Submitting to My Best Friend's Dad-Chapter 893 : Words Not Meant To Be Heard
*Leo*
I couldn’t believe Elijah had gotten so close to Bianca. He had been close enough to smell her. To touch her.
Anger boiled inside of me. Thoughts of Elijah’s face smacking the concrete taunted me. He would pay for this.
Bianca was still sitting on my lap with her head resting on my shoulder. I ran my fingers through her hair, trying to keep calm. It was taking everything inside of me not to explode right now.
“Are you all right?” Bianca asked, placing her hand on my cheek.
“Yeah.” I forced a smile. “I just have a lot on my mind right now. That’s all.”
“Like what?” She asked, curiously. “It’s not about that Elijah guy, is it? I told you it was nothing. Just some creep.”
“No. I know. It’s not that,” I replied easily. “It’s just work stuff.”
“You don’t have to run off tonight, do you?” She asked, with a tilted head.
“I’m not sure yet,” I replied, thinking only of the pain I was going to cause Elijah.
“Oh,” she sighed. “Well, I’m thirsty. I’m going to grab a glass of water from the kitchen.”
“Yeah, of course,” I kissed her temple. “I will wait here for you.”
She nodded her head and climbed off my lap. I waited a few moments until she was far enough away, out of earshot. I jumped to my feet and sprinted into the hallway. Once I was far enough away from the living room, I took my opportunity to get to the bottom of what happened tonight.
Quickly, I snatched my cell phone out of my front pants pocket and tapped on the bright screen until I had the guy on the phone who was supposed to be the head of the crew I had watching Bianca. He should not have allowed Elijah to get that close to her.
He could have killed Bianca. Or taken her. The things he could have done to her because I hadn’t been there to protect her myself. Because my own men failed to do their fucking jobs!
Although Elijah didn’t take Bianca. Why? Why did he get close to her just to walk away from her? Had he been sending a message to me? Showing me how close he can get to the people I love.
But why not take her? What was he planning? It had to be something big.
“Leo, listen,” the man started to say.
“No. You listen. Elijah could have killed Bianca tonight. You realize that, yes?” I growled as soon as I heard his voice. “You should not have let him get that close to her. Where the fuck were you?”
“I can explain,” he replied swiftly. “We were trying to keep our distance and only had one guy inside. We never even saw Elijah until he was walking out the door to leave.”
“Tell the guy you had inside that I want to talk to him later,” I demanded.
“I will,” he replied.
“Moving on to the next fuck up you made,” I growled again. “Why didn’t you call me the second you saw Elijah’s face? Why am I only hearing about it after the fact from Bianca?”
There was a moment of silence. “I don’t know.”
“Next time something like this happens, you call me immediately. Got it?” I demanded.
“Got it,” he said.
“Tell the entire crew we’re all going to have a little chat later, all right? Because you all fucking failed tonight!”
“I will.”
I hung up angrily, stuffing my cell phone back inside my pocket. I’d have to call Franky to catch him up to speed on everything that had just happened. We would need to up our search game because Elijah needed to be found immediately. And dealt with immediately. He wasn’t going to get away with this.
However, I needed to check on Bianca before I talked to Franky. I’d need to come up with some excuse to get away for a while tonight.
When I turned around, my feet halted and my heart stopped for a beat. Bianca was staring at me in shock with her hands on her hips.
Fuck.
How much had she heard?
“What the hell was that?” She demanded.
So, I would assume all of it, then. Fuck! This night just kept getting better and better.
“I’m just trying to protect you, Bianca,” I replied swiftly.
“You have people watching me?” She asked, raising her eyebrows. “Like all the time?”
“Yes,” I admitted, unwillingly.
“What the fuck, Leo?” She scoffed. “Why? How? What fucking men? Your driver being one of them, I assume?”
“I don’t know what you want me to say right now, Bianca. I’m sorry, all I’m trying to do is protect you,” I told her.
I didn’t know what else to say, to be honest. I couldn’t tell her I had a crew of men watching her because there’s a mafia boss trying to destroy me. Not to mention that mafia boss’s right-hand man had been the same man who had harassed her tonight at the club. I shook my head along with my thoughts. I didn’t see this ending well.
