Submitting to My Best Friend's Dad-Chapter 862 : Questions Left Unanswered
*Bianca*
I watched as Leo left the kitchen. He glanced back and our eyes met for a brief moment before I looked away. Flashes of last night flickered in my mind. I knew I was being weird and distant towards him, but I wasn’t exactly sure what I was feeling. Last night had been amazing, if I had to be truly honest with myself. I liked Leo, but I couldn’t shake the feeling that I couldn’t trust him at his word.
“So, are you going to tell me what’s going on with you two?” Amara asked, staring at me with her arms crossed over her chest.
“What do you mean?” I asked, acting oblivious.
She let her head fall forwards while still staring at me. “Really?”
I laughed and shoved the rest of my scone in my mouth before Amara ate it all.
“Girl, come on. You were so quiet when he came in and you hardly looked in his direction. Something is obviously up,” she said. “Did you guys have a fight or something?”
I sighed, debating whether I should tell her the truth or not.
“All right, all right,” I caved. “So, no, we didn’t get into a fight.”
“Okay. What’s going on then?” She playfully shoved my shoulder. “You’re being so weird.”
“We had sex,” I spat out. “Last night.”
Amara’s eyes widened and her jaw dropped. “What?!”
“It’s fine. It’s not a big deal,” I said, not sure what she was thinking.
“You had sex with Leo last night?” She repeated.
“Yes,” I stated.
“How do you feel?” She asked, putting her cellphone down on the table.
Now that I told her, I felt a little embarrassed to talk about it out loud. I’m still processing everything, including my feelings. I also wasn’t sure how much I should tell her. If I should keep the part about me having a hard time trusting him to myself or not. She’d probably ask me why I felt like I couldn’t trust him and the truth was, was that I didn’t exactly have any solid proof that I couldn’t trust him. It was just a feeling at this point. I’m not sure she would understand that.
“Honestly, I’m not exactly sure,” I admitted.
“Do you like him?” She asked, wiggling her eyebrows up and down.
I couldn’t help but smile. “I mean, yes, I do.”
“How was it?” She asked, smiling. “Tell me it was mind blowing. He looks like the type of man who would have mind blowing sex.”
Amara and I both laughed. “I have to admit, it was the best sex of my life.”
“I knew it!” She exclaimed. “So, what’s the problem? Why did you give him the cold shoulder?”
“I don’t know,” I told her. “I think I just needed to process everything first.”
“That makes sense, but if you do like him, tell him! I think you guys would make such an adorable couple,” she said, putting her arm around me. “You deserve someone like Leo, especially after dealing with that monster, Matteo.”
“Yeah, you’re right,” I replied.
“I’m so happy for you, girl!” She said, squeezing me.
Amara went back to looking at her cellphone. Leo is a much better man than Matteo, but I couldn’t ignore the feeling of him being untrustworthy. I wanted to revel in the feeling of last night, but something was stopping me.
“You’ll never guess what Matteo was arrested for,” Amara scoffed.
“What?” I asked, interested.
“Being in possession of drugs and guns,” she said, rolling her eyes. “He is seriously the dumbest man alive, I swear.”
Matteo was arrested for being in possession of drugs and guns? Curious. Those were two things I had never seen him have or even be around for that matter. I supposed I never really knew what he was capable of, but how would he have obtained those things so quickly within a country he wasn’t a citizen in?
Amara kept mumbling how much of an idiot he was and all I could think about was how Leo had pulled something like that off. Especially, in such a short time. Was Leo the one who had access to guns and drugs to be able to frame him? If it had been Leo, how in the world had he gotten ahold of those things? Was he hording them away somewhere around his huge estate? Is that why I am meant to be staying to my side of the estate? He didn’t want me finding the skeletons in his closet.
Mia said Leo was a real estate mogul when I had called her and asked about him. All he had given me was some vague talk of being a captain of industries, so I had called my cousin, Mia. I needed more information about Leo that he was reluctant to tell me. I struggled to understand why he wanted to keep his personal life such a secret. Maybe now I knew why.
Leo did say he knew a cop and that was how he had been able to get him arrested in the first place. It was possible that the cop was the one who had access to drugs and guns from, well, being a cop. I shouldn’t jump to any conclusions. Although, it was hard not to when I already felt like I couldn’t trust Leo.
I shook my head. Too many thoughts were crowding my mind. Thoughts I couldn’t be sure held any real truth to them without talking to Leo, first. Would I be naive to think he’d actually tell me the truth if I asked? I guess there would only be one way to find out. As soon as, Leo got home, I’d ask him. I just had to get him alone somehow without Amara getting all weird now that she knew we’d had sex. I didn’t want her thinking I wanted to be alone with him to get him into bed, again.
Amara and I went outside for a while and sat by the pool. The air was warm, but the nights had started to get cool. Fall classes would start soon, meaning Amara only had a few days left here. I looked over at her while she had her eyes closed, soaking up the rays of the sun. I was going to miss her when she left. I debated if I should tell her the truth of what had been going on with Leo and Matteo, but I didn’t want her to worry. I didn’t want her to feel like she couldn’t go back home to Italy because of me. I knew I’d be fine, it would just be nice to talk about all of this with my best friend.
