Substitute Wife for the Mafia King R18-Chapter 146: Please Find Me
She closed the distance between us so rapidly that I was certain that she had already regained full and normal usage of her legs. In a flash, she was standing right in front of me, and her hand was raised.
She’s going to slap my face...
My instincts told me to dodge or lift my hand up to block the blow; however, I consciously decided against it. It was a small price to pay for all the years she had to go through without the use of her legs. I closed my eyes and braced myself for the impact. Her slap sounded much louder than it hurt.
“Are you satisfied now? If you’re done, I’m going to leave,” I said curtly.
I had no idea why she was keeping the fact that she could walk a secret from everyone. Perhaps it was an idea that she came up with to catch me off-guard. I smirked thinking that it wasn’t so bad of a plan given that it was Daphne that we were talking about.
“I’m not done with you yet,” she said with her voice dripping with malice.
I let out a loud sigh as I wondered what else she wanted from me. Daphne tapped on her phone, and short moment later, a group of around five men rushed in to join us. Although I had no idea who they were, I could sense that they were dangerous and that they didn’t mean well.
“Stop this, Daphne. You better stop this madness before you regret it,” I warned her sternly.
I wondered how long I had spent with Daphne and how long it had been since I parted ways with Bradon. He must have realized that I was no longer in the main venue by now. That is, if he hadn’t gotten too caught up on catching up with Anthony’s old teacher. For the first time, I started regretting my rash actions. Living a normal life out of touch with this society made me lower my guard and it seemed like I was about to pay a heavy price for it.
“You should have thought about that before you pushed me down the stairs!” she yelled loudly.
“I told you. I did not do it,” I asserted once again.
The door wasn’t so far away but I doubted that I could make a run for it considering the high heels that I had on. I could feel the intense stares of the men on me as alarm bells went off in my head to alert me that I was in a very precarious situation.
Maybe I should have listened when Bradon told me to always stay by his side...
I took a step back as I folded my arms in front of my chest protectively. I wished that I could reach for my phone and give Bradon a call, but I doubt that they would let me do that. Not to mention the fact that my phone was inside my clutch bag, which made it feel like it was all the way on the planet of Mars. I began feeling genuinely worried for myself and my own safety. It was a very strange feeling that reminded me well enough that I still cared about myself.
I hadn’t wandered so far from where the main event was being held. It didn’t feel impossible for Bradon to find me, but at the same time, it wouldn’t be an easy feat either. As the men slowly approached me, I began desperately wishing that Bradon would turn up and save me. My mind was filled with him and a sudden regret that I had not followed his instructions to stay by his side. I could vividly recall the stern look that he shot me when he looked over his shoulder back at me while his friend was leading him away.
Bradon, if you’re thinking about finding me and making an appearance, sometime like now would be great... 𝙧𝙚𝙚𝔀𝒆𝓫𝓷𝙤𝓿𝒆𝙡.𝒄𝙤𝓶
Suddenly, there was a ruckus from the direction where the door was. Everyone was distracted by this unexpected development, and I took the opportunity to turn and run toward the door. Almost at the same time, the door opened with a loud slam. My entire body froze when I saw Bradon standing in the doorway with a cold and emotionless mask on his face.
He’s...crazy pissed...
“Found you...” he muttered as his eyes landed on me and narrowed.
Bradon...
“Anthony...” I whispered his name as I felt a wild mix of emotions welling up in my chest.
I never thought that I could ever feel this happy to see him. I was overjoyed, relieved, and shocked at the same time at his sudden appearance. Although I was thankful that he arrived at the scene on time before anything dreadful could befall me, the way he was looking at me told me that I had a whole lot of explaining to do right after.
“Anthony...” Daphne said without hiding her surprise.
“Good evening. I see that you were with my wife,” Bradon said politely.
I glanced over at Bradon who had a very warm and welcoming smile on his face. He looked like the flawless and friendly Anthony, and nothing gave it away that he knew what went on between this woman and me in the past. It did make sense that it may have slipped his mind, or he never knew about it although there was quite a commotion about it back then. Perhaps Brandon just didn’t care about these kinds of things or maybe he just didn’t care at all about me.
“Yes, we were just talking about our days in school,” Daphne replied before she smiled brightly at him.
“It’s good that Diana managed to meet a friend of hers here. Who are these men?” Bradon asked as he gestured to the bulky men who still stood around us.
“Umm...they’re my bodyguards,” Daphne replied before trying her best to maintain her smile.
I moved close to Bradon’s side because it naturally felt safer for me to be there.