“I don’t understand, Leo,” she said, flailing her arms and slapping her hands down on her thighs. “Why are you shaking your head at me?”
“I’m not shaking my head at you,” I assured her calmly. “I’m shaking my head at the situation.”
“And what is the situation, Leo?” She asked, burning holes into me with her eyes. “I’ve never heard you sound so... angry, before.”
“I can’t tell you. At least, not right now,” I told her. “You just have to trust me, Bianca.”
“Trust you?” She scoffed again. “After all of my suspicions and now after what I just heard you say, how am I supposed to trust you, Leo?”
Bianca shook her head, looking more hurt than angry. She stared at me for a moment before turning to walk away.
“Bianca, wait.”
I followed her, trying to get her attention. My hand reached out to grab hers, but she swiped her hand away before I could latch on to it.
“No, Leo. I’m going to my room. Don’t follow me,” she said, sticking her hand out to stop me. “I want to be alone right now.”
“I understand, but I don’t think you should be alone right now,” I countered.
Bianca turned to face me with tears pooling in her eyes. “Maybe we shouldn’t be doing this anymore.”
I stared at her, seeing how much I was hurting her. Hearing her words, my heart felt like it was going to break. I didn’t say anything. I couldn’t say anything.
I let her go.
She walked away towards her room and I remained standing still in the hallway. She closed her door and it felt like she was closing the door on us. Fucking Elijah, I cursed to myself. He would pay for everything. I’d make sure of it myself. Elijah was mine to destroy.
I walked the far distance to my own room and slammed the door. My feet had begun to pace back and forth the length of the room, steam rolled out from within my ears. I had to do something right now. I couldn’t sit here and wait for Elijah to do something else reckless.
I went into my bathroom and splashed cold water on my face and stared into my own eyes for a moment. I loved Bianca. I couldn’t lose her. Not over all this bullshit. I’d tell her everything soon, I promised myself. She deserved to know, just not right now. I needed to take out Elijah and Micheal before I did anything else.
I needed to meet with Franky. We needed a new plan. And a fast one.
My hands grabbed a fistful of cloth, drying my face with a hand towel before I walked back out into my room. I walked over to the small metal box inside my closet and tapped on the number pad until the door popped open. Inside held a handgun, a couple stacks of hundred-dollar bills, a gold diamond necklace, and a few pieces of paper that contained important information.
I snatched the handgun and closed the door to the small safe. Once the handgun was safely attached to my person, I stormed out of my room and slammed it closed behind me.
Before I headed down the staircase, I walked towards Bianca’s room. I stood outside of her door, debating if I should knock or not to let her know I was leaving. I wasn’t exactly sure where I was going to go just yet. I figured I’d go for a drive first, clear my head a bit.
I placed the palm of my hand on her door and let my head fall past my shoulders. She probably wasn’t going to come out of her room the rest of the night, so there wouldn’t be a point in bothering her to tell her I was leaving the house. I picked my head back up and removed my hand from her door quietly. After a moment or two, I walked away.
I made my way down the staircase and towards the kitchen. After I grabbed a bottle of water from the fridge, I headed out into the garage. My fingers glided along the side of the shiny black car and hopped inside.
Just going for a drive, I had told myself. I needed to calm down and clear my head before I could think straight. Because in that moment, all I had been seeing was red. Blood. Elijah’s blood staining the concrete.
The engine roared to life and I sped out of the garage and down the driveway. Once I reached the main road, my speed continued to increase. My car was fast and I loved it. I rolled the window down and stuck my arm out, trying to focus on the feel of the wind on my skin.
As I drove, I thought about Bianca and what she had said. Her thinking that maybe we shouldn’t be doing this anymore. What did that even mean? That we shouldn’t be in a relationship anymore? We loved each other. There was no way I could go back to being single after knowing what it was like to be in a relationship with Bianca. I know I wouldn’t be able to let her go. Not that easily. I loved her too much.
She just needed to know the truth. I knew that. Once she knew everything I had been lying to her about, she would understand. I was sure of it.
Just as I had begun to calm down a bit and clear my head of the sheen of red, my phone began to buzz. I quickly picked it up and saw Franky’s name lit up on the screen. He probably just found out about what had happened tonight.
“Hello?” I answered.
“Leo, we need to meet.” He said in a dark tone.
