Starting With SSS-rank: I Get A New Skill Every Livestream-Chapter 67: Home date(1)
"Holy mother..." Kyle gaped at the sight of the high-end building before him.
It was early in the morning. Kyle had woken up early since he promised something to Veronica. But little did he know he would be showing his kitchen skills here....
It was located in Fortis, near the central zone, where even a small house cost over ten million lumir. This particular building was known for its tight security and the view it offered.
He hadn’t expected to end up here while following the map.
Considering Veronica’s position, he knew she was rich, but...this was beyond his expectations.
He decided to give her a call.
He didn’t want to make a mistake and embarrass himself.
However, the moment the call connected, he heard her clear voice,
{You’re at the right place. You know the code, right?}
Kyle swallowed before asking, "Should I have dressed a little better? I feel like I don’t belong here."
He was wearing a plain shirt and trousers. Yes, it was not bad but surely, to meet someone residing here...he felt as if he should have been wearing a three piece suit or something
Veronica chuckled.
{Shut up and come up. I’m waiting.}
Kyle sighed and slipped his phone back into his pocket. Forget it.
He stepped closer to the glass entrance and noticed two guards standing there. They gestured for him to the left.
Kyle nodded before he turned and saw a metal panel fixed beside the wall.
He entered the code Veronica had given him, and the glass door slid open.
Stepping into the small lobby, his eyes fell on the elevator.
He walked in, and the doors closed automatically.
The ascent began.
Based on the code, it would take him directly to the floor where she lived.
The lift finally came to a stop on the eighth floor. Kyle stepped out and glanced at himself first. Yes, he looked presentable.
Then he walked toward the large door, the only residence on the entire floor.
Ding Dong
The door opened almost instantly, revealing a familiar face on the other side.
Wearing a loose sweater and stockings, Veronica gave off a completely different vibe than usual. Her hair was tied in a loose bun, and she wore round glasses, which made her appear younger and more...approachable.
Not that there was anything wrong with her usual look. But the Commander’s usual presence always made him feel like he had to show strict respect. That look had its own charm, but this one made her seem far more at ease, almost inviting.
"Sorry...but when I’m at home, I usually stay like this...messy and disheveled."
Kyle muttered honestly, "More like cute and comfortable."
Veronica blinked, taken aback, before shooting him a glare. "Calling a grown woman cute..."
Kyle chuckled. "Are you going to ask me to leave now?"
Veronica immediately shook her head. "No, come inside."
Kyle stepped in at her invitation and was greeted by the pleasant scent of sandalwood.
The lighting wasn’t bright, but warm. The entire place felt perfectly balanced, the kind of temperature that settled comfortably against his skin.
He looked around and said, "I really misjudged you, Miss. You’re way too rich for someone to be friends with me."
Veronica sighed. "Does it matter? We live in a world where bank balance doesn’t mean much. If we’re going to die, we’re going to die."
She hummed when she noticed Kyle had gone quiet.
Turning around, she found him staring at a painting of a legendary philosopher.
He pointed at it and said, "So this is where you get it from."
Veronica raised a brow. "Get what?"
Kyle nodded seriously. "That ’we’re all going to die anyway’ speech. You’ve been practicing in front of him, haven’t you?"
Veronica snickered and shook her head. "This profession forced me to learn things earlier than I should have. Come, I’m starving."
Kyle hummed. "Well, I hope I make something you can actually eat." He had brought the ingredients, but whether his skills matched her taste...that was another matter entirely.
As they stepped into the living area, Kyle couldn’t help but sigh.
Her living space was bigger than his entire house.
His eyes drifted to the couch area. A TV, almost the size of a theater screen, was mounted on the wall across from a sofa that looked so soft it practically called out to him.
Come. Sit. Abandon all responsibilities.
Kyle swallowed and looked away.
’Don’t Kyle...stay strong.’
Further inside, a sleek black dining table stood beside a floor-to-ceiling glass wall, offering a breathtaking view of the city below.
Kyle walked closer, glancing down at the numerous vehicles.
"Wow..." he muttered. "If I lived here, I’d spend half my time just staring outside and the other half pretending I’m rich enough to afford it."
Veronica snorted. "Pretending?"
Kyle placed a hand on his chest. "Please don’t break my delusions this early."
The open kitchen sat just across from the table, but before heading there, Kyle took a moment longer to soak in the view.
Then he exhaled. "Alright...I’ll make something good."
Veronica pulled out a chair and sat down, watching him. "No pressure. Just cook your go-to meal."
Kyle gave a wry smile. "You really don’t want to know what I usually eat. I live by the motto: if it’s edible, it’s healthy. I definitely can’t serve you that."
Veronica smirked. "You’re not trying to impress me, are you?"
Kyle chuckled. "Of course I am. You’re the safety net that protects me from all sorts of problems."
Veronica’s smile faltered, just slightly. "Just because of that?"
Kyle hummed. "Yeah, that’s all."
Veronica lowered her head, saying nothing.
Kyle began taking out his ingredients, then asked, "Any allergies?"
Veronica shook her head, her tone returning to normal. "Nope. I can digest just about anything."
Kyle nodded slowly. "Good...because after hearing that, I feel a lot less guilty about experimenting."
