Submitting to My Best Friend's Dad-Chapter 879 : Unfortunate Turn of Events
*Leo*
When I woke the next morning, I felt an instant wave of happiness wash over me as I saw Bianca still sleeping. She looked so peaceful and calm while she slept. Just one of the many things I loved about her.
As quietly and carefully as I could, I climbed out of bed and headed into the bathroom. When I returned, I grabbed my cell phone that had been sitting on the table all night and carefully climbed back in bed. Bianca was still sound asleep as I checked my messages. Nothing from Franky, which was a good sign.
I called the best café in town to have breakfast delivered before Bianca woke up. As I waited, I checked my emails to make sure everything was all set for this afternoon. I had a surprise for Bianca, and I didn’t want anything to go wrong. I wanted this trip to be all about her. All about us.
About forty minutes later, I heard a knock on the door. Swiftly, I headed towards the door and greeted the delivery man. I grabbed our food and gave the young man a generous tip before closing the door. The food smelled amazing. I didn’t think I could wait until Bianca woke on her own.
So, as gently as possible, I laid next to her and caressed her cheek.
“Good morning, beautiful,” I spoke in a soft tone.
Bianca blinked her eyes open until she focused in on my face. A wide smile spread across her face as she came to.
“Good morning,” she said in her cute morning voice.
She stretched her arms out before pulling me into a hug.
“I have breakfast ready for us,” I told her eagerly.
I was more than ready to dig into that food before it turned cold.
“Awe, Leo. You didn’t have to do that,” she replied.
“I know, but I wanted to,” I assured her with a smile.
She kissed my cheek. “Thank you. You are such a thoughtful man, Leo. I’ve never had anyone do such kind and thoughtful things for me before.”
I looked at her as my face radiated nothing but love. “I know that too. I like doing these things for you, Bianca. You deserve it. All of it.”
She smiled and kissed me softly.
“Well, we better eat our breakfast because I have a surprise for you,” I told her, happily.
Her face beamed. “Another surprise? Ooh! What is it this time? Are we going bungee jumping?”
Bianca chuckled as she began listing off possibilities. I grabbed her hand as she spoke and lead her to the table.
“Do you really want me to tell you now?” I asked, grabbing ceramic plates from the kitchen cabinets.
“Yes!” she exclaimed.
“I booked us a private boat tour. We’ll be going on a smaller size yacht, and we should be able to see some whales and other sea creatures popping their heads out of the water.”
Her jaw droped to the table. “Are you serious? That sounds amazing!”
Bianca jumped up out of her seat and ran over to me. She wrapped her arms around me tightly before kissing me.
“You’re amazing.”
“I try,” I chuckled as I kissed her back.
We sat down and ate our delicious breakfast. I had ordered strawberry pancakes, sausage links, strips of bacon, scrambled eggs, scones, and a couple other breakfast pastries. I almost felt stuffed by the time we had finished.
“Should we shower together to save water?” I teased her as we left the table.
“Of course,” she giggled. “Anything to help preserve water.”
“My thoughts exactly,” I smiled as I tickled her sides.
Bianca squealed playfully as we made our way into the bathroom. Luckily, the shower was big enough to fit about 10 average sized people in it with three shower heads built into the ceiling. Unfortunately, we didn’t have time to do anything but clean ourselves. The boat was scheduled to leave at noon, and it was already ten.
While Bianca painted her face and styled her hair, I called the driver to make sure he would be outside in twenty minutes.
“We have about twenty minutes,” I called to her.
“I’ll be done by then, I promise!” she yelled back, excitedly. “I can’t believe we are going on a boat!”
I chuckled. “It’s going to be great.”
About fifteen minutes later, Bianca walked out of the bathroom looking stunning as always.
“Don’t you look beautiful,” I complimented her before pulling her into my arms.
“Thank you,” she blushed.
“Are you ready to go see some whales?”
She nodded her head as I pressed my lips to hers. “Let’s go.”
Bianca and I walked hand in hand down the hallway and into the elevator. We greeted the doorman and thanked him as he held the large glass door open for us. Our driver was waiting outside of the black car and opened the back car door for us. We climbed inside and began our journey towards the marina.
What felt like hours later, we finally arrived. Bianca and I made our way over to the docks where the small yacht was waiting for us.
“Good afternoon! You must be Leo and the lovely Bianca,” the captain greeted us with a friendly smile.
“You must be our captain,” I replied, sticking my hand out.
The captain shook my hand and tilted his hat in our direction.
“If we are lucky, we should be able to see our beautiful humpback whales and a fine collection of our large sea lions!” The captain spoke in an upbeat tone.
Bianca’s face lit up. “I hope so!”
I slid my arm around her and kissed the top of her head.
“Well, shall we, then?” The captain gestured for us to make our way onto the boat.
I had to admit, it was a beautiful boat. The interior was lined with glossy wooden accents and brown leather seating.
“This is gorgeous,” Bianca marveled.
“It really is,” I agreed easily.
The captain led us to our seats and informed us of the safety procedure before disappearing to the captain’s quarters. A few, rather short moments later, the boat began to move. Bianca leaned against me and sighed happily.
