Substitute Wife for the Mafia King R18-Chapter 117: Burning Agitation
“You’re right. We are only married in name only so it’s really not a big deal at all. A marriage certificate is nothing but a piece of obsolete paper signed for the convenience of both parties nowadays. I guess you two have plans for the evening, I should leave so you two can get on with it,” I replied before letting out a high pitch laugh.
I made sure that I was nothing but all smiles. What she said might have been wrong had she been talking about Anthony and Diana; however, she got it all right if she was talking about Bradon and me. It wouldn’t be a stretch to say that we weren’t even married in the very first place. With that in mind, it shouldn’t bother me at all who he decided to meet or spend his evenings with.
“Diana...” Bradon called my sister’s name to get my attention.
“Don’t worry about what we were talking about. We can discuss it later when it’s more convenient,” I said before showing him a smile.
When our eyes met, I smiled brightly while staring right into his blue eyes. I wanted him to know that I was willing to let this embarrassing episode slide just to make him owe me one. The next time that I catch him, I’ll make him pay for this by telling me everything I want to know about Anthony.
Although I acted calm, I honestly couldn’t wait to get out of there so that I wouldn’t need to put on an act in front of both of them. Anthony’s secretary hung her head low in apology when she saw me emerging from the room.
“I am extremely sorry. Should I call security?” she suggested while looking very nervous.
I had no idea why she was apologizing for the man that was supposed to be her boss. It wasn’t her fault that that woman turned up. Although I had no idea who she was, I had a pretty good idea of her relationship with Bradon and how she had turned up here.
“Don’t worry about it. It’s getting late, you should head home...” I told her before showing her a sweet smile.
“Umm...” she made a hesitant sound, and I could tell that she was troubled by the fact that the blonde woman was still alone in the room with Bradon.
“It’s late, we should leave. I think those two will appreciate some private time, don’t you think?” I asked before I let out a soft chuckle.
She gasped as her eyes widened to show her shock. That was when I realized that Diana might not be so understanding had she been in that situation. Then again, who would know how Diana would react in such a situation. She might just be the most understanding wife that there ever was.
...
“Let’s go home, Zain...” I said as I got into the back seat of the car.
Zain shot me a confused look through the rear view mirror. He must have expected that I would return home with Bradon or that I should have brought Bradon with me to enjoy the ride back together. Instead of that happening, I returned back to the car alone and it hadn’t been too long since I arrived at the office building either.
“Is Master Bradon not yet done with his work?” Zain asked.
“He is done with his work but he’s busy entertaining a special guest right now...” I replied with a careless shrug of my shoulders.
Zain looked even more confused than before. I have to say that I was still a little confused with what had happened. The meeting that I had with Bradon wasn’t what I had expected. Just when I thought that I might succeed in squeezing out some kind of answer from him, that woman had to turn up. For a moment, I was sure that Bradon was hesitating as if he was considering answering my question.
Just how unlucky can I be?
“Let’s head back, Zain. I feel a little tired...” I said before letting out a soft sigh.
“Yes, My Lady,” he replied.
I placed a hand against my chest as Zain started driving. The steady motion of the car as it navigated the road didn’t help to calm me down. While watching the view past by through the car’s window, I couldn’t ignore the strange restless feeling that had developed in my chest. Suddenly, I felt extremely uncomfortable and bothered.
What is wrong with me?
I asked that question to myself silently in my head as my eyes narrowed slightly. It surprised me that that woman knew about the fact that Bradon had taken the place of his younger brother. I thought that no one was supposed to know about this but apparently, she was important enough to him for him to tell her what was going on. My mood immediately darkened when I was reminded that he hardly ever told me anything. I knew that he loved to do things his way but isn’t bringing his lover to his brother’s office a little too extreme. Clearly, he did not consider just how bad it would make Anthony look and the fact that I was there just made it look worse.
Before I knew it, all I could do was curse Brandon silently in my mind. Who he chose to date, spend his evenings with, or sleep with had nothing to do with me. I should have known that well enough, but I couldn’t stop the bothersome feeling that made my chest feel hot. Despite telling myself that his business had nothing to do with me, my mood did not improve, and I couldn’t get the sight of that blonde woman out of my mind.
What are they doing right now?
“Zain...” I called his name as I tried my best to snap out of my ominous thoughts.
“Yes, My Lady?” he replied questioningly.
“Can you drive me to one of the malls?” I requested.
“Yes...Sure...” he replied while sounding slightly confused at my sudden request.
Nothing could solve my problems and lift my moods the way that retail therapy could. Since I couldn’t come to terms with or understand the uncomfortable feeling that burned without stopping in my chest, retail therapy felt like the way to go.
