Chapter 147: Payback

Staying by his side seemed like the best place to be at that moment, although I hated to admit that the rule that he had set was right all along. I wanted to scream out loud that she was lying through her teeth while my frustration started taking over. I wondered why Bradon couldn’t see through her act right away.

“You must have someone out for your life if you have this many guards at an event with high security like this. It makes me worry a little about your safety. Feel free to let me know if there’s anything that either me or the Vulkan family can help you out with. It would be a pleasure to help one of my wife’s friends,” Bradon said before smiling warmly her way.

“Thank you. You are so kind...” Daphne replied softly.

“Not at all. So, tell me Miss Wanderwalt, did Diana do something to offend you or hurt you in anyway?” Bradon asked.

I turned and narrowed my eyes at him as I wondered why he was asking a question like that. Did he think that I did something wrong simply because I sneaked away from him for a moment. I hated how he just assumed that I was the one in the wrong without asking me or hearing me out first.

“Oh...no. Not at all, we were just talking,” Daphne replied with a slightly confused look on her face.

“I see. Then, why did you hit my wife?” Bradon asked bluntly.

Daphne gasped so loudly as her hand flew to cover her mouth. I could say that I might have been equally shocked at his question.

He could tell?

“Did I get it wrong? I think, her cheek is kind of redder here on this side...” Bradon said in wonder as he turned to inspect my face.

My hand automatically moved up to cup the side of my cheek where Daphne had slapped me earlier. Maybe my cheek had turned red like Bradon had observed. It didn’t hurt so much when the blow landed but my skin was definitely stinging now from the impact.

“What did she do to you? Did she hurt you?” Bradon coaxed to me as he wrapped an arm around my waist and pulled me closer to him.

I had no idea if this was all just part of his act; however, it felt like the perfect opportunity for me to play along.

“Tony...” I whimpered his name as I let my lower lip quiver visibly.

“Shhh...don’t cry. You’ll ruin your make up,” Bradon whispered to me tenderly before smiling comfortingly at me.

It felt like he was comforting a small girl and I happened to be in the position of that little girl. Surprisingly, what he was doing made me feel better in no time at all.

“No, I didn’t do anything. I didn’t slap her...” Daphne denied loudly.

“I see. Then, did you get this guy over here to do it?” Bradon asked as he turned his attention back to Daphne and her men.

“That’s...umm...” Daphne whispered as her eyes darted around in nervousness.

I could tell that Bradon wasn’t at all pleased about the situation but I wasn’t sure just what he was going to do next.

“Hey, you. Did you hit my wife?” he asked as he stood in front of one of the men.

Before the man could reply, Bradon had already raised his fist. I watched as if everything that was happening didn’t involve me because it just felt so unreal. It didn’t quite escape my mind that Bradon might end up resorting to violence, but it still shocked me all the same when he punched the bodyguard hard in the face. Daphne screamed from shock while I just kept on staring at Bradon’s hand as he shook is slightly after landing the blow.

“Ahh...I forgot to tell you to close your eyes. Please close your eyes, Diana...” he said to me before letting out a chuckle.

“What have you done?” Daphne asked with a terrified look on her face.

“Oh, did I get it wrong? He wasn’t the one who hit my wife? Then tell me, Miss Wanderwalt, who was the one who raise their hand against my wife?” he asked while sounding too casual about it all.

It was her. It was Daphne. However, I couldn’t see her admitting to what she had done to me. I couldn’t help but wonder if Bradon would punch her too if he found out that she was the one who had hurt me. It was a slightly scary feeling, but I had to admit that the thought gave me a twisted kind of thrill and amusement as well. Daphne appeared to be too stunned to reply. She probably never thought that things would turn out this way and neither did I.

“Was it you? Did you hit my wife?” Bradon asked another man as he took a few steps to close the distance between himself and the man.

Unlike the first man, he probably knew that Bradon was a clear threat and he moved to into a battle stance. I suddenly felt scared for Bradon and what might happen to him. If a fight really broke out, I was sure that he wasn’t going to escape unscathed not to mention the fact that Bradon was clearly outnumbered.

Where did all of Anthony’s bodyguards go off too at a time like this?

“Surely, you’re not dumb enough to use violence against the heir of the Vulkan family. You do know who I am, don’t you?” Bradon asked calmly as he glared at the man.

The man hesitated and that was when Bradon punched his face. It wasn’t a pleasant sight to witness, and I winced at the sound of the impact. Daphne let out another cry that ended up sounding very broken. She had started crying by that time, just as I had expected of her.

“Please stop...” she pleaded.

“Oh, excuse me, but I’m going to have to keep doing this until someone confesses to hurting my wife,” Bradon announced before showing her a chilling smile.