When we headed back inside, I checked the clock and realized it was getting late. Leo never really had a specific time of his arrival home, but it was usually close to evening. That is, if he didn’t have to run off on some emergency.
I decided to go upstairs and take a shower. I smelled like chlorine from being in the pool earlier and my hair felt slightly hard, like straw. While the hot water rained down on me, all I could think about was Leo’s hands running along my skin. His touch felt just as warm as the water. I remembered the way his lips felt pressing gently against my neck. My head tilted as if he were a ghost, kissing along my neck.
I struggled with these feelings. Every part of my body wanted Leo, but my mind was stopping me from falling too deep into his arms. Even if it was just me falling into his arms inside my head. My guard was up, and I had to keep that in mind later, when he’d be standing in front of me. I wasn’t going to let myself melt into a puddle the moment I stare into his captivating blue eyes. It’s why I couldn’t look at him this morning for too long. Something seemed to happen to me when I looked into his eyes. It almost felt like I couldn’t trust myself.
When I made my way back down the stairs and into the living room, Amara was sitting on the sofa, her computer in her lap.
“I’m starving!” She exclaimed.
“Ugh! Me too,” I agreed, falling into the cushion beside her.
“When is Leo getting home?” She asked, nudging me with a smile.
I rolled my eyes. “No idea. Do you want to order in?”
“Yes, please!” Amara closed her laptop and set it down beside her. “What are you in the mood for? Meat, perhaps?”
“What the hell is that supposed to mean?” I laughed, assuming the disgusting meaning.
“You know what it means,” she said, giving a knowing look.
I shook my head, rolling my eyes for the second time in two minutes. “Mhm.”
“Okay, okay. I’m sorry,” she said, giving me puppy dog eyes. “What would else would you like to put in your mouth?” 𝒇𝙧𝙚𝓮𝙬𝙚𝓫𝒏𝓸𝓿𝓮𝒍.𝓬𝙤𝓶
I laughed out loud and shoved her. “Oh my God, Amara! Stop!”
Before Amara could get another word in, we heard the door open. Shit. It’s Leo.
“No more comments, I swear,” I warned her with squinted eyes.
She pretended to zip her lips closed, lock it, and throw the invisible key behind her shoulder.
“Oh. Hey ladies. How was your day?” Leo asked, as he walked into the living room.
“Fine,” Amara and I spoke in unison.
Leo nodded his head. “All right, then. Are you hungry?”
“We decided we’d order in, if that’s all right with you,” Amara told him.
“Yeah, of course. That sounds great,” he said. “What did you decide on?”
“We actually haven’t ordered or made any type of decisions regarding food yet,” Amara smirked, glancing at me.
My eyes were wide with warning. The last thing I needed was Amara making sexual comments about Leo and I in front of him when Leo and I hadn’t even talked about last night yet.
At that moment, Amara’s phone rang.
“Oh! It’s my mom. I’ll be right back,” Amara said, walking out of the living room.
Leo and I were left alone, staring at each other.
“Will you sit down?” I asked him.
“Sure,” he replied, sitting in the same spot Amara had been sitting in a few moments ago.
“So, I saw Matteo was arrested for being in possession of guns and drugs.” I said, holding a neutral facial expression.
He didn’t look away from my gaze when he spoke. “I told you last night, I know a cop.”
“So, it was the cop who somehow framed Matteo with those things?” I asked, curious.
“Look, Bianca, I had nothing to do with what happened or how it happened. I know a lot of people, okay? This cop hates abusive men and when I explained to him the situation, he offered to help,” he replied, his expression unwavering. “There really isn’t anything more to it than that.”
“Okay,” I said, not completely believing him.
I didn’t know why I couldn’t trust what he was telling me. For all I knew, that could be one hundred percent the truth.
There was a part of me that maybe felt like the doubt I had been projecting onto Leo was actually coming from within myself. After all the lies and mistreatment from Matteo, it was possible I wasn’t allowing myself to put all of my trust into Leo.
That’s not his fault. However, the feeling remained. Something still felt off. I couldn’t explain it, but I knew there was more to it than what he was telling me.
“So, can we talk about what happened between us last night?” he asked, moving a little closer to me on the sofa.
I hesitated. Unsure of what to say because I still felt unsure of my feelings. I couldn’t deny I enjoyed having sex with him more than I ever had before in my life. I also couldn’t deny that I wanted it to happen again. But until I could dissect my feelings and the truth, I wasn’t sure what to say.
“Oh my God, my mom is relentless!” Amara’s voice broke through my thoughts and tore me away from Leo’s questioning gaze.
As I got to my feet, I noticed Leo’s head tilt to the side as he watched me. He looked at me curiously with squinted eyes and a small smile pulling on one corner of his mouth. I wondered what that was about as Amara grabbed my wrist and pulled me out of the living room before I had a chance to answer Leo.
