddenly entered my mind and I was convinced that the prince had something to do with this. I had not asked him for help so I began to wonder whether my parents or even my sister had asked him for his assistance. After that, I wondered if I would be the one who would have to pay the price for his meddlesome service. Suddenly there was a loud knocking sound on my door as if someone was panicking on the other side.

“Dahlia! Dahlia! You have to come see this!” I heard Diana yelling while she continued banging on my door in her urgency.

“What is it?” I asked the moment that I opened the door without hiding my annoyance.

I had just come up to my room, and I didn’t want to take even one step outside of it.

“You have to come see this. This is about you and it’s all over the news,” Dahlia said as she grabbed my hand.

“What is going on?” I muttered as I let her drag me along the hallway behind her.

It seemed like everything was happening one after the other and it was causing my head to spin like a top.

“Dahlia, why didn’t you let us know about how hard you worked to help our family?” My mother asked with a tender look in her eyes that I wasn’t at all familiar with.

It felt like alarm bells rang off inside of my head to signal that things have just headed from bad to worse. Just when I opened my mouth to ask her about what she was talking about and what kind of misunderstanding this was, my sister urged me to pay attention to the news that was now showing on the television. She dragged me to the sofa before pushing me down on it so that I would pay attention to the screen. I could feel our parents’ eyes on me as I took a seat before Diana sat down right next to me.

It seems like the new segment covering the abrupt end of our family’s corruption and fraud scandal was very short because now another news was already being shown in its place. I gasped out loud when the camera turned to capture a familiar face.

Why is Desmond on television and what does this have to do with me?

Desmond stood in front of a building that appeared new and not fully in use. I did not recognize the building but there was a large crowd of reporters surrounding him. I watched as Desmond approached the podium to make a speech. It wasn’t the first time that I saw Desmond on television and it wasn’t uncommon for the crown prince of the kingdom to be featured in the news. Despite that, I couldn’t stop the uncomfortable fluttering feeling in my chest as I focused my attention on what the prince was about to announce.

The news reporter quickly described the event as an opening of a brand new public school building that the royal family had so graciously sponsored. It was clearly another social responsibility project that the prince had been working on.

“Why do I have to watch this?” I turned to ask Diana in a whisper.

She pressed her index finger to her lips to hush me before telling me that I should pay attention. I directed my eyes back at the screen just in time as the prince was about to start talking. I had to say that the speech that he gave was extremely impressive and clearly well prepared; however, I couldn’t see how it had anything to do with me or why my sister felt like she had to go through all that effort to drag me back in front of the television screen.

Since it was sometime during the day on the screen although it was evening in reality, I figured that this was a recording and not live television. The prince’s planned speech came to an end and I thought it was sweet, short, and quite concise. Still I couldn’t see how this was related to me. Did they expect me to congratulate the prince for completing another project?

“Here! Here, you have to listen to this. They showed a part of this in the highlights and now this is the full recording,” Diana said as she tugged on my arm to make sure that I was listening.

After the speech, naturally the reporters had questions for the prince. However, instead of the questions related to the project or the new building that he had just unveiled to the public, the report started asking questions about the prince’s personal life. Desmond smiled in front of the crowd as countless hands seemed to shoot up into the sky to get his attention.

“You mentioned that this building is yet unnamed but you have a name in mind for it already, would you mind sharing more about what you mean?” One of the reporters asked.

“I do have a name in mind, but I feel that it might be inappropriate to use the name without the permission from its rightful owner,” the prince replied before smiling a little. 𝕗𝐫𝐞𝕖𝕨𝐞𝗯𝚗𝕠𝘃𝐞𝚕.𝐜𝗼𝚖

Although I wasn’t sure what he meant, the way my heart clenched in my chest told me that it may have something to do with me.
