Chapter 35 - Fishy Success And The Mad Man's Return

Having failed at his first attempt, Han Yu was not discouraged, though his dignity had taken a hit. He soon spotted a few more fish lazily swimming near him, completely unaware of the vendetta that had just been declared against their kind.

Han Yu's eyes lit up with determination, his previous anger at the fish that had outwitted him flaring back to life.

"Not letting you go this time!" he muttered, picking up his broken spear and thrusting it into the water with renewed vigor.

SPLASH!

The water rippled violently as the spear tore through it. The swirling waves made it difficult to see what had happened, but a second later, a telltale red hue began to spread in the water.

Han Yu pulled on the spear and felt a weight resisting his pull.

"Could it be...?" He yanked the spear out with all his strength. "HAHA! I FINALLY GOT IT! SERVES YOU RIGHT, YOU FISHY BASTARDS!" Han Yu thrust the spear into the air triumphantly like a warrior returning from battle.

An unfortunate fish was skewered at the end of his weapon, its body still twitching in what could only be described as pure betrayal.

With his first success, Han Yu felt like an unstoppable force and continued his merciless assault on the aquatic world. Even if he didn't particularly need the fish, he had a personal score to settle.

SPLASH! SPLASH! SPLASH!

Over the next ten minutes, Han Yu aggressively stabbed at the water, managing to spear two more victims in his frenzy. The river had officially declared him an enemy of the state.

"I'm getting good at this!" he beamed, proud of himself for terrorizing a bunch of clueless fish.

Finally satisfied with his work, Han Yu gutted the fish, removed their innards, and drained their blood before packing them up and making his way back to town.

At the gate, he once again spotted Guard Shen standing in his usual post.

"Guard Shen!" Han Yu called out enthusiastically.

"You're back." The guard nodded before noticing something hanging from Han Yu's side. "Oh? Looks like you finally managed to catch something."

Han Yu grinned, holding up his bounty. "I sure did! Here, take one."

Guard Shen raised a brow. "I don't need it. You caught them yourself, after all."

"It's fine. I wouldn't have caught them if not for your... inspiring words." Han Yu insisted, thrusting the basket toward the man.

After a moment of hesitation, the guard picked the smallest fish. "Very well then."

"I'll see you later, Guard Shen." Han Yu waved and strode into town.

Guard Shen watched the boy walk away, sensing something different about him.

'His aura... feels stronger,' the guard thought, frowning slightly. As a warrior at the Tenth Stage of the Body Tempering Realm, he couldn't sense cultivation levels as easily as Qi Refining cultivators, but his experience told him Han Yu had improved.

Completely unaware of the guard's musings, Han Yu returned to his hideout to change out of his damp clothes. Once dry and comfortable, he headed back out into town.

'I need to pick up a few things before heading to the city tomorrow,' he thought. 'I should also check in with Dan Hu and Fat Kui.'

Before long, he arrived at their usual hangout, where his two questionable companions were busy playing dice.

"Han Yu! There you are!" Dan Hu called out upon spotting him.

"Come, come! We've got some news for you!" Fat Kui added, pulling over another stool for him.

"Oh? What kind of news?" Han Yu asked, intrigued.

Dan Hu smirked. "First, what are you willing to pay for this valuable information?"

Han Yu rolled his eyes. "Is it even worth it?"

"Of course, it's about that madman you've been looking for," Dan Hu said smugly.

Han Yu's eyes widened. "You have news?!"

"Tch! Not so easily," Dan Hu chuckled.

"Yeah, payment first," Fat Kui chimed in.

Han Yu sighed. "Fine..." He reached into his bag and pulled out the two remaining fish from his earlier catch.

Fat Kui's eyes nearly popped out of his head. "No way! Winter carp?!" He practically salivated over them. "They're already appearing? I didn't see any in the market!"

"Of course. I caught them myself," Han Yu boasted.

Dan Hu's face scrunched up. "So that's where you went. I was wondering why we hadn't seen you lately. We barely pulled two 'games' in the past two weeks!"

Han Yu chuckled. "Security's tight with the sect recruitment coming up. I don't want to get caught and thrown into jail right before heading to the city."

Even though Han Yu loved money, he knew when to hold back. With the increased security, now was not the time for their usual street scams.

Dan Hu pouted. "Come on, one last 'game' before you leave."

Han Yu hesitated before nodding. "Fine. But after I get back from the city. I need to track down Ox Hand first."

Dan Hu exchanged glances with Fat Kui before smirking. "Or do you?"

Han Yu narrowed his eyes. "What do you mean?"

Fat Kui leaned in dramatically. "The Ox Hand has returned."

Han Yu blinked. "What?! When?!"

"A few hours before sunset," Fat Kui confirmed.

"And he's already beaten up several people," Dan Hu added, shaking his head.

Han Yu groaned. "Why am I not surprised? What's he mad about this time?"

Fat Kui snorted. "Apparently, he lost all his earnings from his hunt in the city."

Han Yu raised a brow. "Lost them how?"

"Gambling, of course!" Dan Hu grinned. "He must've pissed off some big shot, lost everything, then got himself kicked out. He even took out a loan, thinking he could win it back. Now he's broke and furious."

Han Yu shook his head in amusement. "To think even Ox Hand would end up like that. No wonder he took so long in the city. Where is he now?"

"At the Hog Tail Inn," Dan Hu answered.

Fat Kui suddenly looked nervous. "But don't go looking for him now. He'll kill you."