“Thank you so much for this.”
She looked at me with soft features and a twinkle of awe in her eyes.
“Anything for you,” I assured her.
Our lips met gingerly as I ran my fingers through her long blond hair. I couldn’t help but note the silkiness of her hair against my skin.
Bianca and I gazed out at the beautiful scenic view as we held each other closely. Then, suddenly, we saw a big splash off to our right. Off in the distance, we saw a group of rather large sea lions sunbathing on a huge slab of stone. A few of them were jumping into the water. It looked almost as if they were playing in the water.
“Oh, my goodness! Look!” Bianca shouted, sitting up straight.
“I see them!” I offered back in the same excited tone.
“Aren’t they so cute?” she sang as she watched them.
“Cute, yes. That is the exact word I was about to use myself,” I teased, playfully.
She swatted me gingerly and rolled her eyes. “They are cute and you know it.”
Before I could tease her any further, a giant head broke through the surface of the water.
“Babe! Do you see that?! All the way out there?” She pointed in the direction.
“It’s one of the humpback whales!” I replied quickly.
Another humpback whale broke through the surface but displayed his huge white belly to us before making a big splash. It was an incredible sight to see.
Bianca was hovering over the edge, trying to see better when I felt the inside of my jeans buzzing. I almost ignored it, but thought better of it. It could be important.
Sure enough, it was Franky’s name being lit up on the screen. Shit.
“I’ll be right back,” I told Bianca.
I kissed the top of her head before walking a few steps away from her, out of earshot.
“This better be important,” I answered, holding the phone up to my ear.
“It is,” Franky said darkly. “And you’re not going to like it.”
I sighed. “What is it?”
“We’ve been hit. We need you to get over here, now,” he spoke.
I nodded my head before speaking. “All right. I’ll head home as soon as possible. Keep me informed of anything else until I get there.”
“Got it.”
Once I hung up the phone with Franky, I made a quick call to my pilot to arrange a flight in two hours. I glanced over at Bianca who was already eyeing me suspiciously. Shit.
“I’ll be right there,” I yelled over at her.
This wasn’t going to go over well, I had thought to myself as I made my way over to the captain. I told him an emergency had arisen and we needed to turn around immediately. He understood and I felt the boat’s speed slow somewhat before he turned us around.
I took a few deep breaths before walking back over to Bianca. I had to prepare myself for the shitshow that was about to go down. She was going to be pissed and I had to come up with a good enough lie quickly.
“Why is the boat turning around?” she asked the moment she saw me.
“I asked the captain to take us back to the docks. Something came up,” I told her, bracing myself for the blow.
“Something came up?” She scoffed, crossing her arms over her chest. “What is so important that it couldn’t wait until tomorrow? Who was on the phone?”
“One of my employees,” I lied. “An issue has been brought to our attention with one of the sites and I must be present for as the official representative of the company.”
Not bad of an excuse, I thought to myself as I also felt extremely guilty for needing it in the first place.
“Right,” she nodded her head, glaring at me. “I don’t buy it.”
“There’s nothing to buy, Bianca. That’s the truth and I’m so sorry for having to cut our trip short.” I replied in a calm manner.
She sat down angrily and continued to glare at me.
“We are going to drive right over to the private airport when we get off the boat,” I told her. “I already have someone packing our stuff up and they’ll meet us before our plane leaves.”
“You’re joking, right?” Her laugh was laced with sarcasm. “I can’t even go pack my own suitcase?”
“There’s no time,” I said, simply.
“No time?” She scoffed, again. “All right, Leo, listen. Obviously, I don’t believe you. And you know, I think I’m going to need some time to myself when we get back to figure things out.”
“All right, Bianca. I understand,” I replied in a neutral voice.
I wasn’t going to fight her on it. The truth was that I was in fact lying to her. She had every right to take time to herself. As selfish or heartless as it might sound, I had other bigger things to worry about at the moment.
We had gotten hit and I wasn’t there. My love life was going to have to be put off to the side until I did damage control anyway.
The plane ride back was a bit awkward. Bianca sat as far away from me as she possibly could. Before we had gotten on the plane, I arranged for two cars to be waiting for us upon our arrival. I didn’t have time to ride back to the house with her, I had to get to the warehouse immediately. Although, with the way she had been acting, I was sure she would rather ride separately anyway.
Once we finally landed, Bianca sprinted off the plane. I followed closely behind her.
“I had separate cars arranged for us. I have to get over to the site before I can go home,” I told her.
“Which one is mine?” she asked without looking at me.
“The one off to the left,” I replied, feeling guilty.
She nodded wordlessly and started to walk towards her car. I thought about trying to at least say goodbye to her and kiss her before we parted ways, but I could tell she wasn’t in the mood. She didn’t even look back at me before climbing into the backseat of the car. She slammed her door closed.
“Right,” I mumbled to myself as I headed over to my own car.
Her car drove away once her luggage was safely inside the trunk. I watched and felt a hint of anger and annoyance bubbling up inside me.
Damage control at the warehouse first. Then, damage control at home.
Great.
