Chapter 42 - Kidnapping The Wrong Person

Back at the tavern, Han Yu was mid-drink when the doors suddenly burst open with a dramatic gust of wind.

"WHAT THE FU—"

Xu Qing stormed in, scanning the room like a hawk locking onto its prey.

Han Yu, still clutching his cup, looked up to see a beautiful woman staring at him like he was a golden goose ready to be plucked.

"Uh... do I owe you money?" he asked, genuinely confused.

His two companions also looked on in astonishment, wondering just what in the name of celestial bureaucracy was happening.

Brother Wei arrived a moment later, panting heavily. "Damn it, Junior Sister, at least let me get a sip before you steal my fortune!"

"Oh, shut up, Brother Wei. We both know you'll be eating my dust."

Han Yu blinked, utterly lost. "...What?"

Before he could make sense of what was happening, Xu Qing's bracelet shone brighter, confirming that her target was, in fact, him.

And in that moment, Han Yu knew—he had just been drafted into a war he had no idea existed.

"It is yet to be decided who will be the fateful one, Junior Sister," Brother Wei said as he threw a paper slip.

SHUA!

The paper slip suddenly burst into a blinding flash of light.

"ARGH! MY EYES!" Dan Hu covered his eyes, feeling like they were burning.

"It's so bright!" Even Fat Kui's small eyes had been blinded.

Han Yu, however, had managed to close his eyes just a moment before the talisman had reached them. He had done it on instinct—an improvement likely due to his interactions with the ghostly man. His reflexes had been honed purely to avoid being startled to death.

When he reopened them, a hand clamped onto his shoulder.

"Huh?" Han Yu was stunned, looking at the beautiful woman gripping him tightly.

"You're coming with me."

But to Han Yu, she looked more like a demon right now.

Her eyes were bloodshot from the bright flash. She had forced herself to keep them open—nothing was going to make her lose this opportunity.

'If the bracelet is reacting, it is definitely a talented person! she knew. This one person will be worth ten others. I'll definitely get enough merits from bringing him in!'

Brother Wei cursed inwardly. 'Dammit, she endured it?!'

Now that Xu Qing had already grabbed Han Yu, there wasn't anything he could do.

"W-Why? What?!" Han Yu couldn't comprehend what was happening before he was picked up like a helpless chick by Xu Qing.

In all this chaos, Xu Qing failed to realize that the Eight-Pointed Yearning Bracelet on her wrist had shifted slightly. If she had looked closely, she would have seen that the glowing point had moved—and it was certainly not pointing at Han Yu, but rather at the fatty next to him.

But with her eyes burning like hell and her vision blurry, there was no chance of her noticing it.

She threw Han Yu over her shoulder and summoned her spirit sword.

SHUA!

Jumping onto the sword, she flew away.

"Don't forget to deliver the pill to my residence in the sect, Brother Wei!" Xu Qing shouted as she vanished into the sky.

Han Yu's two companions watched it all happen with dumbfounded expressions.

"What in the Nine Heavenly Fucks just happened?!" Dan Hu couldn't comprehend it at all.

One moment, they had been drinking; the next, the entrance had exploded, a beautiful woman had flown in, and Han Yu had been abducted like a bag of rice.

"The wine! It's all spilled!" Fat Kui cried out, staring at the fallen bottle like a bereaved widow.

But in all of this, Brother Wei was the one feeling the most conflicted.

"She... she took the wrong person," he muttered, looking at the bracelet on his wrist.

It was still glowing and pointing directly at the crying fatty.

A few seconds later, Brother Wei's face changed.

"HAHA! Looks like fate is in my favor again!" The man was ecstatic. "Things worked out just right. Senior Brother Sun will be pleased." He grinned and walked toward Fat Kui.

Meanwhile, Han Yu was wailing in midair.

"NOOOOO! Don't kidnap me!" he cried, flailing his limbs.

"Stop moving!" Xu Qing snapped.

Internally, though, she was delighted.

'Finally! Luck is on my side! Not only did I get a talented disciple, but I'll even get the Surging River Pill for free!' She was already imagining all the merit points she would have left over.

But her fantasies were rudely interrupted by Han Yu's incessant whining.

"What do you even want with me?! I don't taste good! I eat scraps from the ground!" Han Yu wailed. "Return me! I still have things to do! I haven't even gotten the pill from Ox Hand! I need to join the Copper Cauldron Sect! I was gonna be rich!"

The more he spoke, the louder he got, and he was screaming right into Xu Qing's ears.

"Ugh, you stink of wine. Drinking so early in the morning?" She wrinkled her nose.

"Just let me go!" Han Yu tried to free himself, but in his struggling, his hand—completely by accident—ended up touching the woman's rear.

Xu Qing's entire body stiffened.

"YOU!" Her face turned red with fury, and without thinking, she smacked him on the back of his head.

Han Yu went limp instantly, flopping over her shoulder like a dead fish. A fresh bump formed on his skull.

Xu Qing's anger quickly turned into panic.

"Crap... he's not dead, is he?" She hurriedly checked his breathing. "Phew~ he's alive." She let out a breath of relief.

A moment later, she recalled what Han Yu had been shouting about earlier.

"Bah, just some drunken ramblings," she dismissed it—just like Han Yu had dismissed the Ghostly Man's stories.

Meanwhile, Han Yu, now semi-conscious, could only groan weakly.

'I just wanted to drink in peace... why does the universe hate me so much?'

The boy had no idea that he wasn't even the person Xu Qing was looking for, and now he was being taken to a sect he never intended to join.
