Kai wasn’t alone as he moved deeper into the forest.

As soon as he got the confirmation that the Gene Trader was found, he took Atom, his loyal Sentinel. He was equipped with both rifle and sword strapped across his back.

Behind them were the rest of the Foreign Survivors... Jonas, Farrah, Ralph, Wallace, Victor, Aurora, Elena, and Marissa.

Together, they formed a formidable group. Their aim was simple... to reach the Gene Trader, spend their extra Survivor Medals, and later trigger its traps to gain more experience by killing more mutants!

Initially, they had planned to use their two armored cars to move quickly, but the dense forest routes forced them to abandon that idea.

The vehicles would be too loud, too bulky, and too easy to spot.

So they advanced on foot instead.

For some time, the forest was quiet, save for the crunch of boots and the occasional rustle of leaves.

But soon, they sensed the presence of flying enemies!

A low hum similar to Swarmers could be heard... However, it was growing louder with each passing second.

"Engines," Kai muttered.

Atom’s sensors also noticed the enemies.

It looked up as it definitely detected the approaching units.

The group then halted as they scanned the treetops...

It didn’t take that long before they saw them, they were small flying vehicles similar to those jet skis! Indeed, they were skimming through the air like those familiar vehicles!.

Each of them carried two Sentinels. One Sentinel had fused its lower body into the vehicle itself, acting as the driver, while the other rode behind with a rifle. Not plasma rifles, but standard ballistic weapons.

Victor cursed under his breath. "So they’ve upgraded again. Flying patrols now."

The riders spotted them almost immediately. 𝒻𝑟𝘦𝘦𝘸ℯ𝒷𝑛𝘰𝓋ℯ𝘭.𝘤𝘰𝘮

Six crafts broke formation and swooped down!

Twelve Sentinels in total were ready to unleash hell!

"Cover!" Kai shouted.

The group scattered and drew their revolvers!

Bang! Bang! Bang!

Gunfire erupted as the Sentinels opened fire! Soon, bullets tore through branches and soil!

At this point, only Atom dared to step forward!

Its sword still sheathed, but then... It raised its arms to shield the group.

Its advanced armor absorbed the brunt of the shots!

Thud! Thud! Thud!

Atom wasn’t fazed at all! Sparks were just flying as rounds ricocheted harmlessly off its mechanical frame!

With Atom tanking all the attention of the enemies, Kai and others made their move.

Jonas and Farrah fired back with their revolvers, aiming for the riders.

Aurora and Elena crouched low, returning fire even without much accuracy...

Since there are many of them clustered together, they should be able to hit these flying vehicles even by luck!

Everyone wanted to contribute something after all!

They knew that the experience points given by these enemy units were larger than those of the mutants!

Nonetheless, the Sentinels were fast as they moved through the air with a coordinated pattern!

They were shooting at them while moving, and it was hard for Kai’s group to get a hit!

They were at a disadvantage being on the ground!

"Ralph! Wallace!" Kai shouted...

The two men nodded. They were the only ones carrying plasma rifles...

They were rare weapons salvaged from the New Haven Shelter-45. They actually had several more Plasma Rifles, but because they do not have energy cells, they were kinda useless.

Still, they have two Plasma Rifles with energy cells...

Ralph steadied his rifle. With his Sharpshooter Talent, he was the obvious choice for this task.

Wallace, on the other hand, possessed Iron Stamina Talent that was keeping him calm... His Gene Skill, Swift Stride, allowed him to move with incredible speed, closing distances with ease!

Even without the perfect accuracy like Ralph, he could just move closer and guarantee his hit!

At this point, Victor reminded them...

"Careful! Those rifles only have six shots. Make them count."

Ralph exhaled slowly and nodded.

He tracked one of the riders moving through the trees.

Soon, his finger squeezed the trigger.

Fwoosh!

A bolt of plasma tore through the air, striking the driver Sentinel square in the chest!

Thud!

The craft immediately sizzled, and in just the blink of an eye, flames burst from its core before it spiraled out of control and crashed into the ground!

Boom!

While the driver crashed to their death, the Sentinel was thrown away!

"Ohhh! It’s called Dragoons, Kai!" Ralph shouted...

Of course, it wasn’t easy as the Sentinels fired at him! Thankfully, his stamina kept him moving... As soon as he found an opportunity, he jumped up and raised his plasma rifle before he fired at point‑blank range.

The bolt obliterated the driver’s head!

Boom!

The craft nosedived, crashing into the forest floor.

Wallace then swung his sword, smashing the second rider before it could recover.

Then, he used his revolver to destroy its already damaged head!

Bang! Bang!

"Two down!" Wallace roared.

The remaining riders regrouped as they circled higher than before!

They realized that fighting closer wouldn’t help them anymore!

Soon, bullets rained down, forcing Kai and the others to duck behind trees.

At this time, Atom had already retrieved its sword and used it to deflect the incoming fire with precise movements.

Meanwhile, Ralph steadied his aim once more. His Sharpshooting Talent allowed him to predict the rider’s path...

Then, he fired.

Fwoosh!

Another craft exploded mid‑air and its debris scattered across the forest.

Boom!

The rider Sentinel’s circuits overloaded, and soon sparks burst from its body before flames consumed it completely!

One by one, the group eliminated the Dragoons!
