Stolen By My Billionaire Brother-In-Law-Chapter 85: Beginning Of Her End
"But—" The call ended abruptly, leaving Butler Chase with no better options.
He gritted his teeth, glaring at the phone in frustration. With a resigned sigh, he placed it back in his pocket and ran a hand through his hair. If not for the promise he had made to Emmerich and his loyalty to the late Madam Margaret, he would have long spilled the secret that could destroy this family completely. But here he was—trapped in a web of obligations, stuck between right and wrong. No matter what path he chose, his death was guaranteed.
With shaking hands, Chase took out a few supplements from the shelf in the storeroom. Regaining his composure, he walked out, maintaining a calm facade.
The chefs straightened up and bowed respectfully as he entered the kitchen. He passed the ingredients to them, his tone brisk as he ordered, "We have guests. You all should hurry."
He handed them a list of dishes, his sharp gaze scanning their faces as they nodded and quickly noted it down. Glancing over the table, he added firmly, "Also, make everything Miss Rivana’s favorite. It’s been a long time since she’s been home, and she’ll be staying here."
The chefs nodded again and got to work immediately. Butler Chase rolled up his sleeves, pretending to help since the number of guests required extra manpower.
He moved toward the vegetables, washing them under the tap before grabbing a knife to start slicing. His hands worked methodically, but his eyes darted around occasionally. When no one seemed to be watching him, he took a deep breath and sliced his palm.
"Argh!!" His cry of pain echoed across the kitchen, halting the movement of everyone around him. All heads turned, their faces a mix of shock and alarm.
"Oh, goodness!" One of the servants hurried forward, her eyes widening at the sight of his bleeding hand. "You should have been careful, Butler."
Chase smiled sadly, his expression apologetic. The chefs quickly gathered around, panic evident in their voices. One of them spoke up, "There are doctors outside! Let’s take him there immediately."
They all nodded in agreement, wrapping his hand tightly with a cloth to stem the bleeding. Supporting him on either side, they rushed him out of the kitchen.
Rivana turned around at the commotion, her eyes narrowing as she saw the group heading her way. Callum’s men, who were standing guard over the sample box and the doctors, stopped in their tracks and also turned around, hearing a panicked voice calling out for them.
"Doctor!" one of the chefs called out.
"Butler Chase cut his hand. Can you please look at him?" one of the women explained breathlessly, gesturing to the blood-soaked cloth wrapped around his palm.
Rivana’s gaze fell on the injured hand before moving up to Chase’s face. "There were enough chefs," she said pointedly. "Why did you take the trouble, Butler Chase?"
The butler’s smile was guilty and pained, his eyes downcast. "You loved the chicken noodle soup I made, Young Miss," he said smoothly, his voice filled with sincerity. "I wanted to cook for you again."
The doctors handed the sample box to one of Callum’s men and walked toward Butler Chase. They unwrapped the makeshift bandage, inspecting his wound carefully. "Luckily, it isn’t deep," one of them remarked, their tone brisk but professional.
For a brief moment, Chase’s expression faltered—surprise, or perhaps disappointment, flashed across his face before he quickly masked it. He had hoped to go along with the doctors and, on the way, find an opportunity to tamper with the samples. But as his eyes shifted to the men guarding the box, his hope dwindled. It was impossible; there were too many of them, and they were too alert. 𝚏𝕣𝕖𝚎𝚠𝚎𝚋𝚗𝐨𝐯𝕖𝕝.𝕔𝐨𝕞
"All done," the doctor said as she finished bandaging his wound. "Make sure you change the dressing regularly, use this ointment, and avoid getting it wet," she instructed.
Chase nodded silently, his expression unreadable. The doctor gave him a final glance before turning to leave, accompanied by her team. The men surrounded them protectively as they exited the mansion, their movements precise and filled with caution.
Butler Chase watched helplessly as they disappeared from sight, his heart sinking further with every step they took. Panic churned in his chest, but he forced himself to maintain his composure. If Rivana even got a hint of the truth about where she actually belonged, her determination would push her through every hurdle. And with Azrael by her side, it was only a matter of time before she unraveled the mystery completely. That time would become her doom—the beginning of her end.
"You should go and rest in your room, Butler Chase." Rivana’s voice pulled him out of his spiraling thoughts.
Chase turned to look at her, her expression firm but tinged with guilt as she continued, "You can make it once you get better."
Forcing out a sad smile, Butler Chase nodded. Her innocent concern made his heart ache even more. Rivana gestured to the maids, who quickly helped him out of the hall and escorted him to his room.
"That old man is the only person who cares about you in this house," Leonora remarked, her gaze fixed on the butler’s retreating figure.
Rivana agreed with a nod. Aside from Sebastian and his grandmother, Butler Chase was one of the few who had secretly supported her behind the scenes. If she had managed to endure life among these monsters, it was thanks to the quiet help of these three people.
With a sigh, Rivana pulled out her phone and dialed her assistant, Jeremy. "Come to the mansion," she said firmly. "Yes, I’ll be there soon. Please arrange for the meeting." Her gaze shifted briefly to her family before adding, "Also, ask Uncle Mathew to wait until I return. There’s something I need to discuss with him."
Jeremy acknowledged her request and ended the call. Without wasting any time, he gathered his team, instructing them to pack all the necessary documents. He hurried to contact Attorney Mathew, ensuring everything would be ready by the time Rivana arrived. Her plan for the day included reviewing old projects and major shareholder profiles.
Meanwhile, Callum’s men formed a tight perimeter around the mansion, ensuring no one could leave until the DNA results were finalized. Rivana’s eyes flicked to the guards before turning to Callum. "You should go back. There’s enough security here," she told him.
She couldn’t help but worry about Azrael. He might need Callum, and handling everything on his own would be challenging. With nothing left to do but wait, she believed it would be better for Callum to leave.
But Callum shook his head adamantly. "I was ordered to stay with you today," he stated firmly. His gaze briefly shifted to Amerie before adding, "Let’s leave after everything here is wrapped up."
Rivana nodded and watched as he gave instructions to his men. Her eyes turned to Leonora, who stood beside her, unusually quiet. It seemed as though she was hiding something big. Rivana decided to confront her later.
The commotion in the hall had settled down, and Giana wasted no time dragging her son upstairs. Amerie, on the other hand, quietly picked up her phone and started walking toward the main door.
But her way was blocked by two guards.
"I have an important appointment today!" she grumbled, her voice sharp enough to catch both Rivana’s and Callum’s attention.
"Leave me!" Amerie growled again, struggling against the guards, who stood their ground like stone statues.
"No one will step out of this house until the results are out," Rivana declared, her voice clear and commanding. Her words echoed through the hall, ensuring that even the staff understood the seriousness of her order. Callum’s men had strict instructions to enforce the lockdown.
"But if it’s really urgent, you can take my men with you," Callum offered, a smirk tugging at his lips. "They’ll make sure to follow you everywhere."
Amerie’s jaw clenched, her teeth grinding as she glared at Rivana. Her frustration was evident, but her fury only grew as her eyes shifted to Rubina standing quietly in the corner with her helper.
Fear gripped Amerie. If the truth came out, both girls would be devastated. But more than that, there was a chance that Rubina would be cast out entirely. Amerie couldn’t let that happen. She needed to find a way to stop it—no matter what it took.
