Starting With SSS-rank: I Get A New Skill Every Livestream-Chapter 54: Solution
"Before we get to how you can control your magical abilities, let us first discuss whether you even want to," Aleda suddenly said something that completely bounced off his head.
Kyle leaned back in the chair and tilted his head in confusion. "Why would I want to walk around like an active Genesis volcano again?"
Aleda chuckled before explaining, "You did not ask me why I experimented with those two objects, the arrow first and then the orb."
Kyle groaned. "I genuinely believed that was your way of bullying me or something."
Aleda raised her hand to her face and giggled elegantly. "Oh, dear, why would you think I need an excuse to bully you?"
"..." Yes, the wiring in her head was definitely not quite right.
Aleda loosely crossed her arms over her stomach and continued, "Well, let us talk about the arrow first. As I expected, you did not utilise Genesis when shooting it."
Was that not obvious? Why else would he be here if he could already pull that off on his own?
Regardless, he remained silent as she continued,
"Because there was no Genesis involved, your dormant side, let us call it the Golden Limb, did not react to it. However, the moment the wound appeared, it began to heal it instantly as a reflex. Ah, you do know what a reflex action is, right?"
Kyle nodded in understanding, but the question still lingered. "When my body cannot regulate Genesis while I am not using a skill, how was that recovery possible?"
Aleda snapped her fingers. "That is what makes you different. Your Golden Limb activates on reflex. When you are not conscious of incoming danger, it becomes your safety net, a hidden muscle that moves to protect you."
"And do you know what the better version of it is? When Genesis is involved, your Golden Limb evolves from merely healing you into a protective barrier that deflects anything coming your way. Just like that scrap ball I threw at you. Just that, it was imbued with Genesis, so it sensed it coming and deflected it"
Kyle took a moment to let it sink in. He processed every piece of information she gave him and connected it with what had happened earlier.
From the arrow wound to the faint itch at the back of his head when that metal orb should have hurt far more.
Aleda did not rush him. She allowed him the time to properly register everything in his mind.
Kyle finally spoke, "You mean to say that as long as I am unaware of incoming danger, my Golden Limb will protect me?"
Aleda nodded. "Yes. And when I say unconscious, it does not mean you have to keep your eyes closed for your Golden Limb to act as a protective barrier. It does not share the same senses as you. For it, the moment you use your skills, it assumes you are conscious of your magical side, so the reflex action disappears."
"Ah..." Then it clicked.
Why had his wounds never begun to heal during battles? Why had it failed to protect him against sudden attacks?
The golden limb had simply assumed that since Kyle was using magic through God’s Eye, he could take care of himself.
But he could not.
"I am... really strange, aren’t I?" Kyle asked, to no one in particular. Even without much knowledge of this side of reality, or how bodies evolved through natural awakening, he could tell that people like him barely existed anywhere in the world.
Or maybe it was just him.
Aleda then spoke, "Now, you have two options. Stay as you are, train as you have been, and your safety net, the Golden Limb, will always protect you even when you are not using a skill."
That... actually sounded enticing.
Imagine having a protective layer always surrounding you, even while asleep, or a regenerative ability that went beyond the limits of ordinary skills. 𝓯𝙧𝓮𝓮𝒘𝓮𝙗𝙣𝒐𝒗𝒆𝓵.𝓬𝓸𝒎
Yes, it sounded almost too good to give up. But he did not rush his decision and waited for her to present the next option.
"Or... you can train to gain control over your Golden Limb, which would allow you to use it even when you are not using a skill."
As expected. The training could lead him to the very point he had originally aimed for. However, now that he understood the passive abilities of the Golden Limb, he did not immediately choose the second option.
Yes, he sought control... but at what cost?
"Can I not... develop my Golden Limb in such a way that even after gaining control over it, it still functions as a reflexive membrane?"
Aleda shook her head. "No, that will not be possible, Kyle." The answer disappointed him, but he did not let it show on his face.
She continued, "The moment you take control of your Genesis, the line between your conscious and unconscious mind disappears. So no, your body will not reflexively protect you anymore."
Kyle sighed and lowered his head. The decision was not an easy one.
He could not simply give up the control she was offering. At the pace he was moving, Kyle did not know how soon he might end up revealing to the world that the rogue Nightwalker was none other than him.
Both choices were tempting. And now, he had to choose carefully.
After a moment, Kyle spoke, "You mentioned earlier that humans at a certain level can use raw Genesis to do things my body does reflexively..." He narrowed his eyes. "Then... does that mean I would be able to do that as well?"
Aleda nodded. "Yes, but it will not be the same. No one can keep their brain constantly engaged in using Genesis to maintain a protective barrier. It would fry your mind and leave you in a vegetative state."
Then she crossed her arms and frowned.
"Hmm... wait a second."
Kyle blinked in surprise. "What is it?"
Aleda closed her eyes, as if listening to something or thinking deeply.
Then she slowly opened them and nodded. "Yeah... we can do that."
Kyle frowned. "What do you mean?"
Aleda clarified, "We are going to work on your Genesis control, and that is final. But do not worry, you will not lose your passive Golden Limb abilities either."
"...!!"
Was there really a way?!
