Starting With SSS-rank: I Get A New Skill Every Livestream-Chapter 60: Call me
After putting on a shirt, Kyle opened the door and froze for a moment, stunned by the two striking figures standing outside.
On the left was his bespectacled brother, dressed in a red wine-shaded three-piece suit. Beside him stood the familiar woman he had seen a few days ago, crying at his brother’s side. She wore a gown of the same shade as her partner.
Her beautiful hair was tied in a high bun, held neatly in place with a wooden clip, and a touch of makeup enhanced her natural features, enough to make him nod in quiet appreciation.
"You look quite beautiful, Corella."
The woman smiled faintly, her eyes curving softly. "Thank you, Kyle."
The youngest of them stepped aside, inviting them in.
Blake narrowed his eyes as he glanced around the place. It seemed his warning had worked. His usually careless brother had actually taken the time to clean the house.
"Hmm, you could use some deeper cleaning," Blake remarked, running a finger under the desk and finding a thin layer of dust.
Kyle rolled his eyes. "No one comes here for inspections, and I stay clean enough not to get sick." Folding his arms, he added, "Forget that. Tell me, why did you make Miss Corella cry so much?"
Corella looked taken aback and glanced at Blake before asking, "Are my eyes too puffy?"
Kyle shook his head. "No, but the red marks are still there. I am guessing you were just too happy to see him awake and alive?"
The girl stole another glance at the older Astortia before giving a shy smile and looking away.
Blake coughed lightly before asking, "Anyway, why didn’t you attend you classes today?"
Kyle raised a brow. "How do you know that?"
"Mom," he replied curtly, pulling out a chair for Corella. She offered a grateful smile before taking a seat.
Kyle sighed in resignation. Did she actually call his teachers to check on him regularly?
Who even controlled their children this much at this age?
"I was just too tired to move," Kyle answered. The bitterness in his tone did not go unnoticed by Blake.
The elder brother crossed his arms. "Kyle, if you don’t want us prying into your life, then do something to assure us that you can survive on your own, even if we stop monitoring you."
Kyle remained silent.
He would not call himself reckless or irresponsible, but Blake was not wrong either. What was the point of not being a spoiled brat if he could not score well in tests or earn a living?
He needed to find a way to earn soon. At the very least, it would give him the freedom he had been chasing his entire life.
"I understand," he finally said.
Blake could tell that his brother had changed recently, and that response was proof enough.
Maybe something good had come out of his accident after all.
"Where are you two going?" Kyle asked. "I mean, I can’t imagine you asking Miss Corella out on a date."
Blake shot him a glare, while Corella let out a shy giggle. "It’s a family gathering. Blake agreed to accompany me."
Kyle tilted his head. "Family gathering, huh..." Could it be something related to the aether world? After all, both of them were Nightwalkers. But of course, he could not ask that aloud.
After chatting for a while, Blake said, "Corella, would you mind waiting in the car? I’ll be there in a minute."
She gently shook her head and stood up with a soft smile.
Walking up to Kyle, she gave him a light hug and whispered, "Don’t mind his words. He is just very worried about you."
Kyle chuckled inwardly. She had already guessed what this was about.
Corella did not linger and soon left, leaving the two brothers alone. 𝓯𝙧𝙚𝒆𝙬𝙚𝒃𝙣𝙤𝒗𝓮𝓵.𝙘𝙤𝙢
Once the door closed, Blake let out a soft sigh. He slipped a hand into his pocket and pulled something out.
"Here, take this." He extended a silver card, prompting Kyle to ask,
"What’s this?"
"There is about five thousand lumir in it. That should be enough for the trip."
Kyle raised a brow. "You remembered that?" Then he shook his head. "I don’t need it. I have saved enough to cover some basic expenses."
Blake clicked his tongue, placed the card on the table, and said, "You represent the Astortia family. I can’t have you looking mediocre and buying cheap meals."
Kyle rolled his eyes, "Whatever."
Just before leaving Blake paused at the doorstep and said, "And...during the trip, if you get stuck in some sort of situation, call me." And with that, he left.
Kyle chuckled this time at how ridiculous that guy could be at times.
Blake just couldn’t be honest with his feelings and Kyle doesn’t call it out usually knowing how fruitless that conversation could go.
But, it was a fact that in his family if there was someone who doesn’t force Kyle to be an over achiever and look after him without having any expectation in return then it was him.
Taking the card in his hand, Kyle muttered, "If you continue to spend like this, how am I going to learn the importance of earning?"
....
After leaving the house, Blake returned to the car where Corella was already waiting.
"How did it go?" she asked as he fastened his seat belt.
"What?" Blake replied, glancing at her briefly.
Corella smiled faintly. "You are worried about this trip. That is why you requested his university to cancel it a month ago. Of course, you could never say that to him directly... but you care about Kyle a lot, don’t you?"
Blake shook his head, his tone dry. "You talk way too much."
Corella giggled, clearly amused. "I can tell Kyle respects you. He cares about you too, even if he doesn’t show it properly. Ah... I wish I had a sibling like that. All I ever received from my family were problems and responsibilities."
Blake turned the steering wheel, smoothly guiding the car onto the road. "You are the leading heiress of the strongest branch family of Fortis. It is only natural for you to carry that burden."
Corella let out a soft groan, slumping slightly in her seat. "When you say it like that, it sounds even heavier."
For a moment, silence settled between them, filled only by the low hum of the engine and the passing scenery outside.
Then she spoke again, her tone more careful this time.
"Blake... is it really alright for you to appear at this clan meeting? I don’t mind, of course, but you did say there is someone among them conspiring against you."
Blake’s eyes narrowed slightly, a sharp glint passing through them before he gave a small nod. "Yes, I am certain."
His fingers tapped lightly against the steering wheel as his gaze remained fixed on the road ahead.
"Hiding is the safest way to help them for now," he continued. "If I stay out of sight, they grow dormant. But the moment I show myself... they will be forced to act."
Corella turned her head, watching him closely.
"And that," Blake added, a faint smirk forming on his lips, "creates an opening I can use."
There was a quiet confidence in his voice, one that made even Corella blush slightly.
After a brief pause, he spoke again, his smirk deepening just a little.
"And besides... there is someone I need to thank at that gathering."
